I agree on the ruck but if Mattaes wanted home I'd be surprised if we didn't go all in.

Are you talking KPP through trade or draft?
Whatever is available - I think St Kilda dig in if he wants to return here - and thats for either team in the state

It then escalates the capital for drafting or trading for need

Cost for 1

Plus I think we are making headway with our midfield - I would concentrate on ruck and KPP
I really hope Mattaes is on the list of players we are giving our strongest possible pitch to this year. Definitely making headway with our midfield but it is still our weakest line by a country mile. Ruck I agree with you. But mids and, much further back, another small forward are surely the next biggest issue.

I don't quite have the sense of humor this week to speculate how bad some of our pitches have been in the past.... but our recent form is pretty good. Whatever we told Dawson, Rankine, ANB, Cumming and Peatling seems to have been convincing.

Interesting to see how he fits in, or whether Fagan and Co have managed to create a Hawthorn type scenario where everyone stays for a bigger chance at success.
Might make Henry Smith an easier get...

I reckon it went something like:

"Here's more money than you're getting right now!"

Mattaes Phillipou 3+ months off with a femur stress fracture

No good for the lad. I thought this might have been his break out year.

Femur stress fracture...never heard of that. Any medical people care to comment on the rarity of this.

And I'll go now and amend my fantasy team...

The Cats always think big.

Geelong’s pursuit of Matt Rowell examined: How it could happen and is it possible?

Geelong is yet again in pursuit of a star rival midfielder, this time it being Matt Rowell.

Geelong has thrown its hat in the ring for Gold Coast superstar Matt Rowell but a move home to Victoria is far from a fait accompli for the former No. 1 overall pick.

In November this masthead reported Rowell had put contract talks with the Suns on-hold amid intense Victorian interest while assessing the club’s improvement following yet another failed finals push in 2024.

Dr. Google ;)doesn't seem to think it's a big deal, just rest and recuperation which probably means he won't be able to play until the back half of the season, unlikely to be at full fitnes this season but.

The AFL need to step in an make it harder for players to get back to their home state. A 10 team in Melbourne location makes it too easy for those located outside of Victoria to run back to Victoria. Where as everyone else has limited options. Its an unfair playing field. I would love to see a quota placed on Victorian teams, for example only 1 interstate recruits from any non vic clubs best 10 players or top 20 draft pick every 3 years. Which would mirror interstate levels of recruitment from Victoria and other clubs.

He won't go, because the AFL gave them Anderson to ensure he didn't leave...

We'd have to retrospectively give up McAsey

Just make it that teams can trade players without consent.

I might be biased but think this is crap. Hamish and Reidy were dud like for a handful of year up to 2020 but have nailed the
last 4-5 off seasons

Recruited under 23 - TT, Rachele, Soli, Nank, Taylor, Max, Curtin, Ryan, Edwards, Pedlar, Draper and Welsh
Traded - Dawson, Rankine and the 3 last year

Can’t agree we are so lowly ranked for players aged under 23
That is garbage. If this ranking is true, then we're fubared for years. I don't see it.

Which clubs have the best youngsters in the AFL?

We have ranked each of the under-23 groups, based on top-line talent but also depth, proven performance and potential.

Here’s our 18-1

14. Adelaide

Top-five draftee Sid Draper – a midfielder likened to Patrick Dangerfield and Horne-Francis for his power off the mark – joins an intriguing group of emerging Crows who will shape the Matthew Nicks era. Riley Thilthorpe, Jake Soligo, Max Michalanney and Josh Rachele headline the under-23 crew, while there is great hope for defender Daniel Curtin, whom they traded up for in the 2023 draft. Thilthorpe just needs a decent injury-free run to form a potent partnership with Darcy Fogarty in attack, but they would like to see more from Rachele. Soligo and Michalanney each finished top four in the club’s best-and-fairest award last season.
Already a star: None. Star upside: Thilthorpe, Rachele, Draper

Adelaide’s under-23s (19 players)

Sam Berry, Riley Thilthorpe, Luke Pedlar, James Borlase, Billy Dowling, Max Michalanney, Tyler Welsh, Sid Draper, Josh Rachele, Zac Taylor, Jake Soligo, Brayden Cook, Toby Murray, Luke Nankervis, Charlie Edwards, Daniel Curtin, Hugh Bond, Oscar Ryan, Karl Gallagher.

It's a Melbourne newspaper article. Who buys Melbourne newspapers? Melbourne residents...

Pure Victorian propaganda. Nothing more.

I mean even from the list of players they've listed, Soligo Curtin & Max M have star upside. It's laughable that Soligo isnt listed in particular. Worrell is 23 as well so doesnt qualify. They know so much about our list that they refer to curtin as a defender so take it with a grain of salt I guess
