The SANFL has 25m and 50m penalties. Gives a big of wiggle room so that the penalty fits the crime

nah.. the 50m penalty isnt the problem.. its the ridiculously ****n stupid “stand” rule thats the problem.

Just get rid of the stand rule. It is without doubt the biggest blunder the AFL has made re rule changes. It is not achieving what it was supposed to do as far as scoring goes, at least its impact on scoring is minimal. The player kicking the ball gets a couple of metres head start before play on is called and the guy standing the mark has no chance of defending the play on. The extra space to play on isn’t increasing the scoring.
It’s a petty bullshit rule and should be killed with fire.
