Don’t be so sure. Kenny has only had such a good record because Port overspent on their football department.

Richardson, Voss, Burgess. They’ve always had good support around.

I think as much as anything there drop off this year is attributable to the rubbish assistants they now have.

If Hinkley goes and Bassett gets the gig they’ll just have to replace his assistant role with another bloke that couldn’t get a job anywhere else.

If they go outside the club I expect Bassett to get the shits and leave.

I reckon Hinkley leaving with be the start of a 5 year period in the basement for that club that gets real ugly real quick.
Completely agree with this.

Their real issue is a financial inability to replace excellent support staff as they leave.

I mentioned a couple of weeks back, PAFC are a carbon copy of us prior to our demise.

Off field staff leaving, the net was cast high and wide, only to find the best man for the job a couple of doors down. Sound familiar?

That was their CEO position.

Then there was their fitness guy who left and again, the net was cast wide and high, only to find the best man for the job was a couple of doors down the hall. It is as bad as AFC appointing a shit fitness guy as the football manager.

Finally, the assistant coaches who left were never replaced and their off field staffing is a mess.

This, together with the fact that their playing list has been dangling on the edge of a cliff due to being carried by a handful of geriatrics and their so called strong talent coming through turning into duds.

All the time, their fans are spitting the dummy and walking away from supporting their club.

It is only going to get worse, and it is glorious to watch.

We could well win. I don’t know honestly. We will see what new injuries etc arise tomorrow when the team is named. We appear to be at the beginning (or are going through) the first stages of collapse. Simpson is on the runaway train to getting sacked. Messy all round.

So nothing will surprise. Port Power played well enough in the second half on the weekend and if they play like that, they should win. In front of the true believers.

Will be the only saving grace, if we can help ease Ken’s troubles just for a little while 😂

Surely the problem isn't Simpson though? That would be a rough deal if he got the flick. Your boys have been hit like no other with injuries and covid stuff.

Too cold? Are Thursday nights colder than weekend nights?
Statistically there is a temperature difference between weekends and weekdays, in many cities, due to a reduction in air pollution on the weekends. I just can't remember whether the temperature goes up or down. Thursday is not a weekend, so it shouldn't be any different to Friday night - but it should be slightly different to Saturday or Sunday nights.

When I say slightly, the difference is less than a degree, and only really measurable when averaged over a long period of time.

There was a notable change in temperature/weather in the US in the days following 9/11, due to the airline traffic being shut down. The lack of contrails created clearer skies, which resulted in statistically significant weather changes.

OK... this is definitely the pedant in me showing through.

Did anyone else feel awkward or grubby on the weekend??

I discovered myself barracking for Carlton in a close game. WTF...
Not at all. I support 2x AFL teams - the Adelaide Crows, and whoever is playing Port Adelaide.

As much as many people like to bag the club (AFC) for doing this - the same process is repeated in most organisations around the world, sporting and commercial.

I admit I was truly tested as Crows supporter, when Paddy left us to Geelong.

I thought I would be supporting the Power v Danger at AO. I was so wrong, within 5mins, I realised that my hatred of Port will never wane.

I remember that night on this forum, a lot of Crows posters turned from potentially supporting Port to against them.

Didn't tough man Jonas spend the first five minutes of that game trying to be a hero?

Promoting internally is a great thing, but can also be seen to be a 'burying the head in the sand' approach, and history would show that the AFC dropped the ball big time in appointing internally through this time. With PAFC, there incoming CEO had worked closely with KT and I would have thought they could have benefited from an outsider coming in and a fresh look at the Club. If the rumours are to be believed, that is what they wanted, but the AFL kyboshed the appointment as it was going to cost them too much cash to do so.

Their football department seems much worse on the outside as they didn't replace any of their highly regarded assistants who left in Voss and Schofield. Maybe they thought they would be able to absorb their impact, but it would seem this was ill advised. I would imagine it was a financial decision to make their bottom line look healthier and their arrogance has got the better of them, thinking they could continue to win with limited off-field resources.

Please don’t come onto our board and say that. You will be met with a very hostile reception 😂 There is a large group that want him gone immediately…

There are a multitude of issues, and injuries and COVID aside, the agitation relates to our “underachievement” in the past three seasons, him (Simmo) sticking to an obselete game plan and refusing to change, a selection policy based on favouritism and seniority etc etc.

Simpson isn’t even credited with 2018, it was all Sam Mitchell, just as Don Pyke is credited with us getting to the grand final in 2015. It is an “interesting” world let’s just say that 😂

I am willing to hold for a bit longer. I am hoping that with a more settled team, we will see some change to gamestyle, with the influence of Knights and Schofield. That is the hope anyway. But if not… For a conservative, risk adverse organisation such as WCE, we will be facing a very bit payout if we were to move on the coach. Either way, the list will be getting turned over significantly come seasons end. Fun times!

Not push Hawkins away from contesting the mark with another player when you have no intention of going for the ball yourself?

The only probably legal thing you can do is to stand in front of them and pretend that you're also jumping for the ball.

It's a free kick and so it should be.
Yet it was perfectly fine for Hawkins to push his man straight in the back the week before?

Brad ******* Scott. Of all people. Telling you not to show dissent.

Does he think we forgot his entire playing career?

This is like John Holmes telling you not to show anyone your massive ****.

This is just the poster tweet that sums up all you ****ing pricks that make up Generation X.

Port under Koch seems to have a "spend money to make money" approach, but the make money part never arrives.

The move to Adelaide Oval, Port "overtake" us as the number one team in town... Nobody compared the financials and saw that their marketing spend was a million dollars higher than ours or something like 3x from memory. It looked good, but the make money phase never came because then they dropped off for a few years, making finals just once out of 5.

Then there was China, spend a heap of money getting that off the ground, I'm not sure there was ever going to be a make money phase, and COVID didn't help, but that's all money lost now, what a shock, they didn't convert 1 percent of 1 percent of the Chinese population into members and their big star Chinese draftee Chen Shaoliang isn't a national hero back home.

Now they are clearly in a save money because as an assited club the AFL is making them phase, their coaching panel is Ken, Bassett, Montgomery and Chad Cornes, thats it.

It is only going to get worse, and it is glorious to watch.

All they need now is one of their 'star' young players to leave - probably Georgiades.

I fully expect them to find some form at some point and pull themselves up into that 10th-12th middle-ladder dead-zone which doesn't feel good as a supporter and doesn't give great draft picks. Hopefully just high enough to save Ken for another year.

And I’ll relate a personal experience- was at a junior game last year to watch one of the grands play - I thought the 2 boys umpiring did a damned good job, so after the game when they were walking away I went after them to give them a compliment.

As I got close 2 blokes got out of nearby car and got between us. It was the 2 Dads. I said it was ok just wanted to compliment them and encourage them to keep going.

Sad that Dads said they are basically there as security. That’s where we are at though
Our son was involved in an under 11 game ten years ago. My hubby was the coach, I was the manager. Anyways, this game umpire was diabolical. Only a young fella (maybe 15?), but oh my goodness. Power hungry was putting it mildly. As it was an under 11 game, they didn’t play full ground, so they had the auskick goals in place of the regular goals. This meant there was no actual goal square. a point was kicked. Our player took the kick out at which point the umpire blows the whistle and says the player had crossed the line. Ball up. We all just have a chuckle, the kid scratches his head, play on. Then it happens again! At this point the opposition coach gets a can of spray paint and marks the line on the ground. Then almost every call made by this umpire, goes to the opposition. And fifty metre penalties because the water boy was on the ground (twice), the runner was on the ground, a player put his arms out (didn’t say anything, but it was a “what was that for?” Type dissent). umpire gave this player a red card. Red cards are not used at this age group. At one stage it was so bad, my hubby asked the parents if they wanted to take the kids off? Honestly, as parents, we were seething. Now we fully expected to get beaten by this particular team - they were very well drilled and highly skilled, but we did not think we’d have to contend with this blatant display of incompetence at the umpiring level. Even our opposition coach was flabbergasted and said he would support a complaint to the league. Now, we’ve taught our boy to always respect the umpire and to accept their decision. Always. And bugger me, at the end of that game, when most of our kids were in tears, parents bursting out of their skins angry, our boy (who was captain that day) walks up to the umpire to shake his hand. It was a very humbling experience. But it was at this game that I could see why parents could quite easily abuse a young umpire and we were very grateful that nobody did (but geez we wanted to). After the game, the umpire goes up to the boy who he gave the red card to and said “you can take your chances at the tribunal or accept a two week ban now”. Under 11s don’t have a tribunal and umpires have no right to decide penalties. It was really unbelievable!

To be honest I just don’t think the bloke has many real ideas, just rehearsed diatribes he falls back on because it’s easy and all he knows.
To be fair, he does his research and has an abundance of useless facts about every player… “he used to brush his teeth with a port Adelaide toothbrush”…

Yep I think they are going to be “chasing greatness” until their legs fall off 😄

Their best chance of making money was their 150 000 year celebration when they had the home PF v Richmond but managed to stuff that up. Win that and a flag and they would have made a fortune in merch, memberships and sponsors.

Instead, they stuff it up, KT decides it’s time to move on, they get back to a home PF but completely tank it on the night. Their best assistants decide that they’ve given their all, time to move on, and here they are trying to get blood out of a stone.

Speaking to Nigel Smart one day, he said the SA market is 70/30 Crows/Port so they need to make every post a winner but thanks to that idiot Koch they’ve tied themselves to Hinkley with two unnecessary extensions and ultimately they’ve got what they well and truly deserve.

Now they’re just waiting for a true Port person to come along and turn them back into the real Port so that blah blah blah… Tedious to the max 🙄

I coach my daughter's team in SANFL Juniors competition, and previous years if there was an issue that required clarification (i.e. interpretation of modified rules of the grade that the umpire was officiating) the coach could send the team manager to approach the umpire. This year, this is no longer allowed, and no one is allowed to talk to the umpire during the game.

If the umpire wants to make an enquiry they will approach the Ground Marshall and that is it. Free kicks can now be paid if any complaints are made from the coaches box. It is set up to be an absolute shit show.
