Why didnt the AFL explain the new dissent 50m penalty to the football public in the preseason?

Why so secretive changing the rules?

Do they not think those attending & watching games have the right to understand rule changes.

What a joke!

I've umpired a lot of junior sports and feel that the difference with football is there is a chance a parent's child gets hurt during the game.

That ups the ante. Everyone is slightly more on edge when there's a chance their child will get hurt.

There can be flare ups at any sport of course, non-contact and contact alike, but the general vibe of a "typical" game of football includes more yelling at the umpire than other sports imho
It's the sheer amount of ambiguity

From the Sack Hinkley thread, the best description of Port under Ken: “the worst results when it matters most”
Sweetest moments for us :)

I think its a masterstroke to actually instigate match fixing.

Its a genuine real thing now that umpires can literally alter a result of a game.

Players cannot contain themselves. All the umpire has to do is to give a bad decision and then add 50m to it, because the player will almost always react to it.

Meanwhile Derrrwayne continues to spew out his “noise of affirmation” narrative despite crowds being at a low ebb….suggesting that umpires are unduly at the behest of the mob.

I was disgusted by Dwaynes commentary of the Crows game.

Its one thing to mention Tex's return from his suspension, but on his second game back to continue on the subject ad nauseum was just being a typical Port supporter, it was meant to be neutral commentary.

To be honest I just don’t think the bloke has many real ideas, just rehearsed diatribes he falls back on because it’s easy and all he knows.

Is Aliir Aliir the reason Port will continue to fail?

I know he was an All Australian defender but hear me out.

Aliir Aliir was at his best when Port's midfield were able to flat track bully teams, forcing them wide and to blind kick down the line allowing Aliir an easy run and jump intercept mark. But....without doubt I can see why Sydney traded him. He is horrible, one on one, one of the worst in Ports 22. So much so, I think he is a weak link. The Western Bulldogs didn't have to complete a rocket science degree to figure out a way through Ports defence in that Preliminary final. They identified Aliir as a massive defensive one on one weakness and resolved to kick it to his man as much as possible. Yes he had injuries, but Carlton exposed him badly again on the weekend and honestly, unless he changes position out of defence, switch forward maybe, I think he will fade into a depth player pretty quick. Port don't have the midfield dominance anymore which means teams will get a better run at moving it forward which will expose Aliir.
Possibly, I'd give him a couple of games to come back from injury before I make a judgment on him.

Not saying you're wrong though

A classic Manure statement of, 'It is my understanding' - i.e. I am making things up.
Tex should publically challenge him by demanding a source. None will be offered and at that time Tex can expose him as troll.

Furthermore, we could surely get lot's (hundreds) of AFC fans to email McClure at his workplace and also demand a source. When he stops replying, escalate this to his manager.

He can be held accountable...

Noticed how Dunstall and Lyon stayed silent, gave him nothing as he tried to stumble through his point. I wonder if he was told to STFU about it by those two off-air. It was absolutely not needed and was at that gutter low level that Manure usually reports at

The poor buggers in the Sack Hinkley thread on the Port board have basically exhausted all the things they can say about how crap he is and why he should go, and while they wait for the next game - hoping for a WC win to put more pressure on him but worried that WC might be so compromised atm that Port can’t help but win 😂 - all they have left is to make jokes and memes about Ken and Koch.

They’re past bitterness, past despair, past hope, resigned to the fact it won’t happen soon but still wanting it to, just waiting for whatever sh** the footy gods will dump on them next…their posts are genuinely quite funny to read 😄

There’s been a couple come onto our board saying they hope we win… 😂
Tragic really. Sadly (for them) I think they may have their first win on the board by Saturday night!

Probably the same source he got his award-winning and then stripped Wakley award from...

They are in a real bind, nothing they want more than to win but they need to get rid of Hinkley. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you blokes win, Port have no reliability right now

Did anyone else feel awkward or grubby on the weekend??

I discovered myself barracking for Carlton in a close game. WTF...
A true Crows supporter would want Kenny to win on the weekend.

We need him in 2023 and beyond.

We could well win. I don’t know honestly. We will see what new injuries etc arise tomorrow when the team is named. We appear to be at the beginning (or are going through) the first stages of collapse. Simpson is on the runaway train to getting sacked. Messy all round.

So nothing will surprise. Port Power played well enough in the second half on the weekend and if they play like that, they should win. In front of the true believers.

Will be the only saving grace, if we can help ease Ken’s troubles just for a little while 😂

Keep strong, just remember... if you lose, you are doing the greater footy community a great service.

The word "spade"? Yes. The phrase "call a spade a spade"? That predates the "spade" epithet by a long time - in fact, it - or a version of it - dates back much longer.

Are you saying that you've heard people use the phrase "call a spade a spade" as a racist epithet? I suppose some might, but that doesn't mean it's inherently a racist saying, or that someone who uses it in its normal meaning is engaging in "racist dogwhistling". I think it's deliberate misappropriation of an innocent phrase.

Well, where I live, it's just a saying that has no racist connotations whatsoever.

If I say "I like the way he talks, he calls a spade a spade" I am not going to apologise to someone who thinks that's an inherently racist term. I'm not responsible for other people who choose to misappropriate the phrase outside its original meaning.

This is true enough. I just don't think "call a spade a spade" has - or should have - reached that point. These "different meanings" are often not the result of a genuine societal shift in language, they are often imposed by people who want to seek out offence where none is intended, and to sanitise language beyond any reasonable level.

Now, as another example - I like "black humour" or "dark humour". I admit that I will sometimes choose to use "dark" rather than "black" because I know some people will (wilfully) misunderstand. But "black humour" is still not a racist term.

To call a spade a spade does not have its etymology in racial epithets

It just doesn’t, and it does no one any good to just pretend otherwise

My fathers favourite usage was to say that it was one thing to call a spade a spade, it was another to cal it a ****ing shovel 🤣🤣

Don’t be so sure. Kenny has only had such a good record because Port overspent on their football department.

Richardson, Voss, Burgess. They’ve always had good support around.

I think as much as anything there drop off this year is attributable to the rubbish assistants they now have.

If Hinkley goes and Bassett gets the gig they’ll just have to replace his assistant role with another bloke that couldn’t get a job anywhere else.

If they go outside the club I expect Bassett to get the shits and leave.

I reckon Hinkley leaving will be the start of a 5 year period in the basement for that club that gets real ugly real quick.

Never ever feel grubby for barracking for a port loss.
