…there’s not enough talent to fill 18 teams let alone adding another.
This has already created the phenomenon of a type of player who is an athlete rather than a skilled footballer.

Semi skilled footballers can get a game in the AFL now if they are stand out athletes. Their effort makes up for their pedestrian skill. This has probably always been the case but to me it appears to be more prevalent now.

Going back, particularly before GC and GWS I don’t remember as many ‘triers’ getting a game.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the triers because they have their place, but sometimes their lower skill level isn’t as Jarmanesque, for example, as we’ve been accustomed to enjoying.

He's clearly got football knowledge, but he's a bit marble mouthed in trying to get it out sometimes.
Who cares about that?

Much rather someone with insight spoken clunkily than a polished dimwit offering nothing

Out of thode 20 odd million.. how many are males aged between 18 and 35?..
Whatever the number is there should be no issues finding enough.
Cut it back to 10 teams and people will still complain about the standard, it’s what people do.
Were state of origins the most skillful games?

Graham Cornes once said there were a lot of crappy games in the "Good old Days".

Jyst that few games were televised live on TV with highlights being shown.

Plus high scoring end to end shoot-outs were not exactly high standard games.

i’m starting to think I might agree with Lingy..

this comp needs less teams not more.. there’s not enough talent to fill 18 teams let alone adding another.

so many poor skills on display from the saints out there tonight it was disgusting and half their players didn't even look like they cared.

they need to piss 4 of the Vicco teams off.. or maybe two of them and have two merge and go to Tassie.

the only issue is would tasmanians get behind a relocated team(s)… or would they rather start fresh and have their own team with no previous ties.
Definitely too many teams in Vic. I think a 12-14 team comp is a good number. There needs to be also a better system in place for struggling teams to get up the ladder quicker along with the AFL simplifying the rules. Would also also like to see 25 mins max quarters which would cut 20 mins off the average game bringing it down to 100 mins. While we are at it I would also like 2 less players on the field on each team to decrease congestion. Lastly I would move move the comp to August - December which is much better weather during this period. Have it coincide with the AFLW and you could play double headers and provide greater value for membership. If they make some needed changes the crowds should start filling grounds again because in its current form it's dying a slow death.

Oh for a little more Jarmanesque-ness in our players..

Dawson can be exquisite. Milera at times. Tex with his handballs and field kicking.

I want more!
