This has already created the phenomenon of a type of player who is an athlete rather than a skilled footballer.…there’s not enough talent to fill 18 teams let alone adding another.
Semi skilled footballers can get a game in the AFL now if they are stand out athletes. Their effort makes up for their pedestrian skill. This has probably always been the case but to me it appears to be more prevalent now.
Going back, particularly before GC and GWS I don’t remember as many ‘triers’ getting a game.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the triers because they have their place, but sometimes their lower skill level isn’t as Jarmanesque, for example, as we’ve been accustomed to enjoying.
