Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
And you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'

What? Why the f*** am I taking the L, ffs?

I am speaking of my experience when I lived in the US.

While I lived there, I heard zero Americans ever use the term "gridiron" for NFL.

I'm sure the majority knew the term but absolutely none used it.

I've only ever heard non-Americans use the term, because "football" is used to mean soccer or Aussie Rules where they come from.
And when I lived there - two decades before you did - that’s ALL I heard it called. 🤷‍♀️. Let’s just agree to disagree?

I read the pages and pages on this thread re is it called Football Gridiron NFL. I though some may appreciate this from now on it is to be called Hand-Egg case closed.

Story is paywalled but the Magic Round will be called Gather Round

Why, oh why did the AFL take up L Schultz's suggestion. Even Round 5 is better than Gather Round.

It does have potential for some left-field marketing, though...

Amnesiac Cassie Grant has a premonition that someone or something wants the family that's helping her recover dead. She investigates the secrets of the town they live in and uncovers darkness, both human and supernatural.

You can tell by Social Media, Clubs have been told to push & talk-up Gather Round (Rnd 5).....I mean who starts talking about "heritage" Round or "indigenous" round B4 Christmas ?

How much were we paying, for Betts to play for Carlton & Jenkins to play in Geelong's VFL side? Probably not much less than $750K between them.
I don't know why we agreed on Betts leaving. We wanted new blood but never received good compo for him. JJ was a cancer at the time. We should have called their bluff. We tear-up your contract and you can renegotiate with the other clubs if you want out. JJ extension deal was bad att.

Would have been nowhere near that.

They were reported to be on 400k (Betts), 200k (Jenkins).
$400K was Betts' original salary with the Crows. I'm pretty sure he was on more than that when he left.

Jenkins too, was on a damn sight more than $200K. That's $150K below the average AFL wage. No chance whatsoever.

Part of their salaries were paid by Carlton & Geelong respectively - but the bulk was paid by the AFC. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the combined total was close to $750K.

I'm not arguing the rights or wrongs of their departures. I'm just querying how much we were paying them to play for Carlton & Geelong.
