PAFC HQ Redevelopment Has Hit A Snag, Reports Penbo

The reason apparently is there’s been a discovery of soil contamination which they need to get to the bottom of.
Probably found the heritage listed prison bar.

I saw the pear supporters whinging that this was old news from prior to Christmas.

Exactly.

Fine to disagree with someone's opinion, but harping on & on with monotony is painful for the rest of us... & shouldn't make it personal.

Accept people for what they are as you are not going to be able to change their make up.

I know there are those on this board who imo are overly positive about everything & others who are negative about most things the club do.... & I'm not going agree with everything either group says because I'm in between... but I'm not going to attack them personally for what they are.
Respectful different opinions on the AFC or any subject for that matter should be always be welcomed.

Wonder if Penbo got a visit from management for daring to report something negative on Port

Negative?? I'm sure this will get spun as Port Adelaide football club discovery leads to saving the lives of the community who were un aware they were living on a toxic waste pit

Does the toxic waste pit explain something about the nature of Port Adelaide supporters?

I see 5aa have already had to add a footnote to that link explaining that they've already announced they found contaminants onsite and so finding new contaminants onsite that halts all construction activities last week when they've already announced it is running 8-10 weeks behind before they've even dug a hole is not news at all

Welding defects raise questions when GMHBA Stadium will get to capacity above 40,000

Holes in welding on steel meant for the GMHBA Stadium redevelopment have been spotted, with a union saying the defects will push back the opening of the new stand.

Welding defects found on tonnes of imported steel meant for the redevelopment of GMHBA Stadium have cast doubt over the mid-year opening of the new 14,000-seat stand, the metal manufacturing union says.
But the state government, funder of the $142m project, said it was on track for a mid-year completion.

Builder Watpac is using 1200 tonnes of steel imported from Qatar and 560 tonnes of Australian steel for the two-tier stand that will lift capacity of the stadium to more than 40,000 people.

The AFL has backended Geelong games at GMHBA Stadium this season with the club hoping the new stand will be opened in time for the games.

After June 22 Geelong is due to play six of its last nine games at GMHBA Stadium.

Victorian organiser for the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU), Tony Hynds, said defects were found in eight imported steel bases which were due to be used to hold up the roof of the new stand.
“It will probably open this year but it won’t be when they are saying. There will be a delay (to the opening),” Mr Hynds said.

“There’s been delays in the steel arriving. There’s been quality issues in the welding.

“The sequence of more steel arriving, it’s coming by container, will be another three or four weeks. This is coming from people who are running the project, as in management.”

AMWU welding inspector Ronald Smith, who viewed some of the imported steel last week, said he spotted holes in welding holding components together.

“They are critical items in the build. To my mind they should all be inspected singularly,” Mr Smith, who has been inspecting welding since 1992, said.

About 20 two-tonne steel basesare due to be used in the construction of the stand.

Watpac can’t talk to the media about the project under terms of its contract with the state government.

A state government spokesman said welding defects were found in imported steel and Watpac would be responsible to fix the issues.

The spokesman said the project was on track to be completed in mid-2023.

“The Kardinia Park Stadium Trust continues to work with the builder who has a comprehensive quality assurance process, ensuring all structural steel is fit for purpose and meets Australian Standards,” the spokesman said.

“Stage five of the Kardinia Park redevelopment is on track to exceed its 91 per cent local content requirement, with up to 560 tonnes of locally fabricated steel used on the project.”

It’s crap but better it is fixed now than have the stand collapse

I’m struggling to see holes in the welding in those photos.
Certainly a lack of rust prevention though.

Same.

Call me cynical but it sounds like a job grab. '' yeah gonna need to check a lot of this stuff ''

They do X-ray and ultrasonic testing to check for pin holes.

Leaving it unpainted (and rusty) is intentional, as a heavy coat of paint can hide undersized welds.

Cable is considered one of the greatest West Australian footballers of all time after a lengthy and successful career in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and West Australian Football League (WAFL).

The woman's legal action centres on allegations Cable sexually abused her between 1968, when she was in her early teens and he 24 or 25, and 1973 when she was in her late teens and he was around 30.

She is also seeking damages for psychiatric harm she alleges she suffered because of continuing sexual behaviour and harassment by Cable between 1974 and 1991, until she was in her late thirties.

Allegations denied, no charges laid

He denies all the allegations and he has never been charged.

The woman started her legal action in 2019, after changes to the law in Western Australia, which removed the time limit for people who alleged they had been sexually abused, to commence legal action.

I thought the image on the right showed the weld not even on the join.

Edit: I'm certainly no welder though
Yeah, the welds don’t look consistently positioned. I won’t make a joke about paying peanuts because the poor immigrant workers in Qatar are often treated worse than that.

And the irony with that, is they are having a better quality of life in Qatar than their home country.

Sad all around.

Heard something on the radio about a player massively bagging power players but didn't catch the details. Anyone know what is going on?

I only caught a bit of it, think it was an Essendon player who posted his thoughts on a heap of players.

His opinions seemed spot on, including a few of our players.

Media: Such a shame players only talk in cliche, we never hear what they really think.

Player comes out and tells us what he thinks

Rowe: Should he be sanctioned or suspended for what he said

They were saying it was Elijah Tsatas because there’s a guy on Ticktok with the same name who has videos bagging out players and clubs

Only problem is it’s not the Elijah Tsatas who plays for Essendon

There is a place at North Haven that does the x-ray testing.

Again I find it odd there are issues with the overseas welding when our welders are just as good/bad/indifferent - check it all

I've seen a few of those videos and thought there's no way Essendon would allow this type of stuff so just assumed it wasn't actually the AFL player
