Unless Port win the flag, I think they will go for Hardwick if they havent done so already.

How many times over Ken's coaching tenure have Port won multiple flags in May to August? Many times of course, but the story always ends the same.
It's already starting

Let's hope the following happens:
1. The unrest derails their season, they fall in a hole and Hardwick picks Carlton over Port anyway, OR
2. They panic and sign Hinkley to an extension. They are May premiers and then choke in the finals again.

What is Hardwicks family lifestyle set up? Does he want to even leave Melbourne?
He left his wife a couple of years back to be with a younger woman IIRC, so I dont think he really has "ties" to stay in Victoria.

His partner Alexandra Crow (right, in green jacket) was beaming as he explained why he had to leave the Tigers - and thanked her for her 'phenomenal' support

Kids, not sure what ages they are.
He was talking about never having gone to the footy with his son and dad all together.

I thought same re Dawson, also Pedlar --- both are skillful, tough nuts --- but not Rachele unless he's prepared to work harder for the team and not his personal goal tally.
Still, Rachele is only 20 with plenty of improvement to come, but I'd want to see him and Rankine on opposite HF flanks.

Agree, but will be very hard to find because they are rare and in demand by every Club.
Butters (playing like a Nick Daicos), Rozee and JHF led the way for PA over Melb., and could dominate for another 8 years or so.
They were ferocious in waves of thick rain, worse conditions than our meek lot faced in Ballarat.
You're right. We need at least two more (like them) to round out the midfield with Dawson and Pedlar. Hypothetical: Hinge to become a mid?

P.S. I've been half-hoping since Keays' very good year in 2021 that he'd make a mid, but no R foot kick limits his usefulness. He strikes me as someone who wants to improve and do a team job for the Crows but Ben, mate, work on the R peg ffs.

Jeez, I thought his right foot was his preferred kicking foot by the way he kicks with his left

Port love being the victim through their own doing with off field issues, I can see Kenny applying the heat for a contract extension at the start of August.

They will likely end the season with around 15wins and with that comes a double chance.

Port will either have to resign him before finals or risk derailing their finals campaign. Perfect Storm looms.:rainbow:
You can set your clock as to how Port manage to self sabotage each year.

Look at the new leading thread on the Port board now.........

The comedy writes itself over at Alberton.:D

His finals clause got him extended to end of 2022 afetr making finals in 2021. So this time there is no clause
Nope

Finals in 2020 triggered till 2023. Even though contracted for 2021.

January 2021.

Caro and the media told us in 2020 he had the clause.

I don't see why such a clause wouldn't exist in any future contract.

The tackling technique of dropping the knees was IMO fine, when the game was slower ....most of the time these days both players are moving at pace when tackling ....maybe a bit harder these days, hence the twist & turn technique, which was how I was trained

The key issue that's always been on my mind is ....players these days are being knocked out, with heads predominantly hitting the ground
Historically grounds were softer & muddy ....very few players were knocked out hitting their heads on the ground ....and that was when players were taught to hurt in tackles

If the AFL is serious about concussion, one of the easiest solutions, is to grow the grass longer to the same length of NRL surfaces ....that would slow the game down ....so the AFL are not that serious
I wonder if growing the grass longer may have been considered but dismissed due to concerns that it could result in more ankle and knee injuries..

The NRL is a very straightline game… there’s definitely some sidestepping involved but most ball carries involve the player just running in one direction toward the opposition and offloading sideways by hand to team mates.

The AFL is more 360.. lots of sideways movement, lots of twisting of the body, lots of sidestepping and, in the case of some players like keays and crouch, even running in full circles!..

Longer grass would slow the play but also result in more friction on the feet.. feet getting “stuck” in the grass whilst twisting the body making side movements and running in quick changes of direction could result in more ligament injuries with ankles and knees giving way as the torso goes one way and the feet dont move with it..

Because it is a simple equation.

Finish 1 to 8. Ken is re-signed.
Finish 9 to 18. Ken is not re-signed.

All parties inside the club know this, and very little media pressure against Ken.

Tredrea called them out, and has been further ostracised.

If he has a finals clause, then they're stuck with him because they're surely going to make the finals. Even if he doesn't, if they finish top 4 they're stuck with him unless they're very, very gutsy.

(Although why you'd give a contract with a guaranteed extension, just for making finals, to an 11 year coach who has never made a GF, is beyond me.)

So Hinkley stays, Carr gets poached by another club, and they're back to square one. Again.

They had a kick and catch at AO after the Saints game.

The grass is very short. Probably similar cut to cricket.

You would think it woukd be longer.

The urge to take my shoes off and try it bare foot was strong......

Ken will get extended. He has that Finals clause. Just like his extension in 2020.

If he is any good, Carr won't stick around to maybe take Port over in 2026.

You'd think Ken and his management would be pushing for a contract extension at least by the mid-season break, if they haven't already.

Could Port afford to let him go? What if he threatens to walk immediately if he doesn't get an extension? What would that do to their season?

Ken is holding all the cards at the moment and his management team will be keen to play them ASAP.

I cannot see how they don't give him an extension given where they are currently sitting on the ladder, and the melts would be most enjoyable.

i want to get the same grass for my backyard when i put new grass down, but unfortunately, you can't buy in small sizes.

Highly doubt he would threaten to walk if they don’t extend, that would be a total shit dog act

Koch has been very public about the August thing, and has said that this was a mutual agreement with Ken. The optics would be terrible if they jumped early.

His Clause was for 2020. He had to make the finals once to get the 2021 season. Which he did in 2020.

So he was contracted till end off 2021 then signed a 2 year deal till end of 2023 with no clause

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley confirmed he has a clause inserted in his contract where playing finals is a requirement for him to keep his job beyond 2020.

AFL journalist Caroline Wilson reported on Channel Nine’s Footy Classified on Monday night that Hinkley must make finals in one of his first three years in his contract to trigger a 2021 extension.
