Washington had/has a high rate of gun related crime and murders which prompted the name change. You can see the logic.

Essendon played in a GF a few weeks after 9/11. No one in the world took issue with their name. Even today the majority of people see no issue with it.

I've always thought the name is wrong. Quick search shows a post from 7 years ago me saying the air raid siren before games is ridiculous as well. Nothing new from me.

Reading some of the comments here and elsewhere online, this rush to associate anyone supportive of a name change to be 'woke' is ridiculous.

Is that where we are at?

There are literally people saying things like, 'people are offended by anything these days'

Yes, one of the most damaging apparatuses of war ever invented, the death and destruction, the billions in profit from the arms industry, the never ending wars needed to funnel more and more money into these companies. Bloody snowflakes lol

The way we’re going, eventually every club will be unbranded. Like cigarette packets. Can’t have the Geelong cats offending and alienating the dog people for example.

I don’t have a strong opinion one way or the other on the name change, but you’re right about the whole “woke/offended” crap

People who use woke as a denigrating label don’t even understand the background. And no one gets offended faster than those who very quickly point out how fast other people get offended.
