That seemed to be the perfect result for us today. Our next opponent play in a taxing game in the wet and lose, meaning that next week we can put a game and percentage on 8th position with a win. Port are finishing 1st or 2nd regardless of what happened today, their biggest test will be getting over the prelim final hump, assuming they get that far.

Everyone thought the flag was ours in 2006 and 2017, yet here we are… you can be the best team all season and not be the premier, that’s the weird thing about our sport versus most others. Collingwood keep finding a way to win and so do Port, so their next matchup will be enthralling to watch.

Next week's game is a good look at how we could go in a final.

IF we make it, we are likely to play one of St Kilda or Bulldogs at Docklands.

Lose, especially badly and even if we squeak in, playing a Final might not be so fun.

Saints aren’t finishing 5 or 6, still think they’re the team most likely to fall out.

Plenty of pressure on Kenny to keep his job & Kochie to reappoint him... which is building.
No pressure internally.

Qualify for Finals, 3 more years.

The pressure will be on Carr. Does he want to make Hinkley look good toll 2026?

Ports % is a bit of a giveaway and by that i mean they have mastered the close win and have those on the board but you are always in a game with them..they dont really put teams away. Lets see where they are at at seasons end and when finals pressure ramps up
Same can be said about Collingwood and they had their first close loss for the year in a prelim last year. Still so much to play out, can’t wait!

If Port can beat the current Collingwood line up at the G on Grand Final day then good luck to them. I had a similar attitude in 2021 - if they could beat the Dees midfield that year in the GF then kudos.

The biggest "worry" (if you think of it that way) is Port winning through, but also the Dees or Lions sneaking over Collingwood in a Prelim. I think Port can take both of those sides.

Anyway, these chats always happen in June and July. Flags aren't won now.

At the moment I don't really care. I just hope we sneak in and get a crack at a final - significantly exceeding my preseason expectations.

Correct... how many teams flying at this time of year have failed to even make the grand final...

There is a very long way to go... but at this moment Pies on their home deck deserve to be favourites.

Collingwoods % is league best by a distance this year and they are top and deservedly so. Ports is 5th best yet they sit 2nd. based on that i'd be far happier playing port in a final than collingwood even though we had them both times and let it slip just.

Also Port play Collingwood, us and Geelong in a row. That's conceivably 3 losses in a row to snap their hot form. After that it's anyone's guess as to whether they start to flounder or what but a lot of what Collingwood have done for 18 months and what Port seem to be doing now is mental, once that is fractured things can change.

Anyway, who cares whether Port win a flag, it doesn't change anything for us and our trajectory.
Playing shit teams twice… reach around all round.

We can absolutely beat anyone this year, that’s why next week is so critical. Keeps us with a shot of top 4 and almost solidifies a top 8 spot. Would really burn to miss out on finals this year knowing that our best can match with the best.

And the punditry across the border seems to concur..they think not only do we make finals but we are the side others would not want to face

Playing s**t teams twice… reach around all round.
Did you just pick out one of the very few non complimentary Port posts to get angry at? There are many in here with plenty of praise for Port, while understanding that your biggest hurdle is the prelim final. Surely Port supporters aren’t satisfied until they get over that hump?
