I doubt we will lose badly if we lose at all. Our worst result for the year was at the cow paddock out the back at Ballarat. Every other game we have been competitive and next week will be no different.

Our main issue is if a team restricts our scoring, I don’t see Essendon doing that.
I hate the fact I am pretty confident we will beat Essendon.

They play a pretty free flowing style of Footy. Which we like as well.

I actually think if we beat Essendon we will end up going on a run and pushing for top 4. Outside the top 2 the rest of up for grabs.

Our record this year against the top 2 speaks for itself.
Beat Essendon then that’s what the Dees game 2 weeks later shapes as being what that sets up potentially

I was just talking about this to someone yesterday, and it became immediately relevant last night.

Why don't teams set up to use their own teammates as a step ladder when defending the goal line for a kick after the siren?

All banter aside, watching that houston kick again.. has to go down as one of the all time great match winning kicks. End of an absolute slog of a game in the wet 55m out with a wet heavy ball and he makes the distance..just.

Fair play to him
The wet ball is what made it extra special.

It's so important to have players capable of kicking long goals from outside 50m... & fortunately we have a few too.

What absolute rubbish.

You go on a winning streak of 12 which will be 13 after next week and their becomes no pressure? Of course there does, it becomes about expectation.

The beauty of it all is if this streak continues and they have say a 19-4 or 20-3 regular season and don’t win the flag, then it has been wasted and the mental scarring after having 2020 and 2021 seasons will be huge. You get to positions like they are now, you have got to win it.
We should know...

There is absolutely no reason why Port can't win it all.

They've been deep into finals, and have found a way to maximise the talent on their list.

The past is meaningless, other than giving them motivation.

Melbourne or Pies at G on GF day will be a difficult ask. But they're likely to get there despite a relatively difficult draw considering last year's result. Could still drop pies at home and cats and freo away, but they're a very good chance to make the final game.

That's actually not legal
Interesting comments.

I thought the same, however I thought as well a "step ladder" is not legal. However, can you not use one of your own players to jump/knee in the back to get the elevation to touch it for a behind (pretending to mark)?

Second bit perfectly fine...just can't have your team mate actively assist. Like providing a boost or building a platform by sitting/standing on their shoulders before the contest.

Thanks. Im just surprised I rarely see it happen on the goal line. I would have thought this is the best way to get a touch on the ball.

For clarity this would not be allowed....

If you watch closely, the mark is set incorrectly because the Dons player didn't push to have it set right. He takes the mark about 1m further out and to the left. So the angle should have been lesser but he should have had an extra 1m to carry. Umpires almost always get sliding marks wrong and it almost never matters, it did last night.

Felt dirt cheering for a bunch of Pies twice yesterday.

It would be the greatest thing ever for two Adelaide teams to make top 4 and upset teams to snag respective home prelims.

So I'm less worried about what Port do other than winning to help us out than I am the Crows somehow engineering a run to the finals.

Imagine a Showdown Prelim Final at AO.

The city of Adelaide would literally shutdown for the game.

The fallout for the loser would be massive, especially if they go on to win the GF.

Losing a preliminary final then going on to win the grand final would indeed be massive.

What would be worse is the first Adelaide club playing the prelim wins and then watching the Iron Chef routine from the umpires against the second Adelaide side.

Dean Rampe is impressed though...

This is what I meant by stepladder. As in, using your own player in the nature of a speccy to get more elevation. Set up three players on the goal line, and three players a few steps back who go up to touch the ball.
