Why do we always try to impose todays standards on what happened decades ago? You can’t change the past unfortunately and choosing to do it 4 decades later reeks of ……… (you can fill in the blanks).

Ok, it happened, much the same as I called kids from southern European “.ogs” or “.agos” in school in the 70’s. It was the time, let us not get all righteous about this. There are things we are doing today which in a few decades time we will say WTF.

Now I will say when I was a kid we had a black cat in 60’s and its name was **igger whilst our white cat was called Peter.

Everyone knew people like this

I feel like there's always bands - top six, mid six and bottom six.

I think we're in that mid six, but that could easily mean missing out on the finals.

There’s definitely a world where that happens.

If it does, I don’t think that goes without a club reaction afterwards

The only way it happens is if player development stalls. And that will get a club response

They'll just blame injuries like they always do. If only Thilthorpe hadn't gotten injured right when he was about to tear the league up etc etc

Im not so sure. We’ve always been quite ruthless towards coaches. It’s one of the few areas we have been
There’s not a real large crop to choose a replacement from
If this is the path we end up on, hope that WCE continues to back Simpson , then we can poach Dean Cox from Sydney before they do

Other than him no real stand out replacement, maybe could’ve made a case for Mark Stone after being an assistant at Brisbane for a few years

Hmm, maybe.

Not sure I'm convinced. If the suggestion that Sando was sacked for more than on field is correct, then we were years too late on Craig, and Pyke quit (though even if it was forced we were probably a year too late given what we now know).

I am at least encouraged that we haven't re-signed him yet.

Despite being 6th gen Australian I used to get called those names at school in the 70s due to my nominal Jewishness. For the most part I was fairer skinned than the kids calling me those names. Mostly it was because the contents of my lunchbox was different from the norm. Didn't bother me, I was proud to be a little different than everyone else.

FUN FACTS WITH GROTTO

Does winning your opening game of the season matter?

In the last 5 years, the Premiers of that particular year had won their first H&A game of the season.
Statistically unsurprising. The premier usually wins 17-18 games each season, so there's a (roughly) 80% chance of them winning any given game.

Which clubs would have made those sackings earlier?

Doesn’t answer the question. I didn’t say that we shouldn’t have moved. Few clubs would have made the move sooner

It's a pointless question which calls for an endless amount of speculation with a significant amount of variables: how many would have fielded the same teams for instance, and which involves precisely zero known facts.

Unlike my question, which results in only fact.

And there’s been lots of pressure on them to do it, and they haven’t folded

Until Nicks no coach in our history had ever survived more than 2 years out of finals

If all is tracking well he’ll get an extension, but if the wheels start coming off it could get sticky

I’m glad they’re being cautious with not jumping in too fast to re-sign , look at Port weeks after they’re regretting the new Ken deal after going out in straight sets

To be honest there is hardly a lineup of willing clubs to poach Nicks
See what happens , we make the 8 = new deal , regress or a big plateau then we test the market

The feigned fear by those demanding we re sign nicks now is purely based on the expectation we will have a cracking start to the year and if we wait, we run the risk of another club cutting out lunch. These people dont take into account what if we have a poor start. Port were top of the ladder for a bulk of the year and Ken was not at all poached. Not sure why people think Nicks is going to be any different. Ken has been ripe for the poaching for the best part of the last 6 years and not a single club has come knocking.
