We would give our left nut for one mid as good as either of JHF, Butters or Rozee. They’ve got 3 of them and they are all young which means they’ll have a dominant midfield for 10 years.

It’s embarrassing for anyone to downplay their midfield when ours is a basket case.

Not downplaying the midefield at all am I?

It's the rest of the field where they fall off massively. You need an even spread of talent to win a flag and I don't believe they have that.

England can afford to have relegation because English Football and the population can cater for it.

Has zero to do with it

It’s purely legacy tradition, nothing more. It’s certainly not some well thought out or justifiable commercial stance

It’s just the way it’s always been with massive problems attached now the money is here

The FA cup now stands for F All

It’s not important anymore, beyond a crappy team getting a single dream fixture against a big team

There are plenty of teams in the PL that winning an FA cup for them at the moment would be a dream. Spurs, west ham and Newcastle would lose the plot

I read with interest the AFL are considering more gather rounds. I think personally its a fantastic idea however it will only dilute the atmosphere. Peter who travel to Adelaide from interstate are likely to choose one of the other options rather than doing them all. With the bye at the end of the home and away season, I think it does provide an option for Perth and the AFL could use it to tack on a 25th round, then have a bye and then finals.

No. The FA cup doesn’t even get a teams best lineup

By the time a team stumbles into the latter rounds, semi finals etc having prioritised everything else maybe

No big team gives a shit and middling teams prioritise their workload elsewhere

This is soccers biggest problem and its world wide. Fans make the game yet the rule makers insist on making rules so the best players only play for the biggest and best clubs. I truly hope the AFL sticks to its guns and doesn't sell out so the rich clubs can make super teams and the rest just become feeder clubs. Because ive stopped watching soccer for this very reason. Its become a joke and yet people dont realise it. Its just the norm. I live in Portugal and its an 18 team competition yet only 4 teams share the trophy. Its like in the PL, why get up and go for Aston Villa or Derby when making the top 10 is all you can aspire to do and pray one of the big 6 have a bad year.

Reckon their forward line is just as good as collingwoods from last year.
Defence clearly their weak link.

What is the point of doing it for Perth and Adelaide in the depths of winter whilst Melbourne gets to do it in opening round in March?

It works in Adelaide because of Adelaide’s size.

A rare occasion to disagree with you Sandy but FA Cup retains relevance and, as you allude to (I think), the latter rounds attract their best lineups. Teams DO want to win it genuinely because silverware is still the name of the game and managers live and die by it.

As another poster pointed out for those who can't win the league, it's the next best thing. Qualifying for Europe is more important commercially, but you don't see teams sacrificing a FA Cup qtr final to hopefully focus on Europe (plus winner qualifies for Europa League), there is no sense in that.

If you win the FA Cup it's suddenly a competition worth celebrating

If you get knocked out Oh well, means that we can fully concentrate on the important games and at least our schedule isn't too cluttered

Apparently there are calls for West Coast to be given a priority pick in the next draft.

That is despite the fact that they have won a Premiership more recently than we have played in finals, and finished 5th the two years following their Premiership (including during our wooden spoon year). Laughable.

Congrats of waking up from your 2 year coma, better times ahead.

The other thing it does is allow teams from across numerous divisions get a chance to beat higher division sides / get that big payday via crowd and tv revenue that can literally help them survive...its big for them

A bathwater OD is our only hope

Let's do our bit by pumping them up.

Geez... they're going to be stealing Brownlow Votes off each other... would 2 flags make it a dynasty or is it 3? Has a club ever claimed all three starting midfield positions in the AA team?

Overrated, our 2 key mids average more disposals.
