All these trades. Kolodjashninini is a decent pick up for Melbourne, though I'm still not sure on May, they have decent KPD options already.

I actually like what Gold Coast are doing. Starting new with barely any originals left.

Brisbane looking good and Neale is a good get.

Fremantle may have a semi competent forward line now. Shame they have Ross coaching them.

Port will be in the same boat again next year, between 6-10th with 11-14 wins.

North should be making the Eight next year too

Forgetting Taberner - who I rate highly

Mccarthy is a joke and Lobb is very hit and miss.

It takes their forward line to competent and nothing more

McCarthy played his best football at GWS as third tall, there should be no excuses for him now not to perform next year.

Let’s be honest, Michael Walters led their team last year with 22 goals. That would have been sixth most on the Eagles. Liam Ryan played 13 games and kicked 20.

I don’t even think Hogan is a particularly good KPF, but he’s lightyears ahead of what they have. Kicks two bags of 5 against the Suns next year and he’s halfway to their goal kicking award.

If beams goes to the pies, Brisbane have been ****** in the hole
They’ve been ****ed in the hole

Captain at the start of the year, champion player - gone for less than we were offering for Kelly, basically.

No particular reason to go back to Collingwood other than I guess he was bored of Brisbane now that his dad had passed away.

How did Freo stack up for i50s against the comp this year and what % of those were credited to Neale for anyone bored and willing to do my research for me?

lots of people on the main board quickly saying that Fremantle are the big winners of trade period. Could be a big shock to their club next season for the wrong reasons. Lost their most durable and consistent midfielder in Neale. Fyfe is no guarantee to play 22 games. Hogan and Lobb are both injury prone. They really need a good run with players health to avoid bottom 4 again.

Nice of Brisbane to trade a contracted player to the club of his choice forrrr *checks* Pick 18 and a future first. Hmmm.
The future first will be around about pick 18 too, you’d think. So it’s really not that different to 20 + 22. Plus Brisbane chucked in a couple of third rounders on top IIRC

Nahh they did amazingly well in terms of getting high value players cheap and getting maximum value for their players.

Whether or not it works out for them though is another thing altogether.

Agreed

The head coach is the key here for mine.

Still I’m comfortable that we have them covered on match day.

So many intangibles on top of just having highly rated players come into the side too.

Bringing Hogan, Lobb, Conca, Colyer, Wilson, Matera, McCarthy, Hamling, Hill, into the best 22 all within the same time - it’s a huge number of players who all developed in different cohorts with different coaches, playing for different jumpers.

It’s a bit different to bringing in a big cohort of draft picks and developing them together under the same roof.

It’ll no doubt improve them on paper but who knows how it’ll go in practice. I reckon they’ll come close to the 8. But it takes more than a big influx of established players to win a flag

You say that now, big fella, but what will you be saying in the match day thread if the Shockers nail the first 3 goals in the next derby? ;)

Hey!

I am the voice of reason in gameday threads :shoutyoldman:

On paper, Freo have improved massively. Loss of Neale more than offset by Lobb and Hogan. Colyer and Conca are handy depth.

But the game isn't played on paper.

It's a gamble to save Ross Lyon's job in 2019. If Hogan is still bothered by his foot injury and Freo's recruits of the past two years fail to improve it is another long season of uncompetitive away performances and shithouse defensive football at home. There is a reason why they were able to pick up so many players for not very much.

Mmm I think they've done well to strengthen their forward line. Hogan, Lobb and Taberner if fit, which as you've said is a big if, form a pretty decent forward line.

But their midfield is in an awkward position. Fyfe is what, 27? And that's about it for gun midfielders in the right age bracket. Brayshaw and Cerra are too young and there is nothing in between. Walters is a gun, but he's not a full-time midfielder and has his own injury concerns.

Their forward line isn't going to do them much good if Lyon doesn't change, you need supply.

Sly level brisbane are going to be trouble in the next few season, let those talls develop and boy could there be a huge roar in the AFL

Freo big winners for me as well and probably the trading of Pick 6 to Port was very clever and gave them a better strategy with which to trade Neale..

Pick 14 gets Freo a good player and then they will probably add some mature midfielders from the state leagues..

If Freo can actually get games out of Bennell I reckon he'll hold the key to any potential of success, and at this point success in 2019 would be a top 8 finish.

Bennell fills the Neale void and is a big body to protect the next wave coming through.

From the outside looking in they'll be asking a lot of their young mids to stand up against the best competition every week, I think that could take a few years.
