Wouldn't call Acres a gun, but he's had a good year.
Carlton's salary cap must be bursting at the seams.

AFL trade and free agency 2022: Blake Acres on track to join Carlton after breakdown in negotiations

Fremantle’s Blake Acres is on track to head back across the Nullarbor to play for Carlton next year after a breakdown in long-running negotiations on a new contract.

The Dockers wingman has had an outstanding season for the Dockers this year averaging 21 possessions and 430 metres gained despite a hamstring injury that sidelined him for a month from round 13.

But while the Dockers have improved their modest contract offer from one year to a two-season deal on between $200,000-$300,000, rival clubs have entered the race.

The West Australian reported last week Carlton were in front of rivals including North Melbourne and Geelong but the Blues are now believed to be his strong preference.

Carlton’s three year offer of around $1 million is by no means jaw-dropping but the deal will hand him certainty through to 30 years of age and a better financial deal.

The two clubs would have to broker a deal but finding a way to Carlton is his preferred outcome after six years at St Kilda and then three at Fremantle.

The wide open spaces of the MCG and fast track at Marvel Stadium would suit his hard-running, long-kicking style after a year where he has ranked elite for disposals, metres gained and scoreboard impact off a wing.

Apart from a boring weekend, this is why there shouldn’t be a prefinals bye

It significantly reduces an advantage that is hard earned

You could see poor old Robinsons mind struggling to grasp the concept ........ sometimes the light is on, all be it dimly, ................. but no one is home.

Alternatively, how hard are Fremantle scrambling to make cap room for Jackson.

Acres is no more than a B grade player but he’s made his fair share of a contribution to their rise this year but they’re risking him going for ~$100k a year. Carlton’s offer of $1m over 3 years doesn’t seem extravagant

Hasn't Gill resigned? When does that campaigner actually finish up? I'm amazed his successor hasn't been named yet.

He is hanging around until the next TV rights deal is done and potential the AFLPA deal as well. He might not be the head of everything else but he is likely to still be handling the majority of those.

Id take blake acres over gaff, especially as ones worth 350k and the others on 900k for worse output
