Sure, we had injuries that lead to our ladder collapse, but watching Richmond also suck, hammers home that both clubs are at the bottom of the cycle. Tigers won the spoon in 09 and we won it un 2010. Both clubs won premierships from 2017-2020 and now they're back down. Both will probably be back in the 8 in another 5 years, but we're ahead as we've been building for 3 drafts.

Richmond unfortunately won’t be as bad. They are a big VFL club playing 17 games a year in Melbourne. Will be able to scrounge a few extra wins based on that.

First game and all that, but hard to see them seriously challenging for finals based on their list profile. The new coach has talked a big game, let’s see what he can do with this list.

I wasn't sold on his appointment and he's started very badly. He might be in a no win situation - Richmond's list is clearly in decline buy a rookie coach isn't going to be given much time to turn it around.

Not playing finals from 2002-12 inclusive a factor as they had a longer list build giving them more depth of talent

Our ability to bounce back quickly after poor periods is good but we’ve not had a history of long periods of high draft picks which means we don’t stay in contention as long

This build will be different as we’ve already had 3 years outside finals and are at least 2 years from returning, probably longer
