Fremantle supporters wouldn't know what to do with themselves if their team won a flag.

Perpetual failure is a key pillar of their identities.

Their failure is just expected..They went from 3rd to 10th at the end of this season and got virtually zero criticism from the WA media

If we had done this, we'd still be copping it

Personal update - received news that biopsy results were clear, no signs of malignancy in any growths and no further treatment required other than 6 month and 12 month cadence of various tests.

Opinion of the physician in charge is that whilst nothing cancerous was detected, the rate of their growth posed significant risk of becoming so at a later date, perhaps within as little as 12-24 months. Combined with the complete lack of physical symptoms, I have been very fortunate to have them detected early.

Now also cleared to resume running with full weights and contact allowed in the new year.

Such a relief. Hadn't realised how much it had been weighing on me until the news came in and now feel like I'm walking on air. Definitely a Christmas gift come early.

Preseason training is back on.
Huge news, love that for you.

Hope you havent ended up pale as buggery waiting to get back out there.

Christ why would we put so much money and effort into bringing the remaining members of the Bali 9 home.

Albo looked so so happy that he was able to get that deal done too.
Comforting stuff to any one that's lost a loved one to the needle.
Should've left them there to rot IMO.

Thanks for the update and really happy for you.

I like many other posters on bf are no longer spring chickens, I've been thinking for a while about getting the scans you got, sharing your story and updates have driven me to start the process

can I ask what age bracket you're in?

If we had lost the 18 GF do you think we would've imploded like we did??

History says we keep attacking while up there then once we've won we drop off.

Doubt we'd have the same last 5 years

Better to win one and not find out.

It'll take something very special to beat '18 for me.

I remember going to the first game at Optus, watching Buddy beat us on his own just about. I left that game feeling like we were in for a horror show of a year, thinking the new stadium would erase our home ground advantage.

What a year it turned out to be, even without the flag. Undefeated in Melbourne, Yeo putting Dusty in his pocket and JD becoming Prime Wayne Carey against the Tigers, beating Port after the siren at home (again), the redemption game against the Demons (and making Fox's half time show feel like a funeral), watching Cockburn absolutely implode in front of my own eyes after the Gaff incident.

2018 was my first year living in Perth as an adult, so I could go to the footy when it suited me instead of having to hope Dad was available to take me. I think I ended up going to all our home games bar 2 or 3.

And, well, you campaigners know what happened at the end of all that.

Being a Vic, now a Brisbane-er, that was my first Eagles home game. I remember sitting there thinking that we were in for a pretty tough season...

Still my one and only Eagles home game I've been to. Always nice to be part of the majority... felt like i was home

Also, my memory of that game was that the screens didn't work... fun times.

I hope we can start turning Optus into some kind of fortress.

I'm sick of being crap and beat up at home especially

I'm sick of being crap. I just want to be able to watch most games knowing we'll have a good crack and a chance to win. We had patches of the year where we were in that type of form, but regressed mid year (then Simmo got sacked deservedly) and the last two rounds when we were cooked.

The bloke who organised it in Australia got 7 years here, others who had done a previous run got 5. The head of the crime syndicate was never charged.
2 of the 9 were executed, 1 died in prison, the 5 that have just been released did 19 years, 2 of them were stupid naive teenagers at the time.
Fair enough they did the crime but I think they've done their time.

Edit: Also people who lose their life to the needle have to be held somewhat responsible for their own stupid decisions.

You're forgetting one of the major catalysts for our demise.

COVID hubs.

totally, while WC had a more competitive season in 2024 at home I am expecting us to be much more competitive next year.
The bottom of our list has been strengthened considerably, we have several players who will come back from injured seasons including Allen, Hewett, Long, Flynn, Bazzo.
Also Baker, Owies and Graham make us better, the development of players like H Edwards, Hutchinson, Hough, J Williams, Dewar, Maric, Ginbey, Hall, Johnstone, Barnett all make us better.
The talent on the list with the new recruits putting pressure on spots makes WC a couple more wins team imo.

The only catalyst for our demise has been ourselves, let's be honest.

Attitude in the hubs stank and really set the tone. Be good to see some pride onfield with Mini hopefully.

Nobody defending Hewett re: De Goey incident is probably the worst thing I've ever seen in our colours. Think we're turning the corner tho.

I still personally think in 2019 had the weather not changed against Richmond in the h&a game we would have won the flag.

The players put everything into that match and were just cooked the week after vs the Hawks.

If the weather stayed fine we had Richmond covered easy at the G.
Was at that game. Man that first quarter was the best footy I’ve seen live.

Agreed, was a genuine sliding doors moment.

Start that match at 12pm, rather than 1pm, and the passage of the cold front doesn't impact the match and the Eagles win comfortably.

Also with a win, perhaps W.Rioli doesn't get on the weed afterwards and thus has no reason to substitute a urine sample.

Even with a loss to Hawthorn in Round 23, it would see the Eagles finish 3rd and play a Qualifying Final against Brisbane who were guaranteed to choke.

Win that and it's a week off then a home Preliminary Final against Richmond.

Win that and it's a Grand Final against GWS playing their third straight week on the road.

Arguably, in hindsight that change in weather marks the boundary between the two periods of the Simpson era.

Cheers, happy to share if it helps others consider their own health.

The 82 is for 1982.
