Will post this in here, but on days like yesterday it tells me that to make a Grand Final, you just need to be a good team, not exactly a great team anymore.

Sydney had an excellent year, but I still believe they are just a good side. Not a great side. Collingwood is also just a good team.

Essendon should take a little hope from this. If things fall our way, luck is on our side, who knows what could happen next year.

We are not as far away as some people believe.

Both sides you mention have recent history of playing and winning finals and a culture of good leadership and defense .
We do not. I take no hope from it as we are yet to show anything close to what they have in the last 10 years.
You need good leaders and a good culture.

Doesn’t help the game was fizzer. Rating for grand finals peak in the 2nd half if it’s looking like a thriller. A lot of casual watchers wouldn’t have bothered to turn on.
All those 'hardcore swannies' would have turned off at qtr time once they realised they weren't going to win and started talking about the nrl...

Plastic you campaigners are all plastic! 😁

Melbourne were a basket case 10 years ago. We are not quite a basket case, but things can turn around quickly.

We have hit our rock bottom this year. We have found out that “we are Essendon” doesn’t work anymore. We have lost that arrogance because we haven’t been a good football club for a number of years.

I have no doubt in my mind that we will look at this time, in five years time and pinpoint it to when the club starting turning shit around.

Considering Season 3 GIF by Portlandia

It’s so even, AFL would be so rapt that it is so even. There will always be shit teams, shit seasons like norf and wce and us to an extent. But look at Ess in regards to eveness of the league. Rolled sydney, not many did. Pipped twice by collingwood , it doesn’t take much to turn it around. We have been saying this for two decades though, maybe I’m deluded, but I live in hope. ( which is music to the ears of The AFL and Essendon)

But who do we have with the relevant skills to pull something like a major subdivision project off?
Need to produce more AFL level footballers.

Geelong has a production line with St Joseph’s, Grammar and College feeding into Falcons. They know full well that many of those not drafted will seek to return in time (often very little time).

Tassie has a larger population than Geelong yet the Falcons would have
more players drafted every year. Get the pipeline right and Tassie will have a similar advantage.
