Tim Minchin, the Freo fanatic, has his dog named after Walters, SonSon or Sonny.

Ok, let's see if we can spot the difference.....
Kennett has named a golliwog black-faced doll after an indigenous player.
The dog that Minchin owns, that is not black and does not actually depict a person, is named after his favourite player. (who happens to be indigenous).
I reckon Minchin has enough emotional intelligence to:
(a) not own a black faced golliwog doll.
(b) If he did own a black faced golliwog doll (which he wouldn't) not give it a famous indigenous sporting name.

I get the feeling there will be an apology of sorts from them both, but it will be along the lines of trying to father figures to these players & perhaps crossing that line, not realising the harm they caused.
AFL will come out with further comments on how we need to do better, offer a token solution & they all move on.
It’s going to be shit, I really do hope it’s not the case.

Nah, no way. This is a line in the sand moment. The allegations are too harrowing and graphic. They aren't coming back next year, and they might not come back at all. This sounds a bit unfair, but their side of the story is not really required. There is multiple witnesses, collaborating stories, emails, text messages, hospital records, rental records. The only thing they can do now is apologise and say they were misunderstood.

Yeah, and the evidence comes from two sources.
1. A report sanctioned by Hawthorn with 3 different partners involved (so not just 1 or even 2 people). There will be multiple emails, phone calls, hospital dates, rental history ect to check this one out.
2. The information researched by the ABC report. There will be multiple emails, phone calls, hospital dates, rental history to collaborate this story already.
They are screwed, which is why a legally prepared response (which both Fagen and Clarkson have submitted) which denied all culpability, was an error in judgement (in my opinion).

You see all these learned journalists saying "if true, their careers are over" and that's correct, but how will this ever be proven true? Of course there'll be much handwringing, apologies for harm done, promises to do better, likely a beefed up indigenous support system at each club, possibly as Gil suggested today even a quota of at least one indigenous board member per club. That's tangible progress but I reckon those calling for Clarkos head are going to be disappointed.

heck me dead, discussed with who thing with a mate who legit said 'This is the price of success, and the coaches would of had a reason to intervene'.

This same mate has said these things over the last few years.

• Nothing wrong with protestors showing Dan Andrews getting hung - it's the will of the people.
• Donald Trump is brilliant.
• Why should I stay with my current missues when I could get a younger version I'd be able to more easily control.
• Privatise medicare, all people should pay for their own health insurance.
• Due process is red tape and the (Liberal) government should be able to use their money on whatever they want, it's what they were voted in for.

Is it wrong for me to consider that my mate is barking mad and to think that he needs to pull his head in?

Just to really hammer home my confusion, he isn't even white so fk knows how he got these values.

But my point is - there's people out there that think this Hawthorn business is acceptable and that's... quite scary.

My take, which might be a bit unpopular is I imagine that it'll be confirmed a case of being a scarily modern version of what the stolen generation went through. A bunch of older men with a God complex told themselves they know what's best for young Indigenous persons who were having trouble adjusting to their culture/society having seen it before. In the act of telling themselves they were helping, they have done something heinous.

Whether this makes them racist evil and horrible people, or closer to arrogant, ignorant men in power with a very inflated sense of self is a different question.

Regardless, people's careers dont survive this level of scandal

okay, people talking about tim minchin is getting annoying. people need to go back and watch the pod. his initial suggestion was to name it mathew pavlich. but his family thought it was a to clunky name but, son son sounded a lot better.

also i know from my own experience that me and dad once attempted to convince my mum and sister to name a family pet shauny mac (after shaun mccmanus). alas it didn't eventuate. pity, because i really like the name shauny mac for a dog.
people naming there pets after there favourite players is okay.

there is a caveat though, which is intent. tim minchin is very left wing and i suspect would have been the type to chain himself to a tree in his youth. i don't think tim minchin is being racist.

Well, the second group do an order of magnitude more harm, in no small part because those people are taken more seriously, elevated to positions of power, and encounter little to no opposition or consequences. Which is why the answer can’t be to punish a few people, but instead to reform the whole damn organisation (AFL). Clarkson is a symptom, the system is the sickness.
