We need to find and start developing Alex Pearce's replacement even more now. Apparently the Tassie team will enter the league in 4-5yrs. Alex is signed for 3. They'd be mad not to target him as a key initial signing and I think he'd be hard pressed to knock them back. By that time he'd go with my best wishes. Inaugural Tassie Tiger Captain and spend the last 3-5 years of his career at home launching it all. I wouldn't begrudge him that one bit.

Although it wouldn't surprise me a great deal if he was the type that said "thanks but I'm a Freo man" either.

Now all we need to do is fold North or merge them with the Eagles or some other crapheap mob to get back to an even number of teams - or accelerate the entry of a Darwin team. I'd prefer we lose North but maybe that's just me. Moving them to Tassie made so much sense which is why it was never going to happen, way too sensible.
Alex is pretty much as proud of a Tasmanian as you can be before you grow a third head to prove it, he's been pretty vocal about his support for the team and I imagine he'll continue being as vocal as his contract allows him to be. I suspect he'll be part of the initial crop before transitioning to an assistant coaching role after a year or two (Similar to how Chad Cornes or Dean Brogan went about their time at GWS, just more about the connection to the team rather than a money incentive)

Assuming the team is 4-5 years away, Alex will be 31-32, Cox will have taken the mantle of number 1 tall defender and hopefully if we draft a tall defender this year, they'll have developed into a B22 regular (Or maybe we trade for a Sam Taylor or Denver Grainger-Barrass, hell maybe Logue comes back). Hopefully by then he's won a premiership with us and we can send him home with no bad blood

Sounds like Shuey has done his calf yet again. The Bin Chickens off to a flier this off-season!

Silver lining - At least Simpson has his first bullet point for his excuses when they’re 0-5
Shuey can’t play midfield anymore full time.
There’s questions over Yeo, NN, but they see the similarities with Geelong?
If we are being truthful Fyfe could be in the same basket, but we have already
proven that we can cover for him.
He is the cream on top now, and it’s why I think it’s time to make Brayshaw captain.

I can’t get past the paywall but please tell me they’ve actually said they see similarity with Geelong.

6 weeks old and Nic Nat’s kid gets his first leading story on Perth Now.

He met Santa at the shops.

Me thinks that someone needs to tell Kerry Stokes that by doing all these “fluff” pieces on NikNat & Co, his brand is now very threadbare.

Less is better.

I think there would be a three way win if Alex Pearce is head hunted to be the inaugural Captain of Tasmania. The AFL will give them bulk picks and if Moose is in contract we would be able to ask for a top ten selection, the AFL will create it out of thin air for them and we move on.

Hopefully our own first round pick is about #25 that season.

If he can help keep Fyfe and Tabs on the park all season build a statue of him.

"He wasn’t overly convincing in his first full season in 2022"

And that's being generous.

I mean, I’m not saying that that article doesn’t have depth… Howe… if it were a puddle and I jumped in it? I wouldn’t get wet.

Yep, I agree, as soon as I heard it confirmed I thought he'd be Tassie's Ben Allan and your Cornes/brogan comparisons are even better. I'd love the flag(s) but even without those I'd totally understand the move for him.

Cox is a fine player but he's not a replacement for Pearce. There's an argument Cox is already our #1 back but he's not a #1 defender. He's just not someone you can stick on the McKay, Hawkins, Daniher, King types who have that bit of extra height or bulk the way you cqan with AP. Cox lacks some of the desperation and urgency that that last man needs. When Pearce has been out in games over the last 2 yrs against those types, Cox has been found wanting in that role in my humble opinion. Right now we have Hamling as cover so we're ok but we need to get another one in and coming through. I love the Pearce out and Taylor in move you've suggested though, that'd be fine work. DGB not so much because I think he's more like Cox than Pearce.

The good news is you can "create" these sorts much more easily and especially when you have a Cox, Ryan and Young around them and they can just lock down. I just want to see that 198+cm defender being readied. Maybe it'll be Benning. If not then I want to see another one on the list. There's a few out there this draft and next so we can get it done pretty easily.

I think Tassie is a good 3-4 years away minimum. Possibly more. Hard to see it before 2027.
Won’t be much of Alex Pearce career left by then, he is already 27 or 28

Damn, to paraphrase Robert Muldoon, if Bell left Freo for North it would immediately make both clubs smarter
