Apparently an NRL player got 4 weeks last year for the same comment Finlayson made.
I’m guessing the AFL were not keen to be seen as softer on this issue than their cross code rival.
Sort of set a precedent they couldn’t really work around.

Manly in the NRL back in 2022 had 7 players pull out because they didn't want to wear a rainbow jersey for a pride game.

They didn't win another game after that and missed the finals and sacked the coach.

I would say the AFL is still ahead what AFL player wouldn't play because of a few rainbows on a jersey.

As far as i remember for a few of them it went against their religious beliefs as Christians to wear it.

Yeah they're all cool with defying the sabbath, promoting usery, laying up treasures on earth and litany of other sins the are in contradiction with modern life, let alone that with the life of a highly paid professional sportsman, but being indirectly associated with sodomy was a bridge too far.

Besides it was Manly, play on.

As a Broncos supporter i agree with you on the Manly part and as an atheist i don't care much for religion.

But i do think that people have a right to free speech and if they weren't comfortable wearing it then they shouldn't have to. They choose to sit out and rightly or wrongly copped the heat for it.

WCEs will be up against a rested Liam Baker

Will Finlayson be the same footballer he was after a 3 week ban?

So, I know the Brions have some great players across their lines, but why oh why they persist with some of their veterans in Gardner and Lester I just can’t understand. Surely they’ve developed some better young defenders than those two.

Developed? The Brions have been importing back men for several years now. Marcus Adams and Tom Doedee for a start, plus Hodge as flanker.

Wilmot and Coleman are their developing smalls.

Andrews and Payne the in house developed talls.

Oh yeah forgot Doedee.

It’ll come to bit them I reckon.

Meanwhile this Melbum team has heaps of youngsters in it. Would love to see us blood Simpson at home (well at least in WA) next week.

Tell ya what, Joey Montagna is really worth listening to.

He was on with that blockhead King saying that Melbourne haven’t got things together n the their game “strengths” and he wouldn’t be surprised if Brisbane roll over the top of them.

King sat there like a gormless twat, snort laughing, probably wondering how he was going to get “punish” into the next sentence.

Let’s see if the lions can finish them off

Technically he played zero games In 2022 but yes you are correct this is his third year.
I agree with the general sentiment that he lacks some athleticism and that will likely lower his ceiling but I think you can put this game down to his midfield getting smashed and playing on Harris Andrews.

A GWS AFLW player refused to play under those circumstances owing to her Muslim beliefs.
