Ports defence is a huge question mark. They were exposed badly in the finals and I think it's more a coaching issue than anything Ratugolea or Zerk-Thatcher can fix.
I think that's fair but it's better than last year and their midfield core has another preseason under them AND Dixon is mostly fit - never underestimate the impact a fit, experienced gorilla KPF makes to a team.

That's the other question mark, Dixon is made of glass and rarely goes a season without breaking down. The Port board would become Chernobyl if Hinkley pulled it off

Interesting to see the variable ratings. I think Swans and GWS are about the same but the Blues can join them if they tidy up the ball movement (as in be cleaner when doing it, the intent is there now).

Dees are still top 4 worthy if they keep it together off-field.

Port's issue is defense and they actually managed to decrease their squiggle defense rating playing West Coast so I am inclined to wait on rating them until they keep some good scoring teams to low scores. Also agree with the poster who said they are still relying on Dixon and he looks like it hurts to walk.

Suspect the Lions are still a top 4 contender as long as they beat the Pies next week.

Saints, Cats, Suns in the next bracket.

Swans = GWS
Dees = Blues = Lions
Port
Saints = Cats = Suns

Pies still good enough in theory to be in any category, but they'd have to get some motivation to work hard real quick and then beat the Lions next week.

Nope, Snuffaluphagus showed last year that even if they win the flag, it was still at least a break even trade.

Every position they finish below 1st is a sliding scale of win for us.
It’s how we should approach all trades involving future firsts or seconds.

Assume we’ll be last, and the other team will be first.
If we’re happy with the outcome, do the deal

If Port finish top 2 it makes our trade with them look pretty bad

Before trade period even commences there’s those two North Melbourne priority picks which mean the second round starts at 21. Then you add in free agency compensation during trade period and then extra picks for academy and F/S.

If we make finals our second rounder could be as late as pick 35. The trade might not look that bad even if Port win the flag IMO.

Having said that Port has already traded the selection so already has the benefit of it.

Snuffaluphagus show me your working
Firstly, the 2nd round is a complete cluster **** until they stop being campaigners and handing out picks to dogshit clubs and fix bidding.

Trade
Port R1 -> 23 + Freo R2

Looks like a possible overpay right? I believe pick 23 ended up being pick 32 on draft night, yes, pick ****ing 32. So let’s assume the worst scenario and we crumble and finish 5th last again with only 10 wins and Port win the flag. 5th last is already pick 25 because of the ****ing 2 end of first round picks the AFL handed out.

So, assuming any bids push out the future 2nd and 1st eventually, unless you’re a complete pessimist, the worst that trade can be is pick 18 for 25 and 32 which is about what it would cost for 18 anyway. The trade is just a sliding scale of winning.

Coincidentally, the 2nd round being ****ed is why I was so angry on the Henry trade being a gigantic turdburger

Ahh yes I didn't factor in how much academy and f/s BS occurs.

Looking forward to the Saints second rounder being like pick 40 and the media talking up what a masterstroke the trade was for the Saints, like it wasn't just Colin Young delivering Henry to them in their lap

So far, there are only two teams I dont think we can beat this year if they play their best, GWS and Port, MAYBE Carlton. Frankly, GWS feels a very very long way ahead of the rest of the competition and are going to be very hard to stop

You are so close... say the words, say the words..

The Decade of Dominance has begun!

Maybe but I'm trying to go a bit off the end of last year as well. I dont think Carlton are firing but they have star power that is pretty special. I'm big on the last quarter of last year (and last week) being a good indication of where we are at now that Young is in the middle. That's a top 8 side if it turns up every week.

I'm feeling pretty big on my footy opinions at the moment after saying Adelaide were frauds for ages and Collingwood are a decent chance of falling. Imma stick with my opinion Sydney are very similar to last year.

GWS -> Daylight -> Port -> Carlton -> 10 other teams -> Everyone else except WC -> Solar system -> WC

If we did a list for next season and the one after, I think we are with GWS and going past them. That is how good we are becoming!

You may have gone a bit early on this one Snuff 😂

Haha I stand by it regardless of result. No one plays their best every game, particularly the younger the team is. Our best can match with any teams best bar those teams, whether we play our best often enough is a different question
