I went a bit far there. Have to admit, I love my NBA but these last 10 years have really put me off. Same as this game though, the physicality and the fouls which they use to allow are called without question today.

Italian soccer was bloody brutal even from our perspective (Rugby/Footy dominant) but in the 90's, that league was all about breaking down the star player over the course of a game. If it meant dirty tactics, so be it but it is fascinating just how quickly all sports around the world were cleaned right up. Today's generation of sporting athletes are very blessed. If you are athletically gifted and you have desire, your set for life. Of course, only a small fraction of us have those lucky genes.

And it's actually a shit game. The standard is utterly trash these days. It is literally like watching today's NBA. Non stop free kicks and everything done possible to keep the scoring ticking over. Just a sad decline and no wonder the numbers will never be back to what they were in the past.

Not a bad player that Curnow though (although half his tally tonight have been from free kicks).

I'm a huge Lakers fan since the Showtime era, and I can barely be arsed to watch it the last decade +. I don't mind close-called basketball as long as the whistle blows identically on both sides of the court.

But officiating isn't what kills the NBA, the head cases involved in the NBA kill it.

They might challenge them a bit but probably not enough.

That's what tends to happen though when so many rules have grey areas which are open to interpretation, and it seems the three umpires in any given game have a different interpretation of the same rule, so you're always going to get inconsistencies. It doesn't help either when the umpires can't interpret the current rules properly and they still introduce new ones.

Imagine how frustrating it is for players to have the interpretation fluctuate within the course of a game.

Luckily, they're emotionally detached robots and have no skin in the game.

Well Brisbane are 8-1 and been a top 4ish team the last few years. Teams like the swans , dockers and saints are trying to reach their level . I personally think those 3 are pretenders, and will be exposed as pretenders. Just not exposed by us, hence we give them fake legitimacy.
