Ridiculous from the Eagles. It seems as though they have learnt nothing from the Tim Kelly trade.
Pick 3 is such a prized asset.

I rate Rioli but not 6 and 23 in a draft where 23 gets you (apparently) like an equivalent mid first rounder type talent in other drafts.

I can’t see why 6 isn’t sufficient. But I suppose suns only care about it points.

Noble should be valued the same as Dev and Sharp. But is apparently being valued closer to Houston. Mad.
Suns could’ve done what Hawks did, find the highest bidder and palm off pick 6 for a late teens pick and future picks.
Would've helped them reload next year as well rather than haggling with Richmond about pick 6+ for Rioli.

I kinda feel bad for the Port fans but a lot of them are adamant that their F1 is not included in the deal. Some realise it is but it will be.

Yeah - if you include F1, that's a terrible trade for Port.

Knowing Lombard is a likely top 10 pick and they're sitting in a dicey pick 6, 13 position - GC should've been proactive and traded both off for something like North Melbourne pick 2 and a F2. It would've sent a message to Richmond that Rioli trade if it goes ahead will be a F1 + 23 or 2 F1s, something like that.

Instead they are caught in this Houston trade kumbaya as well as trying to offload Lukosius on the side. Terrible.

I believe we did a good job back when Dunkley trade happened - we promptly downgraded our first rounder with GWS to generate points so there is no haggling over a pick which we didn't have anymore.

Suns want those F1’s for their academy kids next year.

True but if we have 2 years of future picks open for trade, they can get those points in other ways too. I believe Suns are also going to hit a threshold where they can't keep collecting every academy first rounder coming through and have to pick one and let the rest go.

Houston for pick 13 is fine
Externally yes, but Port were pushing for multiple first round picks. Getting just one in the deal with minor steak knives looks like it was too much for them to swallow.

“I am hearing it was the board as much as anything at Port Adelaide,” Edmund told AFL Trade Radio.

“This had gone to board level, and the board might have said ‘no, this can’t be happening’.

“So, from a Port Adelaide perspective, (Jack) Lukosius in for a future first, (Joe) Richards in for 39, (Rory) Atkins for 58, and that meant that Dan Houston was being traded for 13, 29 and 36 — and the Power weren’t happy with that.”
