Like Patfull the year before, I'm still at a loss as to why Redden of all people left the club.

Surely there is a lot that the club isn't being overly truthful about.
Interesting that Patfull may not even be best 22 at GWS anymore.

In terms of Patfull - he had very legitimate and understandable personal reasons behind his move. Nothing anyone could have done. I'm really happy for him and I'm stoked we got Christensen with that pick.

The club can't stop every player movement, and not all player movement is due to being unhappy or wanting to go home.

It's quite possible he negotiated a better deal at WCE than he was to be offered at the Lions. He was probably overpaid by us for much of his career I'd say - one of the consistent players in a weak team.

That was my understanding, but largely from reading between the lines - Redden got paid over the odds due to the averageness of the surrounding cast since his drafting. Once our overall team started improving he went from being on a top dollar dollar as one of the best of a fairly average mob to being offered something more inline with where he fitted now. West Coast had a better offer on the table and we weren't too stressed about keeping him, given he was under contract.

I see where Billy Slater is now out indefinitely for the Storm .with problems with the shoulder he had reconstruction on last year.Maybe he will never be the player he was.
Very sad.
He played well last week and looked like he was back to good form. But a tackle late looked to rock him pretty bad. Its pretty sad how injuries have really cut down his last few years

West Coast under Simpson have turned some pretty limited but still solid midfielders in Priddis, Gaff and Shuey into genuinely elite players. I have a hunch that they see something similar in Redden and that his trade to the Eagles could be a shrewd career move for him.
Not overly disappointed though. I think the trade will work for all parties involved.

Think I heard somewhere that simmo was keen on redden & May have gotten in his ear. Must be a role for him at eagles.

Gee, Shuey was pick 18 and Gaff was pick 4. Both have a lot of talent IMO.
Yeah but both had been playing at a level that was good but not great for 2-3 years, with Gaff seeming like a one-dimensional outside player and Shuey not being very composed with the ball, then both jumped up from above average players to absolutely elite players last year. As for Priddis, he's come top two in the brownlow twice after never getting near that previously.
Redden's been mediocre the past couple years but Simpson might see a guy that has another couple of levels to get to in his footy.

Port Adelaide Power defender Nathan Krakouer suffers broken jaw outside nightclub

Port Adelaide have suspended Nathan Krakouer for the first five rounds of the season after it was revealed the defender sustained a broken jaw in an incident outside a Perth nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning. Krakouer, who was promoted to the Power's senior list less than three weeks ago, has undergone surgery and has been ordered by the club's leadership group to train away from the team until the end of round two.

Police are investigating the incident after being notified by Krakouer, who received a blow to the head. It has also been confirmed that Krakouer was drinking, despite still recovering from a hamstring injury, which is in contravention of the club's rules. The 27-year-old was on a club-sanctioned trip to Perth to spend time with family. He won't be considered for senior selection until round six.

Amazing in this day and age the trouble some of these players get into.

Whilst Nathan was the victim in this case, is awfully similar to an incident in which his cousin, Andrew Krakouer, was jailed for a similar incident outside a Perth nightclub.

Eddie deals? When half your top players are working for Eddie outside the football club you know something shady is going on. It's a joke that Collingwood are allowed millions outside the salary cap.
As far as I'm aware the only Pies player who appears on the footy show is Travis Cloke is that's got more to do with his natural flair in front of the camera than any shady deals in the background imo.
