Re: Non Vic clubs yet to beat Vic Clubs

Nice stat but it's incorrect. Brisbane knocked Collingwood off at the Gabba in Round 2.
But that's probably the only win an interstate team has had.

The AFL sometimes counts Brisbane as a Victorian team, just ask the Tasmanian government.

Re: Non Vic clubs yet to beat Vic Clubs

We should hold an enquiry into why the interstate clubs are struggling so much.
Perhaps because they haven't played certain struggling Melbourne-based sides yet?

Carlton: Richmond, St Kilda, Essendon, Collingwood, Melbourne.
Melbourne: Hawthorn, Bulldogs, Geelong, North Melbourne, Carlton.

No interstate sides in that list.

Re: Non Vic clubs yet to beat Vic Clubs

Port have been shit I grant you, but they have played Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and West Coast so far and have only played a Vic side once. The draw is so compromised. How can you play 80% of non Vic sides when they make up 37.5% of the comp and 10% of Vic sides when they make up 62.5% of the comp? The draw is so freaking flawed.

Further to that, it's the front runners in the league inflicting most of the damage:

Geelong - defeated Sydney, Port
Hawthorn - defeated Freo, Adelaide and Brisbane

Other Victoria sides to chalk up a win were the Bulldogs (v Adelaide), Richmond (v Fremantle), Collingwood (v Freo) and St Kilda (v Sydney). Of those, only Richmond has won on the road.

Wait till a few more sides get out of Melbourne for the first time. So far, only Collingwood, Richmond, Geelong and Hawthorn have been through Tullamarine.

It's cyclical as everyone knows. With some of the interstate clubs getting access to high draft picks in the next 5-10 years the wheel will turn again. On the other side clubs like Geelong & Hawthorn will be fairly lowly in 5-10 years without access to high draft picks & losing players due to the salary cap etc.

Relax, just a reaction to the massive panic when the Victorian sides were streets behind the interstate sides. As stated above it is cyclical and people shouldn't be too quick to hit the panic button.

That's amazing! I know that it will all even up eventually, but confidence is an interesting thing. Getting a good start to the season can actually make your entire season.

I wonder if it had been different and Vic teams had travelled a lot early in the season whether the ladder would look quite different and whether this would filter through the rest of the season?

It would certainly make me feel a little foolish if I was one of those morons that was bitching and moaning about interstate sides getting used to travel and having a genuine home ground advantage etc.

There's only been 8 out of 40 games so far between Vic and non-Vic clubs.

But there's 6 out of 8 this week.

Less travel for Vic teams early must mean something but I'm not really sure what.

Port have only played one Victorian team so far, and that was Geelong.

This is because of draw maximisation, so that pissweak Victorian clubs can boost their crowds by artificially playing against a greater number of local opponents than a random draw would typically allow.

the eagles havent played a vic team yet so when we do it will change

lol have you been watching the Eagles play? I wouldn't be getting your hopes up :p

We beat Freo in Perth.

Re: Non Vic clubs yet to beat Vic Clubs

Yep, and you beat Brisbane in Brisbane, and Geelong beat Port in Adelaide.

What I was getting at is that at the moment, Hawthorn and Geelong are beating everyone everywhere, Richmond had a nice win in Perth, a couple of other teams have beaten non-Victorian sides in Melbourne and a lot of others haven't even played a non-Victorian side yet.

Would you potentially give up a showdown each year for a randomised draw?
