Alice and Aileen would be both deserving AA’s. However, there is no way that Aileen should get the nod over Alice. However, I fear that’s how it might pan out.
after next week they will have played the same number of games for the season. Alice has already kicked two more goals. Easy choice.

This maybe me grasping at straws, but here at Ikon I watched both teams warm up, and I was genuinely shocked at how much Port flogged themselves in their warmup.

Multiple sets of full on sprints. A lot of high intensity/burst stuff. It's like they didn't adjust their normal warm up routine at all to account for the weather.

Lo and behold, they looked out of gas mid way through the first.

Just something I bumped on.
My dad got to the game before I did and was telling me about this... He couldn't believe it and said it was any wonder they started so flat....

Woops

They had a lot of the ball for large parts of both games but they didn't put it on the scoreboard so they didn't control either game in my opinion. Their forwards went missing when it counted.
Same story again and again this season - it’s not just”kicking straight”, it’s not getting enough good shots on goal while they control inside 50s and territory. Very familiar tale for us. While our ins are very handy, that’s North’s single biggest improvement.

Was the game on channel 7 yesterday? I was going to watch the replay but 7+ doesn’t have it, only the night game.
It definitely was. Fox took the feed, I'm watching the replay on Kayo as we speak and it's the 7 graphics.

Bris was a better result for us - Crows were the best team we played and pushed us twice.
I don't know. We destroyed Brisbane but they were also the first game either team played. Brisbane would have had a rude shock and have picked up since. I think Adel would be the better bet: we've played them twice, recently, and won without too much stress. I put Brisbane in the we can't know basket.

Also - of any of the AFLW players who have tried their hand at the special comments caper, Meg McDonald is easily the best. Watching her with Underwood and Schleicher on the Fox coverage, McDonald was eloquent, didn't come across as nervous or like she was making stuff up, was able to speak to her experience playing against both teams, and generally came across like a genuinely seasoned media performer.

And there was some awful coordination with the audio at times, leading into the 2nd quarter i think multiple people speaking at the same time.

Lions scare me. A much more complete team than Adelaide, who instead rely heavily on a handful of elite guns. There's a reason they decisively won the arm wrestle last night. Hopefully our hunger is stronger.

I started watching the highlights each week this year about halfway through the season and have watched every final we played. The game has improved a lot and I enjoyed watching the games. Got to know the names of a few of our players. How good is it to watch a north team win.
It's fascinating watching the evolution of the game.

It's got less and less scrappy and sharper and sharper season on season.

Then you have the generation of players coming through actually Aussie rules pathways as compared to converts.

I'm not watching closely enough to see if it's happened already but a next step would be playing talents, styles and tricks unique to this format emerging.

Maybe Gatt, Eddy, Alice etc are a sign of that - the future dominance by lightly built, agile flankers in the sport.

If we come to play, we should be able to manage them as long

Good post. Thing that's interesting about those three you mentioned at the end is they're all very good overhead too.

Also, there was none of the usual insincere praise or blandishments that imply that some of our players manage to draw lots of free kicks or any other such poisoned flattery spoken through gritted teeth that we seem to get from special commenters. She was genuine and fair.

How smart was Crock getting all the girl's off into the cooler rooms at 1/4 time, while the Port girl's stayed out there, bloody good coaching right there

The other thing I noticed is that Port Adelaide had less water runners than we did. I'm not even sure they had the usual number much less the added numbers allowed under the heat policy. Their fitness and conditioning team and their coaches failed to prepare them for the conditions.

They will target us physically, as they did last year. Skill wise and overall talent, we have them covered, so hopefully we are up for it this time and respond in kind. I think we will.
