They will target us physically, as they did last year. Skill wise and overall talent, we have them covered, so hopefully we are up for it this time and respond in kind. I think we will.
Last year, Jas and Ash were kept relatively quiet, and with Jenna out early, much was left up to Mia to shoulder the midfield battle. We will go in with more weapons this time. And I feel confident that this alone will help Jas and Ash break the chains.

Plus Tripodi has elevated her game to become a genuine threat in her own right. There's a few more weapons there than there were last year. Not saying it's going to be a walk in the park but I think there's a little bit more to worry about for Brisbane.

Davidson needs to be kept quiet, but we also didn't have Birch controlling things back there last year. Across the board I think the list is stronger and more experienced, so it will be a really good game to see how far they've come since last year.

Vikki wall is key also

She brings the physicality

If Bruton didn’t get injured and wall plays last year we win

Also would’ve helped if we stupidly didn’t have wright on Dakota in the last quarter but that’s due to not having a proper second KPD 12 months ago

But as you say we have birch now to deal with Dakota

Brisbane are a level above the crows so we will need to pay them respect. We’ve relied on an even spread of contributors all season and we need a big team effort again for the biggest game of the season.

As others have mentioned we will need to curtail Davidson’s influence. Not only does she turn the game in their favour on the back of her ability, but she lifts the players around her. We’ll need to keep her quiet, I’m not sure if Birch has the pace to go with her. I’d put Ferguson on her as a lock down who can match Davidson one on one. High midfield pressure, have Birch floating in to support.

As for the other end of the ground, well I can’t stress how important AOL, Eddy, Wall and Bruton will be. Shierlaw and Randall will have to give us a contest and the smalls will have to do the rest. I would also push Garner forward if we are winning the territory battle and struggling to score goals as she always finds a way to score when she is down there. Hard to find a match-up for our Jas.

It’s going to be a tight game, but that’s where I can see the game being won.

I think if Bruton doesn’t get injured we win it and pretty easily.
Don’t forget she was bog in our prelim last year and even without her we were 3 goals up , so with her it would of been more

They have won both finals on the back of their 3rd quarter. Either side of that they have been ordinary.

Jump them early and weather the storm and it’s ours.

We need to be proactive and attack them with everything we’ve got - they’ll attack the body to try an unsettle us.
Be ready

Do the rules change if medical staff are aiding players off the ground?
When Tess got injured and was being escorted from the ground with a staff member they were walking off INSIDE the 50 meter arc leaving us with 7 inside the defense as the ball was being brought back to the center for a ball up after a goal was scored. Luckily Tess got outside the arc at the last moment and the umpire did hold off the ball up but what would have happened if the player wasn't sighted by the umpire and was still walking in the defensive 50. Would the 6,6,6 rule be applied? l understand it will be a warning first but it made me wonder.

Under Darren Crocker we have won 80% of our first quarters and 70% of our second quarters, and this season we have taken our first half dominance to a new level winning 11 of 13 (with a draw and a loss) first and second quarters.

And as good as Brisbane's third quarters have been in the finals, we have won 11 of 13 third quarters as well.

I do think Brisbane will be better than in Round 1, but if we play to our strengths, we should be okay, I don't think their midfield is as deep as ours or capable of absorbing pressure like our players can, and I'm not sure they have the defensive structure to curtail of forwards for a full game.

They shouldn't be underestimated (and Crocks will ensure they are not) but I'm confident we can turn around last season's result.

We also have Wall, who breaks games open with stunning regularity.

Watching the replay and clearly when Port “lifted” in the last quarter it was because North let them - like more Bella time at the contests. Good on them for not just folding but Crock evened it up.

I checked out the bris/crows boards and the media talks about their great
rivalry.

Do north have anything like that in the works? I used to see Melbourne as one but that definitely fell by the wayside last year. Who would be the next one, Geelong, Bris?

Feels like there is a bit too much mutual respect with the crows side but perhaps that has potential in the future?

Game was over at half time, they started to manage time of players in the second half given the conditions.

I am a bit concerned about the heat and how it will impact the second half next week, we were a bit flat against Geelong after that hot game against Brisbane round one.

For a grand final though I would expect adrenalin to kick in.

That was the second game and that usually happens earlier in the year is my thinking/hope.

Just got to put the score on the board when we have control because they’ll come hard at some stage.

Very much enjoying Meg McDonald and Ruby Sleischer in the breaks and post-match - and Kelly’s questions aren’t too bad. Especially nice comment from them after the game that Garner is so calm and skilled and modest and the team is playing in her image.

Beating a team in a grand final is a really quick way to set up a rivalry.

Surely it has to be the cats...they ruined our season by drawing with us

Could be a good one over time - great finals game recently and the clubs came in at the same time with different strategies.

Won 6, drawn 1 and lost none, it's not much of a rivalry.

A couple of seasons ago I would have said Collingwood, but we haven't played them since 2022. Any rivalry we were building with has fallen away much like the Collingwood Football club themselves.

Melbourne is probably the closest, we have played them nine time in seven seasons, and until recently all have been close.

I think our rivalries with Adelaide and Brisbane are just starting to build.
