Re: Northern Football League Div 1

KA, was talking to someone about this last week, do you know that the majority of the players live in the area, surprising as that may be, but they all live within 10k's of the club.:eek::eek:

I have no Problem with that, but that is a very large area of metro melb you have mentioned -Lets face it, they are not all Heidelberg people now are they??

Have at look at the area you have mentioned.

Heidelberg 10 kms to North - Bundoora, Watsonia, Greensborough, Mont & Eltham
Heidelberg 10 kms to East - Templestowe, Doncaster, Donvale, Box Hill
Heidelberg 10 kms to West - Coburg, Fawkner, Pascoe vale, Reservoir, Preston
Heidelberg 10 kms to South -Canterbury, Balwyn, Kew, Northcote, Fairfield, Clifton Hill, Alphington

Its Probably fair to say that the majority of Berger players live in the defined area you have mentioned along with another 1.3 Million populace.:thumbsu:

Re: Northern Football League Div 1

I like your wisdom Rammer and must say that if this guesstimates are anywhere close to mark, then NFL is lightyears away from Competing $ for $ with EFL.

I think you would find that appart from Bergers & Mont $ 200 -$ 250, the other NFL teams fall away considerably and are probably much more closer to the rest category probably between the $80 - 130k mark max.

Source?? Or have you just been on the sauce again?

GREATLY exaggerated

Spent 99k last year - with 6 new players in the seniors this week, you think they are on 100- 150k?!

I don't reckon Bergers spend 250k - but I don't know so I won’t say

Come on KA

Incidentally i noticed you did not put your beloved East Burwood in the top five money launderers - You have to be kidding don't ya, they have been one of the biggest spenders of $$$ in EFL for past 15 years.
East Burwoods money ran out years ago, hence their position on the ladder in the past couple of years. Hard work and rebuilding is getting us back but no where near the top of the ladder for now it will take time.

$$$ Donors only last for so long, that is why Vermont, East Ringwood and Noble Park have a clear advantage as they have an income stream from their machines. Vermont worked hard to get where they are and have set the example.

Thanks for the figures it puts things into perspective for me. As we all can see its the more dollars you have the higher you sit on the ladder.

Balwyn has come in and pushed the $$$$ around and you cannot beat them in a bidding war on players. Some of the money offered is unbelieveable. Evem training staff have been pinched by doubling their wage. It's just great when they fail at the final hurdle. :)

My money is on Vermont to go four in a row and to upset the dollar train of Balwyn.

Re: Northern Football League Div 1

Not everyone in EFL Div 1 has dollars. Wealthy part? That's laughable. Most have to work dam hard to get by. Three clubs have poker machine venues, Noble, Vermont, East Ringwood. Balwyn has a backer putting the dollars in for now, how long will that last who knows. The rest are working hard to be competative with sponsors donors, raffles etc.

Budget wise I will have a go at this years dollars and the final ladder will look similar.

Balwyn $440k
Noble Park $380k
East Ringwood $350k
Vermont $320k
Scoresby / Norwood / Lilydale $200k
The rest $100k - $160k

Will money win you a flag? No guarantee there but gives you a good head start.

What dollars are the top four spending in the NL? What are the bottom four?
Do you have any sources or are you pulling number out of your arse?

For a comparsion the SANFL, the stongest and richest league in the country after the AFL, have a salary cap of $340,000, do Balwyn, Noble Park and East Ringwood all spend more than SANFL clubs?

$440,000 for 18 round season works out to an average of $1,100 per player per game.

Re: Northern Football League Div 1

also..

two of there best young players will be playing vfl this yr

anthony hogan att collingwood and andrew luzza at bullants.

both finished 2nd and 3rd in seniors bnf last yr

Here is a few interesting stats for ya.

Northcote Park have (according to NFL website) had approx 55 clearences lodged already this season.

35 players have left the club with 15 of this going to / or trying to get to Fitzroy Stars in Div2.

They have also had 20 clearences in but 9 of these have been from junior feeder club Alphington.

Most surprising of the exits would have to be Joey Amad, who has a clearance pending back to Seymour (GVFL), despite his Bro, Matty Amad coaching the cougars.

Just goes to show $$$$$$ is thicker than Blood. :D

It will be interesting to see how competitive N.P will be this year, particularly as they would appear to be lacking some depth with such an exodus of players and also at least 5 of last season's U 19s serving lengthy suspensions from the G.F box on.

There is no salary cap in the EFL.

My figures would be around the mark and not out by far. The money being paid is well known in EFL club circles. Rumour was Balwyn was paying 22k a game in player payments in 2007. Ask yourself this, what would an ex AFL player want? Lets say its $1500 and they have 14 of them. We are all ready at $21k. If we said a grand a game that is still 14k with out adding another 8 players.

Hogan is training at Collingwood but so far has played all games for Northcote park.

I don't reckon Bergers spend 250k - but I don't know so I won’t say

Come on KA

6 new players let's say conservatively $ 400 a piece = $ 2,400 per week x 18 weeks (and maybe a final or 2 - but lets say they play these for free) and we have an extra $ 43,200 then add on on your alledged $99k and we have all up $ 143,000 - then we cut the Bull shit and go back to my original figure which is much more accurate and we all agree to settle on the fact Mont are paying at least $ 200k and maybe more.

Simple maths :p

Cheers

K.A

P.S - That is ridicculous K.A ( I say to myself) - as if King & McGough would only accept $ 400 a game, more like $ 400 per quarter - better take that final figure back to $ 250k

Re: Northern Football League Div 1

Intersting comment coming from a Berger perspective !:p
Always interested in benchmarking against the best KA.
Vermont and Noble Park in particular have enjoyed sustained success so it cannot simply be a case of $$$ that drives the club culture.

A.E,

You have no argument from me on that one.

Both very, very proud clubs with winning cultures and providing a club environment that people want to be a part of - money or not.

But having said that, They have endured and sustained paying big $$$ throughout but have been fortunate enough to do so due to funding through other business ventures outside of football - social /sporting/gaming clubs etc.

I can remember playing against Noble Park (circa '94-95) when they were in the Southern Football League. Even then they had a fearsome reputation for both Football ability and the massive player payments they made.

In fact in 1995, they had no less than 10 or so ex-afl players amongst their ranks including 4 Morwood brothers (Tony, Paul, Shane and I think Andrew).

It was suggested even then that they were paying circa $ 200k which is a load of coin especially back 14-15 years ago. (shit, I'm getting old)

It doesn't but its a bloody good head start. Vermont have the Wantirna Hill club, Noble have their sporting club. The dollars they can pull to help their football club is a clear advantage and with no salary cap set in place in the EFL it comes back to the more bucks you have puts you higher on the ladder.

Here is an example of a one player this year deciding on which team to play for. One club offering him good match payments, then the other club says we will match that, pay you a sign on fee, pay your Hecs, pay your car loan and rent. That's football in the EFL. :)

Re: Northern Football League Div 1

Interesting observation. Allow me to add this. NP are probably fairly lucky that a certain player there and a few of his closest footy mates (let's say 3 of them) will be playing there another year. If this players' brother was not currently living OS, then NP would have lost all 4 of them. All senior players. I did not think this would have made an impact on NP, however reading your above posts, it may well have. I shall name names when the process occurs, however it is a slight possibility that the brother may be returning during the season, however I would not expect the clearance to occur mid-season. I would expect it to occur next season.

Looker,

Would the player that is os be involved with a divvy 2 club by any chance???:)

I remember rumour around those days, Kickass of a strapping young bloke from the diamond valley who got paid "noble park dollors" to leave his beloved home club play with Oakliegh Districts. Just cant quite remember his name but apparently he COULD play.

LOL, not quite accurate Joshy. ;)

The lad you are thinking of played for Dimmies per possession. It is probably fair to say that the "kid" got a fair few possies during that that stint and he almost ran Marathon (dims sims) out of business. :p

Another rumour suggests that the same kid may well have run through an Ex-AFl legend who was coaching the Oaks at the time because he stole one of the kids Dimmies! BTW, that Ex-AFL Legend has an iconic mullet, a Mo and 2 sons currently playing at AFL clubs and another at a VFL club. I wonder who that was ?

Re: Northern Football League Div 1

Who are the best umpires that we have and will Kevin Smith be able to lift the standard of umpiring.

Re: Northern Football League Div 1

We're in for big changes if Kevin gets the NFL umps to adopt the style of umpiring used in the Eastern.

the Dodger has pulled himself away from looking at cars to finally comment on a thread he created. Welcome back Dodge, Eastern style was none too different from Bendigo style last week. Apparently however they are going back to basics, so ball up after ball up i'd imagine, very few holding the ball decisions, chopping of arms or "tunnelling".:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:
