Didn't see the game but can't believe you would blame umpires when North lost by 10 Goals (only kicking 8 for the day). Wow. Sums up the average footy supporter.

didn't say they were entirely to blame but whenever i see those two guys umpire a north game,i know it's going to be a long day.
absolutely no consitency from you umpires at all.

in both games may I add..

Heidelberg still the bench mark of the comp and should win both flags by 10 goals or more!!!!!!!!! .Remember you actually play 3 games on the weekend or have your 19's disbanded again??

Ippa, river rat was referring to your seniors and reserves both being undefeated, last time I checked your U19's were not.

Lalor were impressive at the weekend, especially that Sheppard up forward and there on ball brigade. Just didn't have the legs in the fourth...unlucky guys. Well it is monday morning and the build up for this weekend has begun, how many slabs are wagered already?

Bruce...the green looks great on you mate....

It makes perfect sense however I wouldn't expect a Montmorency person to understand. For the record I was agreeing with J&B's tips.

I got ya Rat... but that doesn't mean I'm not a Neanderthal ;)

In other news - H'Berg and Mont commitee having a bit of a get togethor on Sat to nut out a propsal for an ANZAC day clash under lights next year. Good iniaitve if the clubs can get it off the ground :thumbsu:

Had a good look at Mont on the weekend and they appear to have adequately loaded up on the talent gap they have suffered over the last few years. KING is all over the ground and has a handy back up in I think it's FITSGERALD, Sagey is just a hard running gun who kicks the ball a mile into attack and sets up a lot of inside 50 opportunities. They have a lot of forwards but if they want to beat Heidelberg they will have to develop something more than just talent. I have seen the last three grandfinals and you will need something that rhymes with grunt to beat heidelberg.
The fall out will be North to beat Bundy in the first semi
Mont to beat Tigers in the second
Tigers to beat North
And then the .....
hey I just found the raffle ticket I bought at half time at Mont Social club.
Red E8 Did I win the plasma????????:(

Ok name a decision that you are unsure about..... again it would amaze me if they had any impact on the game when you kick 3 goals in the first qtr then only 5 for the rest of the game. Did north even have the ball?

Interestingly none of the Mont faithful it would seem are prepared to back themselves. Thought at the very least condelini would’ve been the first to put his hand-up but then again ...

Regards

Boof you of all people should know that betting against Heidleberg is like burning money...3 recent flags , unbeaten premiers , 5 AFL players , guns all over the ground ....even Coach of the Year. They're the Harlem Globetrotters of the NFL....
Mont caught them underdone in round 2 and should be pretty close at half time but expecting HFC to blow the game away in the second half.
At least Mont will win the 19's...

Yellowman/Whistleblower,

Do the reserves umpires performances get looked over at all? I know they are at the bottom of our 'talent pool' (more like 'cess pit') and are just making up numbers but c'mon, some of them are an absolute disgrace. Would be better of doing it like we did at primary school and paying our own free kicks as they happen.

I felt sorry for the players of both teams during the Mont v Bundoora reserves game on Saturday. They had to put up with two of the worst umpires you will ever see. Then, after the match, the older one had a Monty Football Club top on!
The only thing the older one did right all day was not be as terrible as the younger one, which was pretty much impossible.

Where do you find them? Or do they come to you?

Is there an Umpire screening test? If so, I would love to see it.

hey drederick tatum instead of carry on about the umipires why dont u become one as every one knows they have been struggleing 4 years 2 get them

definitly put a slab on the game with you Mr. Boof, our club very much enjoyed your last one, Cheers
(a bit slow in replying, been off air for a little with modem problems)

Mate, I enjoy playing footy, if I didnt then I probably would be an umpire. I know the NFL struggles for umpires, and it's going to get worse every year, I'm just saying that the ones we have had this year are disgraceful and are getting worse by the round.

i agree the unpires are hot n cold every week and sumtimes struggle to control the game and then wonder why there where spot fires everywhere but the nfl has employed an umpires coach who apparently is really good so surely it can only get better, also i believe with abuse down this year do we think we will finally get some talent in the umpires stakes or how should we scout for umpires wat im asking is wat is the answer to problem??

This is the first year that Reserve Umpires are looked at. Kevin Smith and one other observer see 12 umpires each on a Sat. HOWEVER there is no
Consequences for bad umpiring in reserves.
There is this misconception amongst footy fans that if you umpire badly you move to juniors. Wrong. If you umpire poorly in A Grade you may get dropped but in the other grades if you umpire poorly... nothing happens. We don't have enough umpires to be de-listing umpires.
Where do they come from? Well some ex-players, some off the street, some respond to advertising in the DV News or through the website. They are not screen tested. If they are young, they umpire u/10's and we see how they go. However if they are older they are put in B grade or C grade and we see what happens. Basically the only protected grade is ‘A’ grade. However we are so short at the moment you will find that even Div 2 ‘A’ Grade are getting bad umpires.
You mention doing your own games as clubs.... the league were very close in doing this late last year because we were so short. Maybe some ex-players would be interested in umpiring. Some of our best umpires were players.

Putting aside the argument umpires are not being paid enough to attract a healthy size pool (no disrespect), I believe the number one key performance criteria of an umpire, at this point in time, should be positioning.

From the limited games I see it is generally because of the position in play of the field umpire(s) that directly contributes to poor decisions creating frustration amongst the players and dissatisfaction amongst the supporters.

Perhaps umpires could be videoed, a whole game is not necessary, for training purposes regarding this issue. Please let it be or can someone at least advise as to what proactive measures are being taken to negate this issue.

Regards
