Off the top of my head 88-67. Heidelberg were definitely 4 goals short at the end. The officials took the scores down from the scoreboard very quickly after the game.

As for the match this was not the same West Preston I saw at Heidelberg a few months ago, or at Cramer St two weeks ago. Full credit to them though.

West Preston outstanding in the second half, 2 goals to 8 after half time tells the story, fantastic win for the club and a great result for the league and footy in general. :thumbsu:

Fantastic day for ther NFL in general :)

End of an era at the Berg??

Dawn of a new era in local footy ?

the two biggest upsets in loacl footy i have seen >
  1. W/P vs Mont @ epping year ?? = Bloody great.
  2. WPL vs hberg @ cramer st 2010 = Bloody brilliant.
and for 2011 > put ya hard earned on the Mighty Panthers :)

sucked in to all u heidelberg supporters thats what u get for being cocky 2005 all over just a different side that beat u

Well done to the Roosters on a monumental victory. A good club run by good people and the best team won on the day. Had us covered in all areas pretty much but the Tiger lives to fight another day. Shattered to have dropped our first game to them in 7 years, particularly in a Grand Final but sh*t happens. Looking back 5 out of 7 was not a bad effort in the grand scheme of things and if anyone was going to knock us off I'm glad it was West Preston. Well done to Vinnie also, just reward for a bloke who should have won one with the Bulls. Over and out

Yeah, congratulations to West Preston. Certainly a mirror image repeat of 2003 when the Roosters/Lakies defied the odds to turn a 2nd semi loss into a premiership. And the team they beat that year ? Montmorency ! Only other teams to turn this trick in the last decade were Nth Heid (vs Heid) in 2005 and Heid (vs Bund) in 2006.
Certainly don't think it's the end of an era for the Tigers, as injuries today also played a part in the loss. But in the end it's good for football in that some of the other teams/clubs are shown that there is hope.
Have a great summer.

... WP the darkhorse.

A reason that will remain private was behind that post. Tried to demonstrate it but we're all deluded to varying degrees. Anyway, the Berg had a crack just not good enough on the day. Well done WP. They had a solid spread of contributors all day. Special mention for Vinnie. Came over after the game and shook hands with pretty much who's who in the zoo.

Not looking for anyone to be making excuses but just wondering how Heidelberg supporters think the absence of Justin Murphy from thier side affected them ?

Why do idiots like barfly feel the need to post a reply ?
My question was to Heidelnerg supporters and I quite clearly stated that I wasn't asking anyone to make excuses.
Its a simple question i put and I am not seeking the opinions of morons like barfly.

Evening.....morning.. what ever !!

Just recovered from a bad dose of indigestion chiefly caused by a large helping of humble pie with a healthy side serving of crow.

West's triumph the best example of "punching above your weight" since David took down Goliath in that biblical classic a few years back. All power to the Roosters and Vinnie. A game plan well executed - chip, hold the ball up until the lead up targets present, all backed up with some of the most relentless overlap running witnessed.

Crosisca stuck to his principals like he has done all year. We all know Murphy would have made a difference but at the end of the day he never came into consideration. personally i think the loss of favrin the week before was the biggest blow as he had played every game and was probably having his best season to date.

Tough day at the office for the berger's, losing two players in the first 5 minutes and having virtually no bench by half time. west to their credit smelt blood and when the champion had thrown its last punch went in for the kill. it also appeared to me there were a couple of players, finn, williams, who were carrying injuries into the game. not a good thing to have going into a grand final so perhaps heidelberg's team selection may come under some scrutiny.

Overall it was not a bad effort considering 10 players were lost from the 09 premiership side but as it turns out it was 10 players too many.

Hi. I don't follow the league but went to the game due to knowing a couple of Heidelberg players and it was honestly one of the most impressive things I've ever seen in footy.
Firstly-outstanding coaching I thought.
I know the Heidelberg reputation and I must say what I seen in the first 40 min justified the hype ,some terrific players who play a great brand of footy.
You sensed halfway through the second that they were starting to tread water a bit,and if wests were up for it,a huge upset was there for the taking.
And that for me was the outstanding part. We all know Heidelberg were decimated and would lack run,but it's one thing to know it and another to do it,and the coach and his players set about rotating the bench and running Heidelberg to an absolute standstill with some breathtaking running footy.
Honestly one of the more enjoyable games of footy I've seen at any level.
Well done to both sides as I thought heidelberg had a handfull of blokes who ran themselves to a standstill against a wave of runners.
Great game.

Fair call Rodney Dangerfield,

I'm somebody who has seen a bit of the NFL & H'berg over the years. Admittedly - mostly through misted beer goggles, but yes I have seen it!

I think your comments are mostly right, but i.M.O the point you make about H'berg treading water halfway through the Q2 I think is a little wrong.

In fact, Halfway through Q2, H'berg started to gain supremecy, and I had the impression that Bergers were only a Denny Crane's penis away from smashing open the Floodgates. And it was only the determination, bravery and continually well executed game plan of the roosters that did not allow that to happen.

WPL fought tooth 'n' nail during that quarter, with relentless tackling, running defending and marking and were very Lucky to be still in it at half time.

What was noticiable, is that a number of heidelberg players at times took the easy option / coasted & yes as you say treaded water, with what some might say was either arrogance or perhaps complacency.

They were, especially in 3rd Q which turned out to be the proverbial premiership quarter, waiting for somebody else to spark them into action,; but that spark never ever came.

Full credos to all of WPL & V.D. I can't say I have been one of Vinnies Fan club members over the years, but this time he got absolutely everything spot on. Even his tears at 3qt seemingly were exactly what the fairy tale script had ordered and were enough to pick his players up on the emotional wave to victory.

One last thing, Good Ol' Oxy mentioned that in his opinion, that the Tiges took in a couple of injury ridden players in Finn & Williams.

What about Franger??? Surely he wasn't fit going into the game. Lasted all of 75 seconds with a what appeared to be calf that on all accounts he was carrying for the past 3 weeks.

Perhaps it was not so much a fault of the selection commitee to get the team right, but rather certain individuals putting opportunity for personal glory ahead of Team achievement???

Yeah I know what you're saying kickass but I remember thinking at some point in the second that Heidelberg just weren't getting it done on the scoreboard and were looking vulnerable. Perhaps it was late in the term, but definately at half time I felt they may be in trouble.
And you're dead right about blokes coasting, not that they weren't trying but you sensed they had another gear but weren't prepared to do it,whilst wests were desperate and once they gained momentum looked unstoppable.
Great win no doubt, but I'm not sure about this end of an era talk. From what I seen if they inject a little pace they will be as good as ever.
The standard was excellent and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

great to see heidelberg choke at the big dance again maybe next year they can spend $800,000 instead of $400,000 to win a flag in local footy what a bunch of losers :thumbsu:

Ah yes - inevitably the cyber warriors appear.

Just received word that as from 2011 the Federal Government will be shipping the mentally challenged off shore. It brought a tear to my eye at the thought of losing you all.

Be strong, wear your helmet............and don't forget to pack your crayons.

Choke again.....hmmmmm.....4 premierships in a row.....I tilt my hat to Heidelberg for their total domination of the NFL for past 4-5 years.

I best the club you follow wouldn't knock back contacts with sponsorships and networking agreements that the powers at Heidelberg have.

You are obviously a spanner
