Re: Northern Football League Division 2

well most dv clubs have reputations from 20 year ago.

the stars haven't been in a comp since nmfl folded in early 90's, so how would you have heard that nothing as changed much since?

i ain't a big tough internet thug and have never claimed that, your the little sook saying it not me.

i am sure if these so called people are talking about the stars reputation from 20-30 year ago, wouldn't have been angels either.

no wonder the nfl has dropped in standards over the years, with little ****s like yaself running around.

i am sure that it will be interesting when the stars play your team then. i bet that your heartstring will go on the morning of the match.

like i said go and play with the amateurs, because the nfl ain't for you, you little pansie.

Im not saying its just from 20 years ago, the reputation has been built from then and on up until now, im not sooking if you could read, im just going by what i know, and trying to understand more about the club, and if you are from the stars, its good to see that i am right with what i have been told, im not sooking nor scared of you, and you say nfl has dropped its standards, considering its one of the best leagues going around. and your club wants to come into it. Keep using ur profanity, if you know what that means...? But all i was doing was opening up a conversation about the Stars, and trying to find out more about them, because i have heard the bad stuff, was just wondering what the club could bring to NFL. But you have proved that what i have heard is correct. Thank you, i will not say anymore. Good luck next season.

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

The clubs will vote in Jan so we will know then. I hope they get in. Dont like bye's and I think a 3rd Div is a good idea.
Better to win games a play finals in 3rd Div than get you backside kicked every week in 2nd Div and finish down the bottom.

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

Fitzroy Stars in the old MNFL were a well run club when Jock Austin was in charge. When Jock passed away, the club continued on ,a alot of good players placed there with a sprinkling of ex afl players coming over. Their games were played in a good spirit, and some tough encounters were played out. Games like Heidelberg Colts and Stars always attracted plenty of spectators. These game were played hard, and when it over, they all went for a drink and a chat, unlike some of the higher clubs in the NFL.

Yes there were a few hot heads around, but there were never any riots, behind the play incidents, players belting spectators, or spectators jumping on the ground to crown some one, no umpires being struck. Football was played the way it should have been, back in those days, tough, hard and fair.

I think that when people out there hear Fitzroy Stars, they only think in a negative way, dont we want the League to get stronger, havn't we had enough crap over the years, cant we see that this is a new era and anything that will better the comp, should be taken into account.
Stars are not like Nortcote Park under 19's, they are an untried club that only need a break, why dont we give them that break and judge them on their ability and not on scear mongering from those who know jack shit about what they are talking about.

PS, I am not affiliated with the Stars. :thumbsu:

Totally agree, bring on Fitzroy !

Does anyone know if they would have a completely new jumper
or sticking with the Black, Red & Yellow ? I'd wouldn't mind
seeing them in a Adelaide Crows jumper.....

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

Good luck to the Fitzroy Stars if they can get into the NFL. I hope it sorts out a few bad apples that follow the league and think it is "cool" and tough to racially abuse opposition players from behind the fence.

Fawkner Park had a couple players racially villified in the 2006 season. One player actually quit the game.

Hopefully the league has and will continue to enforce, thru the clubs, expectations of supporters and players.

Fawkner Park was also known as a tough club from yesteryear but surely not too many teams were scared to play a team that had an average height of 5 ft in the last couple of years.

Anyway if the Stars get it all right both on and off the field they will become a real force to be reckoned with.

Good luck

and thank you trilogy_1

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

No Problems, just want to see that Stars get a fair go. As stated before, I had seen them years ago, did not see any problems, had some great times down at Doug Nichols Reserve, did see some very talented players though.

Good luck with your endeavours, and we all hope to see you running around in 2008 :thumbsu:

Cheers, their is a report in the local paper/Preston Leader about what's stage the NFL are at and what they intend to do, in Jan 08 (Stars on standby in the NFL). If we get in it's going to be an historical acheivement, for our community, it's what we need, i'm sure the old days are past us, a lot of the players and committee people have already said that we will not tolerate that type of behaviour. It's appreciated, on support and comments.

We will be sticking to the Red, Black and Yellow. I have designed a jumper in which we used at this years VAYSAR State-wide carnival which we will most likely use in the NFL.

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

will the stars be able to find enough players? what has the interest been like for players sponsors and volunteers? will they attempt to field juniors in the future?

We beleive will be able to find the players and sponsors...We have many volunteers who are ready to help give their times...The Fitzroy Stars will be a big part of the Aboriginal community and there will be alot of people willing to help out...We have not decided what we will do about Juniors at this present time as we will be focusing on the Seniors for the time being...But eventualy im sure we will have some kind of junior structure

F.S. - I posted on a much earlier post that a lot of the young aboriginal boys, and families have either spread far and thin across the metro leagues, or just stopped playing and supporting. I know of several at B'Wick and Nth Heid for starters. 2 things - are you expecting to have these kind of youthful players at the stars, and 2ndly - I know my tip for the senior coaching gig down there. Who is yours?

We had a good 15 - 20 young players that have either trained with us or have given us the nod that they will start training after the christmas break, Im also aware of players who have signed at other clubs who we'd love to have, with that said we are just starting off and if they decide to join us down the track it will be great.

The coaching possition hasnt been advertised as yet. But to be honest im not sure who is around at the moment.

Fitzroy Stars.....

Not sure if the first jumper on the below site is the jumper you are referring to. The traditional Fitzroy - FFC jumper in Red/Yellow/Black.

Has any discussion been made with the NFL or other clubs about the possible clashes associated if this is the jumper. Very similar to Parkside with the mostly red jumper. I think Lalor and Parkside required clash jumpers this season. Another possible clash with South Morang who wear the current Brisbane Lions style jumper, and maybe, but not so much - Lower Plenty.

If the below is not the jumper, Any chance of attaching a link or picture for those of us that are curious.

The web page I am referring to.....

That was one we considered. But we have moved on from the past and are here to create history with a new look by using the jumper with the Southern Cross on it.

From what I've heard Fawkner Park was having a lot of internal troubles in 2006 as well that wasn't helped by the former admin of the DVFL. I think if we hadn't merged with the lowly EDFL Club North Coburg(1 reserves premiership in 60 years) we would have come back into the NFL maybe not challenging for finals in our first or second years. But I'd like to think with the right guidance and commitment Fawkner(we had decided to drop the park)would have at least been competitive enough and seeking for a bit of respect.
