NRL vs AFL emotion

Well, that's just ridiculous. If they aren't going to be presented with their medals, then they may as well leave the ground!!!

At least if they get their medals they are a part of the presentation, instead of just being ignored and having to sit there and watch.
As I said, they used to once, but the loser's are just too crushed and at the time the medal feels meaningless becuae ethey didn't win. So they decidied not to put the losing team through it on the ground itself. You can even tell how little the Norm Smith meant to Nathan Buckley in 2002, he just didn't want to know about it, too crushed by the disappointment. Just abruptly took it straight off. Peter Moore threw his into the crowd after the 1981 GF.

I'd so both sports are equally as passionate after a GF in their own way, due to that being the number 1 achievement in AR & RL. So for those who say RL isn't passionate or not as passionate as the AFL, you're biased or you're kidding yourself.

And if the NRL Grand Final was also screened LIVE across the the nation you might have a point, but it wasn't and you don't.
Just for your information as you seem interested it isnt shown all around the nation because apart from NSW / QLD it dosent rate as a national sport.

Something else you might like to note is that the RL GF only out rated the AFL GF in Sydney by 20,000 odd. How do explain that?considering the AFL is on a sat arvo when a huge amount of people are doing other things instead of watching TV.

You'll find you're laughing at no-one. Well you shouldn't be. All sport has passion and emotion, even golf somehow...... This thread was silly in the first place. The Swans showed alot of excitement and emotion at the end of the AFL grand final and it was more spontaneous than the Tigers win as the game was still in the balance. The fact that no-one knew when the siren was gonna go adds alot of excitement and celebration when it does go.

Look mate I totally agree, my post was directed to people like the **************** who started this thread who have NFI. What a stupid thread.

Interesting to see last night that by the time the presentations took place and the lap of honour the ground had already substantially emptied out. It was a similar story when I went to a grand final a couple of years ago, and by the time the lap of honour started the ground had already emptied out to less than half capacity.
Possibly that's a result of the night grand final and a rush to get the bus home, but it's a contrast to the AFL grand final where hardly anyone leaves before the cup is presented.

How many were actually at the game?? Anyone know?

Two things that stuffed thugby. SuperLeague and fingering someone's A-hole in a tackle. That didn't do the sport any favours.

Ouch!!!!

You idiot. It's pretty obvious on an AFL board that most people would agree with you.

AFL seems more passionate than RL due to the way supporters and players act and celebrate, but that's not to say there's no passion. When an RL team wins in Sydney, you'll hear about it for a couple of days then it's business as usual. In an AFL win in Victoria, you'll hear people bragging about their win all year.

You could sum it up as AFL emotion > NRL emotion, but that's not neccessarily denigrating the passion shown in RL, because it's still there. BTW, one thing they need to scrap is mid-season contract negotiations for players to move to other clubs. At Storm games last year, Kirk Reynoldson was getting booed (and he was still playing for them!)

Acutually I noticed two RL guys getting quite emotionally high watching the NRL GF . One said to the other "I'm going home now and rip off the wife's undies ". The other guy replied "good on ya mate" .
Then the first guy said "yeah , the elastic' s killing me" .

Mate you are dead set kidding yourself if you think the place emptied out. I was there and the emotion and noise was unbelievable, probably 80% of the crowd was in black and gold. TV doesn't pick up the atmosphere but I had to yell to speak to the person next to me, when the crowd started chanting Tigers, Tigers (which they did throughout the game) you couldn't help but be swept up in the emotion of it. When the "Eye of the Tiger" was played the ground erupted. I thought last year's Bulldogs crowd was loud but the Tigers fans were on another level.

Nah, not much emotion

Yeah, the Wests Tigers bandwagoners jumped up for a try. That doesn't mean they made any noise for the rest of the time, does it?

It was shocking last night. I was wandering around Darlinghurst 30 min after the GF finished and there were already Tiger fans who had come from the game walking around trying to look important. Ie the game finished and they didn't even watch the victory lap!

One typical Wests Tigers nong where I was watching the game in Bondi Junction was seen walking home in his jumper 10 minutes after they won the match. What passion, NOT! So we 'celebrated' by showering him in a celebratory beer shower from the balcony above.

Rugby players only play for money. Thus the lack of emotion.

What a crock of ********.

The rugby player be it league or union has the same goals and resons for playing as the AR player. Some of the emotion during league grand finals over the years have been fantastic ie. Newcastle, Roosters.

Y2eel, look at this!

West Tigers (NRL Premiers, 2005)
Players from Previous Clubs: 19
Percentage of Players from Previous Clubs: 61.3%

Sydney Swans (AFL Premiers, 2005)
Players from Previous Clubs: 9
Percentage of Players from Previous Clubs: 19.1%

Difference
10 players
42.2%

I think that justifies the point...so...

Do you even have a clue???

How many Swans juniors are there in the current line-up? Players from the local area?

you're right... the possibility of 3 brands of football - league union soccer - utilising the stadium was a major factor in it getting the go ahead.... but the major tenant from day 1 will be the melbourne storm.

Union is no chance of using the ground. Australia will never get another Super ??? team.

Tea Gardens hey.

It's been a big two weeks for bandwagoners in Sydney.

Not everyone celebrates in the same way.

Some people get contentment from seeing their club win a premiership. Some people carry on like theyve solved world hunger. Some people just carry on with life.

Passion doesnt mean you have to guzzle beer until you vomit it out of your nose, or run around crazy waving flags and scarfs and jumpers, or getting pyssed for 48 hours and having no recollection of what happened, or running in front of cars or pouring beer over people or pyssing off balconies etc etc.

Maybe the West Tigers supporter just wanted to go home, watch a replay of the game, see his family, have a pull, go to work, no money left, whatever.

Does that make him less passionate about his club?

watching on tv this year's grand final seemed a bit flat but that could be the stadium.

if you want passion and emotion you should have watched last weeks semi final between tigers/dragons at the sfs........without doubt the most intense and passionate sporting event i ever seen, bar none!!!

i only watched on telli but you could feel the atmosphere coming out the screen, incredible.

the NRL GF gets that type of audience every year. the AFL GF gets that type of audience once in a blue moon when the Swans are playing.

I didnt find the NRL final boring. In fact it was relitively interesting. I guess you cant compare it to AFL but the thing I noticed was the difference in emotion. When Sydney won the energy was popping out of the TV screen.

I thought some of the Balmain Tigers would rather have been somewhere else

They are called the Wests Tigers for starters.

Coming from someone who was standing outside Balmain Leagues Club at 1am yesterday morning when the players finally made their appearance with the trophy ... They were as emotional and on top of the world as any AFL player who had just won the premiership would have been.

So emotional they actually left the trophy sitting outside the club when they went back in!!! LMAO

We know that, but a million people watching, on a Saturday afternoon, does indicate the Swans are really starting to kick in in NSW.

Even thought 350-400,000 was pretty good in Brisbane.....as was 514,000 for the NRL in Melbourne, even if it was in prime time.

it helps when you win... but i still think its more to do with AFL grassroots investment and less to do with 1 mil grand final viewers.
