Umpires should be DEAF to anything that is said off the ground. People pay their cash to play/watch/support and gob off at both teams, not see the umps try any make themselves more important than the game itself.
Correct. Generally, most umpires are immune to whatever is said over the fence or just treat it as white noise, another aspect of how much concentration is required for umpiring. Walking off the ground after the final siren is a different story and may hear something untoward, but at the end of the day, 99% of the crowd are either
- nothing
or
- Will have no influence on the game ever.
It's been in our game for 120 years and I doubt it will ever stop.

Good on him and good on the Stratty lads for sticking together.
Would be good for the league to see them on the improve.

And your basing this on what? Reading the best players in the paper? If you are well don't, as Hider was that far best on ground on the weekend (out of ten he was nine, tollner was a five or six and got tagged) Hider didn't get in the best. I was of the opinion of you about Tollner winning after reading the best players (as he is in every week) but after talking to a few Sale City people they have informed that they have a different system to name there best players and that Hider has had a better year in there opinion. Make of this as you will.

The best are usually according to the awards given out which is predominately done by the coach.
I would find it funny if a coach awarded himself with awards... Hence Hider not appearing in the best.

Does anyone know when Heyfield last missed the finals? Nothing certain but its a fair chance of happening this year.

Maybe mid to early 90's don't think we have missed after the four in a row. That is a big maybe though. As Heyfield played in a heap of losing grand finals late eighties early nineties.

Just when you think things are working themselves out, bang! Massive wins for Gormy and Heyfield on the weekend and Stratty on the board, full credit to the Swans as I dont think many teams win after losing by 30 goals the week before. Thank the good Lord for Leigh McDonald, without him I would have been posting about Woodside upsetting Churchill!
City at Gaskin Park this week will be a very interesting game, double chance on the line for the Cougars and pride after massacre early in the year and now top spot maybe slipping from the grasp of the Bulldogs.

Does anyone know if Jacob Schuback got reported on the weekend. He almost decapitated a goal umpire from about 3 metres out, then had words with the field umpire who had the book out and appeared to be reporting him. Not sure what the charge would have been though?

Can you give us a rundown on the game pumpter, I heard Treasey was on fire on the field and was giving it to a few people off it.
Never forget last year in the prelim final at three quater time when we were down by seven goals, when he walked past the Heyfield huddle and yelled out bye bye heyfield.....no need to say what happened afterwards.

The umpires on the day where bloody pathetic!! The female umpire is a disgrace and needs to go back to under 14's.
A top of the ladder clash ruined by trivial and childish umpiring.
Nothing worse then watching pathetic umpires trying to be bigger then the game.
Here's a thought. Shut your bloody mouths and let men play decent and solid football, no one wants to hear the bulls**t that comes out of your mouth everytime you blow the whistle for trivial and incorrect decisions, dont try to justify your shit decisions just shut the hell up. YOU GOT IT WRONG!! ALL DAY!!
As for the goal umpire that reported Schuey. Get real. How bout you lose some weight so you can get out of the bloody way when a bloke runs inside the goal square to kick a goal. It missed you FFS!!
Got some news for ya einstein, if the bloke can slot one through at etihad from 60 out im pretty sure he could kick it straight into your fat guts from 5 out. Another w***er umpire that thinks he's bigger then the game.

Bringing the game into disrepute, I think that is all you could possibly get reported for kicking the ball at an umpire, attempted or not. As pumpter said it nearly decapitated the umpire so must have been close. Don't know wasn't there and frankly don't care.
I think Jodie is quite a good umpire. I am sure that she must have had a bad day. Like the rest of us players, coaches and officials we all make and have bad mistakes. I also like umpires justifying there decisions, Shane Kinder did on the weekend and obviously from his angle he saw what he saw and we were fine with that.
Constant bagging of the umpires doesn't help anyone. I like everyone else do become mystifed by some decsions but you move on from it.
Also I am pretty sure that Daniel Trease ruined the top of the table clash and not the umpires.

Treasie is a very good footballer but not really well liked by opposition fans, seems to carry on a bit and gives that little bit of ammo for teams next time out.
