Channel 9 showed hockey for 5 minutes last night at 12:30am:mad:

pricks

i waited up till 12.25 to watch fat head eddie mcguire waffle on about everything else then i said stuff it theres no time left for it and went to bed...

Oh wow, they DID end up showing some hockey ... not really surprised it was only 5 mins though ... typical winter olympics coverage ... it's more the time slot then the amount of coverage it got that is annoying ... in a 3 hr show with so many other sports occurring, it's hard to show any decent amount of hockey

And to think when Mick Molloy was doing his segment, him and Ed were talking it up somewhat. Did anyone else watch that bit, where Mick did the hockey bit?

Only hope we got of seeing a decent amount of hockey is on the last day when the men's gold medal game is on ... it's the only sport on that day besides the cross country skiing ... but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't show any of it either

I saw Mick's hockey skit, it was alright. What I don't understand that it is a topic of conversation regularly by Eddie - he acknowledges it is one of the premier competition/event of these Olympics yet the day wrap up gets bumped to 12:30am ahead of only curling. They only showed about 5 goals (not all of them) from two games - USA v SUI, CAN v NOR.

Also I would of thought it would be a good format choice to follow Mick Molloy's segment with the hockey highlight but programme format consistency is probably too much to ask from Channel 9.

I felt sorry for the Norwegian goalie against Canada yesterday, especially on that shot by Heatley where he unleashed a pinpoint shot in the top corner from behind a screen. He isn't that good to begin with and you fire a howitzer at him that Luongo down the other end would have struggled to stop.

Exactly right!! :thumbsu:

I also remember just before a commercial break, Ed said something like 'there will be more powerplays after the break' and I thought that was a hint that the next segment after the commercials would show some hockey...ha! instead they showed figure skating

And if they are going to only show 5 minute highlights at 12.30, I would rather just watch the highlights on the net.

I missed the Czech-Slovakia game so anyone got a recommendation on where to catch the highlights? NBC nor CTV will let me watch the highlights on their websites.

l saw Finland this morning and was impressed. They haven't got anywhere near the top end skill of Canada or Russia, but gosh they've got some chemistry. And they have some grit with their skilled guys, which will work on the smaller ice.

Their D looks a little light on, but their more than capable of medalling with their goaltending and forward corps.

Watching Sweden right now, Krupp is a genius and bringing the game on the Germans terms, but sheesh, the Swedes forwards almost rival Canada and Russia - Forsberg with Zetterberg, Alfredsson with Backstrom, the Sedins, then Franzen on a fourth line.

Plus Kronwall is hitting everything that moves. Sweden aren't scoring on Greiss much, but its like the announcer said, its how you finish the tournemant, not start it.

The 5 big 7 teams I've seen so far are playing very good hockey, and the hype over this tournemant has been justified, its all-star hockey.

But like I said before, if anyone has a way of me catching the Czech-Slovakia game, or highlights, that'd be awesome. Foxtel showed the game while I was working and there will be no replay of it, unlike if it was a Canada in the curling, which gets replayed all night seemingly.

Oh, and Foppa looks awesome. And even though he is a hated Red Wing, I am a massive Zetterberg fan, so watching that line gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

But Foppa, he's back! What a legend.

I'm reallllllly tired so I'll keep it short.

Russia's offence is scary, defence gave up too many chances against Latvia but can anyone stop that ridiculous offence? IMO, no.

Sweden looked a bit mediocre today but Germany were very good. Hard to see many goals being scored against Sweden though.

Finland, I'm biased because I'm supporting them, were very impressive, as you mentioned jimmy, chemistry is the name of the game for the Finns. They possibly looked like the most cohesive unit of the lot. Filppula had a great game today which I was pleased about! Good signs for them.

US has big potential, lots of youth, plenty of talent, I think they've got the ability to knock off Canada in their pool. Would obviously take a MASSIVE effort to do so but I believe!

Canada, freakishly deep, just look at their 4th line to see how deep they are.

Czech Republic very good, tonight's game vs Slovakia was brilliant, especially the first period before PP's started to take over and ruin the flow. Jagr's still got it.

I really rate Sweden, their the defending champs, and are being touted as an "off the radar" team that could challenge the canadiens and russians..

Give a quality team like that absolutley no pressure, cant wait to see what they can do..

and foppa playing with zetterberg:eek:

Loui eriksson from the stars is one of my favourite players because hes quite low profile and unassuming, hope he can really put his name up in lights this tournament..spewing its on Monday and not Sunday

looking at the box score of the american and norway game, again the yanks are getting the job done, but not dominating..cant wait to see how the kids will go against Canada...

They have two lines of offence that can worry a team like Canada, who have the best D-Corps out there and of course high quality goal tending. Canada also have 4 lines that can roll out of high quality.

Finns were very disappointing and I don't see them getting close to a medal, they just don't have enough talent up front to take on Canada, Sweden or Russia.

Sick of Foxtel a bit. I have to try and avoid finding out the scores in the USA and Canada games because theyre replayed later. Canada game is three hours delayed, but the USA game is on at like 5:30, the same time they're showing the Slovakia-Russia game.

Surely they could chuck them on live, or as close to. I thought this was the whole point of four channels. But theyre in TV, I'm not, so perhaps they know best.

Just had a look at Monday, it's crazy. Canada vs USA at 11:40, live, then Russia vs Czech Republic at 2.50, overlapping with Sweden v Finland at 4:00, live.

Big day.

Its quite hard because they have events coming in and out. 3 Channels will have live stuff on them, the fourth I'm not sure what it has on it. Bit of annoyance but for the later rounds it wont be so bad.

Argh!

Tried to avoid hearing the Canada-Switzerland score, sit down to watch it on ye Foxtel, and bang, mate sends me a msg saying it went to a shootout and Canada won.

Argh. Great game of hockey ruined. I'm gonna have to block the world out for the later games of the tournemant if Foxtel don't show the games live.

... At least I know it's going to be a good game to watch, and not an 8-0 win for the Maple Leaf.

For those who saw the Canadian game today, would we all agree that if it was the USA and not the Swiss Canada would've lost the game?

Bodes for an interesting game Monday. Miller can replicate Hiller, the USA have the grit and mental application to replicate the Swiss forecheck, but the Americans have miles better hands around the net, they possess some awesome shots. There's at least a goal or two more in the USA lineup compared to Team Switzerland.

This Gold Medal is anyones. And don't disregard the USA. A few of us, me included, stressed the importance on goaltending; goaltending may win the tournemant - Hiller showed it today. Ryan Miller is the hottest goalie in this comp. Advantage Americans.

Hiller played his usual "I have no ****ing idea what is going on, I'm just standing here" game. Majority of his saves he has no idea where the puck is and it manages to hit him. I've never seen such a lucky goalie when it comes to big games. That save on Crosby in the shootout, he looked the other way and just slid hoping he'd make the save.

Toews and Keith have been poor, Pronger was terrible tonight and Doughty had a mistake he won't forget. Crosby needs to shoot the puck more.

Mate I hear you. Same freaking thing happened.

US/Norway game on at 5:15, I tried to avoid the score, found out during the Canada game, to be expected I guess but still freaking annoying.

I hate finding out results before having a chanCe to watch them. I'm like you mate, it absolutely ruins the suspense. The Canada game was amazing, truly amazing, but partially ruined because I knew what would happen.

I really wish Foxtel would show these games live. They scheduled to show the US game live in the book, didn't happen. Their hockey coverage started out terrific but is slipping.

RUSSIA/SLOVAKIA CURRENTLY ON FOX.

That's because the Winter Olympics is full of events that can get delayed and postponed. The only reason the US v SUI game was down live the other day was due to the postponement of the Womens Downhill. Then due to the delay in the snowboard and their prior commitment on another channel to show something else live, they switched around and ended up with it being delayed later on. Today they didn't really have the chance to show the hockey live, apart from maybe bumping Curling.

Lucky I turned the Olympics back on in the background, they're showing the Russia-Slovaka game live instead of exactly when the USA-Norway game is.

So much for forward planning my hockey viewing, I'm just gonna have to wing it I think.

Good thing is that tomorrow's three games are being advertised as live (at the moment), so no more of what me and Drummond suffered today.
