Not quite, really good solid player - but Rivers is in exactly the same boat.
I find Riv is incredibly underrated by those outside of Melbourne, probably not unlike Dempster!

Dempster is in unbeleivable form, I like Rivers but if you gave me a choice at the moment, I'd certainly take Dempster, very very underrated defender.

I have absolutely no idea why he has not been discussed as a potential trade target. He is the right age for us (27) and we have the cap space and draft picks to make a massive play at him.
He can fill any role (forward, mid or back) and has genuine leadership and class about him. I would be very annoyed if he is not in our sights to be perfectly honest.
Interested to hear my fellow dees fans opinions on picking up Goddard.

Excellent player no doubt, but I think IF he leaves st kilda it will either be for his last big contract or to a team who can win a flag, we can pay a bit but perhaps not as much as others. He will stay at st kilda IMO though. Also i dont think trade is an issue, he'd be unrestricted free agent?

no way I'd even consider swapping Riv for Dempster.. Riv is so massively underrated it's rediculous.. he reads the play better than Dempster, is a better mark and honestly I think he kicks the ball better as well.. been massively unlucky to have spent so much time forward, would have seriously challenged Jones for the b&f otherwise in my opinion

Goddard could certainly be a great fit for us.. would give serious class and leadership and at only 27 is in a great age bracket.. could easy be a player to play well into his 30's.. is a free agent and honestly I believe he is the best prospect for us

I get the feeling that he 'has not been discussed' because Travis Cloke has been the talk of the town, and Melbourne's bid (on Cloke) is designed as a decoy for another big name... this being Brendan Goddard.
Agree, I think he would be a good fit and give us a little more experience. He should still have a fair of football left in him, would like to see us have a genuine go at securing him....not to mention no more tagging from McKenzie if he came across.
Dempster has more intercept marks, marks and better disposal efficiency than Rivers

Rivers has played up forward for over half the season.
Regardless he's never had as many marks in a season as Dempster has had this season, I cbf looking up the other stats though

Rivers averages more marks a game then him (4.9 vs 3.9) and has taken 189 more marks then dempster yet only played 9 more games then him.
