People are saying we hold the upper hand because he will just retire if Suns don't accept a third round pick. Wouldn't the Suns rather him retire than him go to an opposition team for a pick they probably won't use?

Its not just about the pick... its about moving him on and creating cap room , conversely , if he stays there but doesn't play , even if he doesn't get paid.. his wage will be in their cap. Retirement is just one way to go.. he may be mentally drained and need time off the game.. who knows what the technical reasons would be..and then it gets ugly for GC. Personally Id much rather cut the cord , create cap room and chase someone who wants to be up there.

I didn't realise his wage stayed in their cap if he retired. That makes more sense now. Cheers

It was last stated when Buddy signed for years and years... that a players contract must stay in for its contracted length. Imagine the backending that could happen if it was not the case. Personally I doubt he will retire..if no trade is arranged I doubt he totally walks away from 800G

Correct, and it's been going on for years. I can still readily recollect the SJ/Baker fracas which ended-up with injuries to both and weeks to both. That could have been nipped in the bud before the first bounce when Baker started whacking SJs recently broken hand. The ump was 10 metres away and did squat. Had he blown the whistle, given SJ a free and told Baker that will be the consequence all day if he continued it would have stopped then and there.
This is the most annoying thing about this. The umpires continually make mistakes or judgement errors, but they simply get it covered up every time by the head of their department. A lot of issues wouldn't even get to a suspension, MRP or tribunal stage if the umpires can just apply the simplest penalty on the day - the warning that escalates into a free kick. But the umpires literally ignore or avoid things that are getting out of hand and just act like they only adjudicate the game itself, not things that are against the spirit of the game.

Agreed 100%. He won't retire if there is no deal to the Cats, he went for money to GCFC, so I doubt he'll walk away from that money.

I can't see the trade happening.

According to Campbell Brown, GAJ's Gold Coast house is up for sale.
It's an old story dating back to January which included "it is understood he is looking to downsize from his 3342sq m residence but plans to remain on the Coast." How much truth there is in that bit, who knows.

The umpires have been incredibly weak over this scragging of players off the ball. Penalize the perpetrators ...add a couple of 50 metre penalties resulting in a few goals and watch the practice stop pretty quickly.

It used to be the players who dealt with this type of scragging, but the "sanitizing" of the game now means we have to rely on the umpires to step in and stop this practice. Not an ideal scenario....but if we want to see it eradicated I don't see any alternative.
Hawkins for example

Didn't Brown Paparazzi Ablett about something a few years back? And Ablett reacted angrily?

Will be interesting to see if a shitfight arises.

GAblett has only one house on the Gold Coast. If id earned his money ..id have more than one house. Really one might as well say GA bought a house in Sydney ... if thats where he think house prices will appreciate , why not. I mean he could rent and not buy to live in..If he owns the house he sleeps in , means little in relation to the club he plays for.

Heard that quite a bit of his income had been used to setup his family members financially/ houses etc.

Ablett is already a done deal
Coming back and the Suns are getting 800k cap space freed up. Geelong will take Abletts contract of 800k and pay him that over 2 years.
Be that as it may... what about in terms of picks?

Ok i just read this in an article in the Addy.

"Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade has indicated that he’s considered what Ablett’s departure would mean for the club, telling reporters he doesn’t believe the Suns would need to recruit another marquee player to fill the void"

Did Rocket really say that because if so then Ablett is as good as done with them, that's the impression I get from that comment, its almost as if they dont rate him that highly after all.
