Surprised by the pessimism.

I reckon we’ll be fine. Excited to see how the ins go, it’s the Bombers.

More broadly, if we have to deal with a rolling COVID wave over the next month, we are in big strife interms of the last 6 weeks and finals.

Hopefully we can isolate it, but looks like the cats out of the bag.

Confirmed Wilmot also in health and safety protocols. Others also in it. Hopefully we get a confirmed list tomorrow!
Lucky the VFL boys have a bye this week or else they wouldn’t be able to field a team.

Can't believe they still test. Wonder how many of them actually have symptoms
My understating is that they have to test before going into the club every time. That may have changed though.
But probably not, because you don’t want 1 to go unchecked and to go in and potentially spread it to everyone.

Should still win comfortably if our regulars show up, and I'm excited to see the depth tested...

But it's a shame. Wanted to see a big win to make up that % gap on the Cats and Dees. Bombers looked like our best chance to do that for the remainder of the fixture.

I’d see this as an opportunity to get a look at alternatives coming into the backend of the season, and perhaps clear out sone of the COVID risk before finals.

We’ve basically been without Zorko since he was subbed out in round 13. McStay hasn’t provided much for a while so we get a look at alternatives without him and let Hippy & Daniher partner with Fort (or Fullerton).

Other than Carter Mitchell, all in’d have played some senior footy, so while it’s a big quantity of changes, it’s not the same situation as West Coast earlier in the year.

I’m excited to see how the guys coming in step up!

Better to have it go around now than closer to the finals. We’ll be ok.

McStay being undersold as usual.

Seems like there are still plenty here that don't get the importance of structure to a football team.

Sure, he didn't have a good game last week but that happens.

There are a lot of disruptions to both personnel and structure this week. Both Berry and Coleman have been in fantastic form and are are huge losses. Coleman's silk and Berry's gut running will be sorely missed. Prior played an important role against the Dogs and he's out too.

Much as we would like to think that Essendon will still be easy pickings, seven (7!) changes to a team in one week can't do a lot for team cohesion.

I guess we'll find out whether there really is a "system" that we play that can stand up to so many personnel changes.

I'll be happy with a guts effort and a narrow win.

I just can't see this "thrashing" that's supposedly going to happen

I'd say it would be a fair bet to say that they would all either have no symptoms or relatively minor, they are all young fit individuals who have good dietary habits + all of them fully vaccinated... hardly in a group that would be normally at risk of a worrying health outcome from a dose of Covid. Not too many players who are elderly, have comorbidities or are obese on an AFL list.

Time for them to join the rest of the community(except for high risk settings like hospitals and aged care) and live with it, as has typically been done with the seasonal Flu > if you have bad enough symptoms you isolate from the group and not play, individual health decision not one size fits all.

Just under three weeks ago, my wife got sick and then tested positive to Covid on a RAT test at home.. She had been out and about to a few places, as had I

Despite her totally isolating away from me in a another bedroom, and my zealously disinfecting everything that moved and didn't move in our home,I got ill within 24 hours and sure enough, tested positive myself.

We are both in our late 60's but are both triple vaccinated

I'm happy to report that both of us have recovered fully, despite us being absolutely buggered for about 48 hours.

We had different types of symptoms. She had a persistent cough and fatigue but not much else.

I had the fatigue, not much of a cough but a shocking sore throat for about 2 days. Also had nausea , a temperature of 38.5 for a few hours and loss of appetite for 24 hours.

The thing is , that Covid is absolutely rife.

After a bit of forensic analysis, we have come to the conclusion that we probably contracted it independently of each other from separate sources and that it was coincidental that we got it at the same time, more or less.

If that can happen to two people in the same household, there's no reason why in a football club with scores of personnel, that there has to be one one "spreader" per se.

PLayers, coaches and staff could easily pick it up from literally hundreds of sources.

Yeah, we’re *ed.

Will be a miracle to win this one. Wouldn’t be a problem if the Bombers weren’t in form and we didn’t lose two in the middle.
C'Mon StevoJenkins . Last week they beat the Swannies but the week before they lost to the Eagles & have lost as many games as we have won thus far.. One win doesn't give them credit to say that are "in form". WE dont need miracles....just the whole 22 playing their given roles on the day.

Our overlord Chris Fagan had it recently as well.
Will be interesting to see if Fages is back at the club today and fronts up to the weekly presser?
I had Covid back around Easter time and it took me more than a week to get over most symptoms still got a bit of a cough now.

I had covid back in February and the lethargy still sticks around. Been concerned enough to see my GP about it and he says its not uncommon to still have symptoms for this long. Very weird how it can affect people so differently. My wife had it the same time as me and she was so sick she nearly had to be hospitalized however, apart from 1 day only, I had a bad headache and the remaining few days was just annoying cold symptoms.

Excited to see what the guys brought in do with their opportunity.

Im more concerned about J. Berry.
I feel like he is the type of player that we will never get to see reach his full potential because of how injury prone he seems to be.

I don’t think anyone is generally underselling Macca, people are mentally preparing for his departure though.

I think everyone knows we are ‘better’ with him in the team. Fans know he is unselfish, gets up the ground and does team things. We are just looking on the bright side/taking a glass half full approach.

Is he a good player, who improves us structurally? Yes.

Is he replaceable given we seem overstocked in the key forward position? Yes.

Does a duel ruck set up help us equally? Yes.

Is he worth $600k a year over 5? No.

Is that money better spent elsewhere? Yes.

I think when you toss all that in, what you are seeing is a fan base slowly coming to terms with a likely departure and when he kicks 2 goals in 6 games and looks totally disinterested on field, it makes it easier to take a ‘glass half full approach’ and eventually say that goodbye.

I get the players are not at risk but a heap do have young families. While kids are not typically dying from having covid, They do seem prevalent to having long covid. It is also yet to be determined what long term issues they may potentially have from having covid.
I don’t think they are ‘not getting on with life’… the players don’t seem to be restricted by any restrictions… I just don’t see the harm in testing and having 7 days off if positive, just like the rest of the community

Yep it is interesting how it affects people in different ways however that is how all viruses work from my reading.

Glad that you and your wife are back to normal luthor, hopefully Dalions and ML you both get 100% recovery.

I contracted Covid back at the start of this year around 6 weeks after getting my second jab, my symptoms were very similar to luthor and his wife... 48 hours of what I would call pretty bad muscle fatigue, sore throat, nausea followed by 4-5 days of cold like symptoms and was recovered with no lingering symptoms a week or so after onset. I'm 62 years old and consider myself in very good physical condition for my age.

Now lets go Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnssssssssssss! and get this job done on Sunday afternoon.:brisbane:

My issue is with the compulsory testing when asymptomatic, only test if you have symptoms. My 11 year old granddaughter has had Covid twice, once while unvaccinated and once after her first jab, both very similar mild cold like symptoms, still waiting for her 2nd jab as they recommend you wait a while after having it. Thank heavens she is her normal jovial self and doesn't seem to have any lasting side affects.

I always like to extrapolate these issues out to the same situation in Grand Final week, if it happens then and say McCluggage, Neale, Andrews and Cameron do their AFL mandated test despite feeling fine and test positive to Covid but all have no symptoms and are feeling completely normal are we all happy with them missing the Grand Final in that circumstance?

Anyway sorry for clogging up the game day thread with Covid talk, I will leave it there.

Two points to make. The first is our vaunted injury management is regressing to the mean.

And there was a two year period when Fitzroy always won when Garry Wilson was injured. We would tag hard with Clayton, Harris and Hinchen and get run from Sera and the defenders to fill the breach, that is we adapted to how we had available. I assume the coaches have discussed scenarios where players are missing but with seven gone we will now see two things
  1. How good is our depth
  2. How good is the coaching staff under pressure
We still should win at home is my take
