I think us supporters have to come to the clubs rescue in their hour of need.....I'm a tad too old to play but I'll umpire, I think I'd look good in umpire's lime green and I'll be very fair giving out free kicks!;);)
Especially when we are playing St.Kilda eh 😉

Do you know if the staff shortages are just from staff being sick/Covid or is it because a significant number of staff chose not to vaccinate or a mixture of both?
Covid.

Very few staff left last year due to the vaccine mandate. So that’s been dealt with long ago.

Since January it’s been staff shortages due to illness, and has gotten far worse since late May.

I recall Daly saying last night that the club was doing the mandatory two tests per week which is afl standard and then he said the club started proactively doing them again daily when someone got it a few weeks - maybe Zac - which is now to our detriment as he said people werent presenting with symptoms so perhaps thats our problem, but then its probably not ethical for greater good

You test them daily so they can isolate them as early into their infectious period as possible and stop the spread so you don’t get large outbreaks and several missing all at once

It probably worked well a few weeks back when only Bailey missed and previously with Adams and Bruce

Gee there are some thick people on this board

We don’t test them this week and maybe instead of 5 cases we get 15 next week

In a fairer comp the AFL would postpone this game.

Disagree. All clubs signed up for the ‘play on’ mandate. You just field a team and push on.

We have seen teams ‘down to 22 fit players on the list’ without COVID being a factor, do we postpone a game in that situation too? Sport all around the world pushes on through COVID waves.

This COVID wave could cost us our season, but we knew that was a risk coming in.

What is concerning is finals, if a prelim final or GF is decided by a team missing 5-6 of their best 22 through HS protocols, that’s gonna really suck.

That would make the drafting of ESmith and Dev pretty disastrous if Dev gets moved on

Yet to see evidence Dev is absolutely capable of high level footy, consistently.

He might be a great player after 150 games but so might anyone in the reserves, if given that chance.

Had his chance recently and failed to take it.

Not writing him off, but you have to take your rare chances in a top 4 team, he has failed to do that.

If he becomes collateral to ‘opportunity squeeze’ that would not be dissimilar to every other, long term, top 4 team to ever exsist.

If he goes onto devalop elsewhere like Ben has, we can’t really mourn that loss, because the same devalopment opportunity doesn’t exist with us, as it does with a bottom side.

My morbid side wants to see this happen to us....... but wait >

.

.

We then bring in Ryan Lester, Rhys Matheison, Mitch Robinson, Connor McFadyen and Mitchell Cox as fill ins and go on to win the flag in the biggest upset of all time and record our first win at the MCG since 2014.:D:brisbane:🏆

Said players then get delisted, traded out or retire.

Poor matho ! Boy carnt do much more .

I really don’t get this ongoing sentiment. There are only 2 players on our list he is first inline to replace and that is Neale and Lyons. If either of them were out I think he would come in.

Also - I personally can not see him coming in and all of a sudden being a consistent AFL mid, the annual.. ‘bring in beast mode’ stage of the year never delivers once selected.

There’s bound to be.

The problem is that those testing positive now will also be out next week. We really need to bank these wins against the Bombers and Giants before our nightmare run home.

Why are they out next week? Isn’t it 7 days?

At least there is sort of a positive if we lose tomorrow, we are still equal on points (ahead on percentage) with the premiership favourites Collingwood.

Don't think you can call it a chance when he wasn't played in the middle consistently. On the wing or half forward usually.

Would work well for our finals mental complex, adopting the underdog status would be good for the pressure on us.

That is what I’m talking about though, there is opportunity squeeze, it’s not going to be perfect.

By Dev not showing he can play a versatile role in the team, he has probably further pigeon holed himself as mid or bust going forward, thus cocky etc will be ahead of him for the versatile roles.

The same people who complain Dev was played out of position, are also advocating for Matho to be brought in… to replace someone and play.. out of position.

you get your chance - where it exists and you have to take it.

This is the up to date side.... at this stage >

Tom Fullarton, Jack Payne, James Madden.
Zac Bailey, Marcus Adams, Brandon Starcevich.

Oscar McInerney, Jarryd Lyons, Lachie Neale(C).
Mitch Robinson, Lincoln McCarthy, James Tunstill.

Hugh McCluggage, Eric Hipwood, Cam Rayner.
Ryan Lester, Joe Daniher, Charlie Cameron.

Nakia Cockatoo, Harry Sharp, Carter Michael, Darcy Fort.

On HSP stand by/emergencies > Dev Robertson, Tom Berry, Rhys Matheison, Connor McFadyen.

You would think in that named side Lester and Bailey swap positions along with McCarthy and McCluggage... although maybe Bailey does play back to get some run out of the D50.

Still looks a reasonable side, hopefully no more test positive tomorrow morning, all players were tested this morning so you would think that would be it, they would be isolating now.

That would of course make Ryan, Rhys, Mitch, Connor and Mitchell are premiership heroes and bona fide AFL stars and they could parlay that into moves to other clubs ... would equally of course suck for the folks that those five replaced and so never go to play in the big dance (well not this year anyway!)

I think both Jimmy Tunstill and Mitch Robbo may need to spend some time on ball.

I think Rayner will certainly spend more time on ball to replace Berry from last week. Other than that we haven’t lost any mids. The wing is a specialised position these days. We need people who know how to play it to play it. I was really hoping to see Answerth get a run there but what can you do!

If you have positive-but-unidentified players in close contact with others in training and team meetings, every chance they can spread it to others and you wind up having more players out with covid by the time the weekend comes around.

The downsides are the risk of false positives and it's inconvenient for the players. In terms of controlling the spread in the playing group, a strong and proactive testing regime increases player availability, rather than reduces it.

It's sensible to be proactive with the testing and then at least you have control over whatever the situation is , plus you're protecting the health and safety of your players which should be a No 1 priority.

Even though that sucks a bit now it makes all of our players aware to not take unnecessary risks in their personal lives. No player wants to sit out a game because of covid.
