Having Wells start as sub is very very tempting. Fitness wouldn't be an issue, as he'd only need to run for 20-30minutes. It's more a matter of whether or not he can handle the finals pressure.

It's a huge risk, one I think brad will be reluctant to take because his head will fall on the axe if it doesn't pay off.

not so sure about the head falling on the axe nevertheless
if we are going to play , play him
put him in the 22 and if he falls over replace him with the sub, surely a superior approach?
I wldnt mind giving him a game, Garner and Turner have both done good stuff esp garner but every punt we have taken so far has come off

Given it is close enough to the last Saturday in September, I just call the GF as my birthday each year. So I've had 3 pretty damn good ones so far, 1992 on the day.

I remember in 1999 the GF was on the 25th the day before my 10th bday that was nice early present.
Now the actual grand final is the first week of October, what is this shit? :p

The good news: the Squiggle now has us in premiership territory for the first time this year.
The bad news: West Coke and Hawthorn still miles in front.
The ugly news: Freo are in no mans land.

All that it means it that we are statistically where others have been when they won.

Which says perhaps we can win too.

From 8th its a fairy tale, lets keep on keeping on.

I really don't have that feeling I had last year. I'm feeling a lot more confident this year. The way the players are stepping up in a finals really feels like they've gained a lot of experience from last year and Higgings and Waite are paying us back in spades. I'm at least confident enough to say will be competitive and last years loss will really fuel the team to have a red hot dip.

Fantastic news.

Have huge faith in the squiggle, reckon it's the single most accurate statical predictor of form for AFL games that I've ever seen.

Being in premiership territory at this stage, is really, really promising.

If they chose Wells, he has to start. The sub has to be prepared to play from the first bounce.

Set him loose until he is cooked and then sub him out if needed.

We are up against it this week. Playing it safe and conventional is likely to end up in a loss.

Brad has shown that he doesn't mind rolling the dice, and this week he needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Look at Rioli last year. Limited preparation after injury; tore the Swans a new one in the GF.

Make it happen Brad.

Would be interesting to know exactly what Steve Saunders knows right now about Wells. I found it interesting that Brad Scott talked his chances down after the win this week while the previous two weeks he talked them up. I also remember in 94 when Pagan played Fridge Roberts in the preliminary after no footy for ages - he had 3 kicks and we lost by a kick. Looked fine on the track during the week and then looked so far off the pace during the game. I know they're different players but I think it's too risky and we can win without him.

Whilst I know were up against it Im not as low on confidence as last year. Or even last week.
I have never seen Wright, Atley, Tarrant, Higgins, Waite, Garner, Goldstein, Cunnington, Jacobs and MacMillan play as well as they are now. All are in arguably career best form right now. Tarrant, Higgins, Goldstein and Jacobs would be elite in their position in the AFL.
Firrito is also playing a blinder of a finals series. Dal Santo has hit his straps the last 6 quarters and is playing game 300 not to mention and Boomer and Drew are doing what they do. Then there is Ziebell and Swallow who along with Cunnington I have never seen be so ferocious at the contest. Just winning contested ball at will. Its unsighted for this team.
Gibson is performing a role as a defensive midfielder. And its helping. Thomas has been crucial as sub and even Hansens hands are sticky and he stamped out the odd brain fade over the weekend.
It leaves Thompson and he is the height of my concerns. Riewoldt and Tippet were too good for him. Having said Riewoldt got the rub of the green a couple of times when we played them two weeks ago but it was concerning watching Tippet not get silver service and still beat Hunter. Kennedy will be setting himself for a big game. I firmly believe we stop Kennedy and well win.

Man some of these posts are getting me super pumped.

I'm not tuned into tactics enough to talk about match ups and tactics but I do know one thing. If we can get this game played on our terms we are in it up to our necks. If it becomes a free flowing game and their mids are allowed to get on the outside we are gonna struggle. BUT......if we can keep it a tight highly contested game were the ball stays on the inside a lot we are a red hot chance.

I don't think it's healthy to be this this pumped up 6 days before the game haha

Doc Larkins reckons Taz probably won't play as it was a tear and it is with his kicking side. This is a huge out if he can't come up. Even so it will be on his mind the entire game and knowing how injury prone he is, I am not confident he can play through a ningling injury

Even dish will be ok but if he hits that bruised knee again it will spell trouble. I feel like he would play through a broken leg. Absolute warrior

While I like your boldness.. this is the most foolish thing we could possibly do.

If he plays (and he won't) he will start as sub, the longer he stays as sub the more chance he'll be able to play out the game. There's no way in hell he'll be able to play 4 quarters after not playing a single full game in 6 months.
