Re: Team For Round 1 Nab Cup

I'm most concerned at no Fyfe. He's not been training, what's up with him?
Ibbo is a strange one, been training normally, in the leadership group.
Most peculiar mama.

Reported last Weds he had the flu I think? Anyone know if he's been missing at training this week as well?

My theory is that they want guys like Pav and Sandilands and others who will be in the mix for the season proper to get a run at a home game versus getting match fitness at some country town. It's a pretty good strategy in my book. Guys like Hinkley and Sibosado can get match fitness in woop woop.

Sibo hasn't been in full training so that's no surprise. He's supposedly got OP. He didn't play the last few rounds of WAFL last year either.
As for the other younguns like Bucca, perhaps they are rotating the squad during the pre-season.

Well, it is a good squad based on the number of injuried players we've got. I always like to see us winning the 1st round of the NAB cup and later on I am not too fussed.

Does anyone know if the game/s going to be shown on free to air TV? I heard somewhere that Ch 7 might be televising it.

Because I can:

How's his work on the left foot, and the passing to the forward's advantage

Thats the first time Ive seen that package. What impressed me the most was his repeat efforts and the number of times he linked up/was involved in the same passage of play. Obviously got a very good tank. A couple of times some handballs put the receiver under a bit of pressure, but he managed to get the contest, get the footy back and set up the next play. Very impressive. Am really looking forward to seeing how he goes this weekend.

Discuss!!

The players in bold I do not see being in our best 22 players. Therefore it is a very good exercise in experience and team building. Great to see players like Faulks, Mzungu, Mitchie, Bollenhagen and Mellington getting a run.

ONly disappointed that Sibo is injured and unable to show off his sweet skills. :(

Lower and Suban will be best 22. Lower wasn't drafted for depth, or to keep him out of anyone else's hands. It's notoriously dangerous drafting interstate rookies as it is, let alone established adults. I fully expect a thread towards the middle of the year titled: "Can Palmer, Barlow and Lower all play in the same side?"

The outside chance, in my opinion, is that Lower was picked up this year to cover for the hit from GWS, which could answer that thread...

Suban is one of the best kicks in the team and if I was going to give a criticism it would be that he takes it too seriously, wanders into a bit of push and shove to support his teammates too quickly.
He's running as well as Rhys and Tendai. Last year he was injured, so I'm expecting big things this year from the Under-18 Victorian Captain and Dual All Australian.

I might sound like I have my head in the sand but to me; Suban and Roberton are where we'll see some big improvement this year, out of our carrying over players.

Throw in Crichton & all of the above I reckon is spot on.
Lower, finishing 2nd in the SANFL , which is the second best comp is not something to be sneezed at.
Port supporters reckon he was tough as nuts at the ball but it was his disposal that was letting him down. After being delisted from port where he was mainly played off the half back line he has worked on his deficiencies & moved into the midfield which is where he finished runner up in the Magarey medal.
Looking forward to Sunday to see how this all pans out .

I don't understand the Ibbotson out. Is he best 22? One would think he needs to be better this year. He showed glimpses last year, albeit as a run with type for many games. Not convinced yet.

gees pretty strong team for the opening round of NAB, we will smash the hawks like they did to us in launceston if Silverscopes team lines up. thinking there's logic in Pav, Sandi, mundy, being rested 2nd round if we travel, in comes Ibbo, Fyfe and play Clarke as no 1 ruck. I remember last year NAB players were already preassigned games off and we had understrength side against Sainters. Agree with most, not a good sign for Hinks if he ain't in this 29.

Was dissapointed in subans last season.

Still think he will become an important part of the 22 hopefully starts the year of in fine style to put last season way behind him.

Everyone is on different training routines. It may just be something as simple as he wont be ready until next week so the club is keeping to that timeline.

You guys will see why Suban is clearly part of our best 22.

Last year he had a couple of injuries (Shoulder and Knee?, not sure on the Knee I could be wrong) and some indifferent form.

I'd hope to see him cement his spot in the 22 this year.
