AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Essendon negotiated terribly and couldn't offer enough.
I think Essendon has been trying to paint themselves as some sort of compassionate benefactor here. Instead they've painted themselves as something far smellier.
Gold Coast dealt fairly with every other club throughout this draft period. We haven't ripped anyone off. Although the Suns wanted to keep Caddy, we would have traded him on compassionate grounds, if a fair deal had been offered. It wasn't. I believe our club will still treat Josh & his family with compassion & try to accommodate their needs, while he remains on our list.
I'm pretty sure Hunt's salary will come under the cap after the conclusion of his first contract, unless I've misunderstood how the rule was explained.K.Hunt? dont think he actually comes under the salary cap and comes under some AFL marketing thing?

I'd hardly call it excellent compo. The names & draft picks I heard quoted were not within a bull's roar of what Caddy is worth.I think I am the only Suns supporter that wanted the Caddy trade to go through as we will get nothing for him next season. He will walk end of year, there is not a hope in hell the club will be able to match the lucrative offers he will be offered, not when we have so many other kids all in the same position. Just like Tippett will walk next season from the Crows. Only way the offers will diminish is if he has a crap year, which is the last thing we want now after turning down excellent compo.
I think judging, CGS agrees. But keeps in mind if he wants to head home next season, and only deals with the bombers, they could lose out if Caddy goes the draft, and Caddy puts a big price on his head (knowing what Essendon would offer, though, still has little to lose if he really wants to go to the bombers, but will accept victoria non the less.. This season, he can't walk.I'd hardly call it excellent compo. The names & draft picks I heard quoted were not within a bull's roar of what Caddy is worth.

Fraser will probably be moved on end of 2012 so that will free some up, as well as Bock moving onto a veteran's list I think? so 50% of his wage will not effect our Salary Cap is my understanding.
Bock can't move onto the veteran's list at the suns, it's only for players with 10 years of service at one club, not overall in the comp.
In the end it was Caddy's own fault he didn't get a trade... giving the Suns 24-hours notice he wanted out was poor form on his behalf. Should he have made it clear of his desire to head home from the beginning of the week, a deal would have been done and dusted, the Suns would have obtained the top 10 pick it wanted, end of story.
Thanks, is there any other stipulations for veterans list? I'm unsure and haven't been able to find any articles on what it entails.
Cheers
Veteran Players
Under AFL player rules, each club may nominate or list any number of what are called Veteran Player’s.
- In order to be eligible for classification as a Veteran a player must have been the age of 30 as at September 30 in the relevant AFL season and be on the primary list of the AFL club for at least 10 years or in the case of Port Adelaide since the inception of the club.
- From 2006 there is now no limit on the number of veteran players a club can list, as long as the player meets the required classification.
The Veterans List allowance will be amended to apply to players with 10 years service at one club and will be based on a set amount of TPP per player calculated as a percentage of TPP.

Would you think this carries over to GCFC now? Since our inception? Just looking up Bock and Fraser now...
Bock 20-03-1983 (currently 28)
Fraser 05-01-1982 (currently 29)
Will be the age of 30 as of Sept 30 next year so would he fall into our Veteran's list. Mind you will prob be moved on next year...
It doesn't really explain what the veteran's list is entitled too?
Well done.
We'll give you a much better deal next year.
