I said something similar in the Murph thread recently, how continuity in selection breeds some confidence and stability. Oleg looks another major beneficiary of this. Will be pretty hard to dislodge him in the short term, and he deserves his spot

Has stepped up and is doing his job well at the moment, doing all we could ask of the lad. A fit Howey and Murph means he probably doesn't get a game, but you've got to be pleased and thankful for what he is giving us and that we are still winning games without those blokes being available.

That first assist to Frampton for the first goal of the last Q was sublime.
He didn't just bomb it.
Pointed his finger to him and Billy did the rest.
Had a few great highlights.

Hard to drop. So yeah he continues to get a game.
More possessions and contested football than even Murphy.

I'll admit, when we offered him the role in pre-season, I thought it was a waste of a developmental player we could've looked at. He has played really well and I'm happy I was wrong! The Tash has to stay!!
Yes he was really good mate.
As he was last week. Won many of the contested balls he was involved in with a couple of score involvements as well.
That assist to Frampton in the last was beautiful.

For sure. And really ands to our legs and run off the half back as well. Another dynamic to runner and fits within the system. Has taken a number of good intercept marks as well.

Both Oleg and Billy Frampton copped a little bit of negative posts from a few here.
Both proving to be a master-stroke from Wrighty and Fly.

Wait till Edward comes in. In time he will be the next best talented next to Nick.

Markov was interviewed pre game on SEN on Anzac day.

He is so articulate and seems like such a good team mate. Was so happy for Ruscoe whilst empathising re Murphy.

I don't think we have seen the best of his intercept marking yet.

So I expect him to further improve and could see him becoming a specialised sub.

Didn't play badly but someone makes way for Murphy

Oleg will stay. It’s a five day rest and some will be sore. Best time to let those who are fresh keep playing and rest those who are sore.

Murphy and Adams will come in. Pendles might ding it hard to get up with his eye poke. And Krueger might need some more VFL to get him self ready. So that’s 2 outs.

Agree, rather Ruscoe stays in, beautiful user of the footy and pretty hard at it. Loved his game yesterday.
Agree, Ruscoe is a really good player who needs opportunities.
If it came down to Trey or Q I’d have Trey in the side at the moment.
He can do everything Quaynor can do but is more physical than Q.

I thought Markov was pretty ordinary against Essendon. He turned it over by hand and foot, made poor decisions and failed to keep separation from other runners when possessing the ball. Running into other team mates when you possess the ball is an issue for an outside player. All that said love his attack on the ball and speed to make contests. A real mixed bag from possession-to-possession and contest-to-contest.

There was 3 direct turnovers straight to the opposition with no pressure on.
I’m not sold on him and theres always been a knock on his decision making at his other clubs.
Either way if he makes it brilliant, if not we have plenty of cover on that position.
In that last Quarter on Anzac day he was great to watch.

He's raw, but plays his heart out and got better as the game wore on. His kick to Frampton to start the final quarter was spectacular and his hustle along the boundary line, in the final minutes, made me smile. It's very hard not to pull for the young man.

To get a win against the despised Bombers, on sacred ANZAC Day, with your reserve players stepping up and getting the job done, more than makes the day. To Nick Daicos goes all the glory. But to Oleg Markov goes a huge pat on the back and drinks on the house for standing tall in the end. The experience he has gained, the last few weeks, builds his confidence and critical depth this team will need down the stretch.

Markov is working his way into becoming a reliable utility player competing for a spot in the top 23. He still has to develop and isn't ready for a full-time spot in the starting 18; however, he is giving the selection committee plenty to consider going forward.

Peace!

@73% DE is not horrible.

40% kicking efficiency within that DE% is.

Edit: my bad, his kicking efficiency for the saints game was 57%. The 40% reflected his season to date combining his 0% KE from 3 kicks against Brisbane with that 57%.

At 3 qtr time I was ready to send Markov into the sunset on horseback, but at games end I was praising his efforts while molding a clay statue of him Ghost style.

He really stepped up in that last qtr and provided plenty of drive inside 50. He plays with energy and along with the AFL's greatest moustacha I feel like he holds his spot right now. Throw Ruscoe into the same boat too while you're at it, he stepped up big time. All of a sudden easy ins and outs don't look so easy. This is a great sign to have VFL players come in and raise their game accordingly and look like they want to be a part of it.
