Far too early to say he'll be a star.

He has potential, that's about it at this stage.

Ollie has demonstrated his ability at the highest level, he has much more than "potential".

A draftee has potential, Ollie has lit it up on the biggest stage.

Any number of clubs would love him in their starting 18.

He's no star yet but he is a proven talent with a bit to work on. It's a luxury that the club can afford to keep him in the 2s and play the long game with his development.

Nothing like hyperbole.

Firstly as you haven't mentioned living there I assume you have no direct personal experience to speak of but are speaking as an armchair, sometime tourist.

Secondly it is a cunis town - by that I mean neither one thing or the other.

Too big to enjoy the benefits of a rural community.

Too small to have the advantages of a capital city.

Thirdly it's attitude to it's neighbouring settlements is predatory.

Fourthly it's attitude to Melbourne is chip on shoulder.

The shipwreck coast is rightly renowned for it's scenic splendour.

A shame about the gateway.

Geelong doesn't have an attitude towards Melbourne. Geelongs quite happy being Geelong. I only ever hear Melbourne people talk down about Geelong. Who has the bad attitude there?

So, what do people think about Ollie not being able to cement a place in the team? Clearly his best footy is very impressive. He looks a star when he is leaping taking marks, kicking goals, but clearly he is doing something wrong or not in line with team expectations?

Yes, he is young, but this would not be the reason, plenty of young players can and have cemented spots. So..........??

IDK what the reason is but can only guess. To me it might be his defensive work rate and pressure acts? I do see him out of position a fair bit in the forward line, not tracking his defender. As they say, for 98% of the game you do not have the footy in your hands, so what are you doing with all this time? Anyone have a different thought?

I'm not worried. He's s young forward learning his craft.

I’m quite comfortable with Kappa’s characterisation. Henry has shown he has ability in cameos, a quarter here and there where he has been able to shift a game.

Jaidyn Stephenson showed a great deal more in his debut season, and his career is spiralling the drain only a few years later.

Henry has a long way to go to show he can be a long term player for us. There have been positive signs, for sure, but it’s a long bow to draw to call him a star or even a future star.

Stevenson was a young star in 2018 but it turned to sh*t after that. :) Unfair comparison because of all the negative character attributes that define Stevo and how steep the decline was.

By all accounts Ollie is a good egg; no one is calling him a star yet but he has already shown what he can do.

He is one of the young guys in the Collingwood side that have demonstrated a very high ceiling.

Geelong forum want Parfitt moved on for Ollie or a first round pick. They are certainly keen and confident

Will be line ball that’s for sure.
Cats poster from the main board…
“I'm reliably informed that he'll sign a 2 year deal at the Pies and then head to Geelong when we have the trade assets and the need.
He loves Collingwood but wants to play with his brother at the club he grew up idolising.
That info was relayed about 2 weeks ago with re-signing not far away.
Unless something has changed that's what's happening”

Geelong wouldn't cough up what they would have to lose to gain Henry next year. He's still unproven and would cost them a very low draft pick and maybe even a player. A good manager would make him sign up for the Pies for the next couple of years before trying to go to Geelong.

Ceiling is just another word for potential, which is what we were busy admonishing Kappa for saying IIRC…

Kappa said that Ollie only has potential at this stage and I clarified that this is how you'd describe a draftee; Ollie has shown what he can do at the senior level.

Still has things to work on.

I didn't admonish, I offered my view on Henry.

I feel like in 2 years time, if all goes well, the trade a 22 year-old Henry would command would be pretty significant. I'm picturing a Jack Gunston-type 40+ goal-kicker

Too many apostrophe issues here to respond in detail - just raising a general alert

Agree to disagree.

“Showing what you can do” perhaps, but he’s yet to put a full game together let alone a run of games or a season, hence why he’s in the VFL at the moment. When he can establish a decent baseline for performance he’ll go from having potential (to be a consistent part of our best 22, let alone “star”) to delivering on that potential.

If you don’t like the Stephenson analogy, how about Ruscoe? He had some very strong games in defence, nailed some high-risk kicks into the corridor, looked a player… currently can’t get a game and lacks confidence.

Poulter “showed what he can do” last year and now is fighting to keep a spot on the list.

Begg “showed what he can do” for the senior side and aside from some hype amongst track-watchers, we have no idea whether he’ll have a career or even what position he’d play.

People are counting their chickens too soon with Ollie.

I think Ollie is a cut above all those you have mentioned but our differing views are part of the fascinating BF tapestry.

he has good hands but limited acceleration from a standing start, which isnt good for forward pressure

He has excellent hands but I agree he needs to develop his defensive game. I assume this is why he is currently not in the senior side. Well that, plus the fact that we have struck gold with AJ.

If they don't trial him alongside Johnson before the finals without being forced to by an injury I will be bitterly disappointed in the coaching committee. They need to find out now and it could pay off big time, remember they didn't even have Darcy Cameron in the side round 1.

Who comes out for this to happen?

WHE?
