Oppo Camp Oliver Henry (Traded to Geelong 2022)

I think it would certainly be interesting to experiment with. Mihocek does seem to thrive when he gets to play alongside Cameron/Cox, but given Freddy is a bit taller than him maybe he could occupy that role.

Would AJ be the ruck backup? I never thought of it as a potential tool of his, but he looked at home in the VFL playing the ruck. He's 193cm and 87kgs, so not tiny (same height as Chris Dawes!) and is a monster athlete

Good way to ruin him, let him just play fwd.

He has kicked 5 goals in 3 games as a 19 year old. Hasn’t even played 15 games. I remember a young kid having the fumbles in his early games, in fact his first kick went on the full. His name was Peter and we know how that worked out. The intensity last night was like nothing Henry would have experienced. It was finals like. Keep playing him and he will pick up the tempo. The kid is a gem.
Incredibly encouraging that he stood up in the second half and performed in one of the most intense matches seen in years.

You wouldn’t rest him this week, but see how he goes alongside AJ for a week and then reassess with De Goey due to return. Hopefully he plays a blinder and we have to find someone else to drop.

I agree - but BF swings bw extremes after every game

He's James Hird then he needs a rest
Hyperbole out of control
Just let him play
Letting him play can be detrimental. And besides he needs to warrant his spot otherwise what message does that send to the other performing players in the 2’s. His form warrants being dropped this week. He’ll bounce back and improve, same as last season.

Ridiculous talk of him being dropped. Only one player has kicked more goals this year for us. He is one goal off being our highest goal scorer. He is only one goal behind Tom Lynch, 2 behind Harry Mackay and Buddy Franklin and 3 behind Jeremy Cameron and Tom Hawkins.

100%

I have no idea what people are expecting from this kid.

Entered the AFL system during Covid.
Has clearly put in significant work to add muscle to his young body.
Kicked a goal of the year contender in round 1.
Is one of our leading goal scorers.
Doesn't drop his head when he makes mistakes.
Ignited a 9 goal 3rd term.
Looks like he will increase his output significantly compared to last year.

If he keeps tracking the way he is, he is going to be a superstar.

Needs time to grow into his body and time to learn his abilities/limits.

What are some of you expecting exactly? No fumbles, no mistakes and 18 goals after 3 rounds?

With Ash Johnson and Kruger showing early positive signs, and this kid's improvement, we're starting to look like we might have some serious weapons.

No way he gets dropped the week after performing that desperate, brilliant, run-down tackle of Selwood and kicking the resultant goal. Doing so really would be sending the wrong message to those pushing for selection.

But I can see Henry or Gini making way for JDG in a week’s time if they have quiet games this week and look in need of a rest.

Think its more a concern for his development. I dont think of it as a negative to consider some VFL time. Clearly the coaching staff will be best placed to see where his head and confidence are

He is as you point out doing some really impressive things and the run down tackle and goal and his 2nd half in general may change things. But he has often looked timid and lacked committment to both marking contests and ground ball contests. Its occured multiple times each match.

He doesnt look confident out there often and maybe its better to build that in the VFL where he can dominate for a few games and bring him back when he feels he belongs

As i said the coaches will be the ones who know really and i would be surprised if they are not discussing the best way to have him learn to show full committment to the contest and stop pulling out. A VFL stint may be the answer even though he is one of our brightest talents. Not every bright talent makes it, they still need to be developed.

Wouldn’t be good to drop Gini either with all the criticism levelled at him at the moment.

It was the only thing he did right for the whole game!

You can’t have a single run down tackle the basis of keeping your spot.

There is a difference between saying bit of play are James hird like and seeing a few weeks in a row he is not up to it currently.

Its very and I mean blind Freddy kind of obvious that he is a confidence player and right now it’s not up. He’s timid and not just vs Geelong and fumbling a lot.

Why people are scared to let him find his way through VFL has me stumped and lol at your he’s only x goals behind H.McKay its bloody round 3. He’s kicked 2, 2 and 1 goal in games we have largely dominated with ample opportunities for forwards.

He’s kicked 5 goals from 7 shots and 7 marks total. From 3 games these aren’t high numbers to be comparing with top line kpfs favourably. His impact on games from creating contests to being a focal point also not compar@ble.

Its not a pot on Henry it’s people feeling he is not ready and it’s better to let him build confidence and form in vfl, people aren’t marking his cards permanently.

Often against other kpp sized players, constantly battering in vs bigger afl quality ruckmen will wear him down and eventually cause injury.
I wouldn't have him doing it any more than for a couple of minutes a game to be honest. I think both he and Kreuger could pinch hit given their athleticism

Ollie is coming along nicely, he is young, obviously a nervous starter, and will need to be 'managed'.

He has talent to burn.

I certainly won't be surprised if he is up and down a bit through the year -in terms of both form and between AFL and VFL.

FWIW, I wouldn't be 'resting' him back in the VFL just yet.

That’s my thought also.

The only disclaimer to that is if Kreuger gets up and they want to trial Kreuger, Cameron and Checkers first.

He’s a massive fumbler early in games, then later on he becomes a lot more clean.

I think he’s a very nervous starter, needs to speak to the psychologist.
Experience will come.
Shows all the right signs.
If anything I think he is "thinking" too far ahead.
Needs to get the ball in the mitts first then start thinking what he is going to do with it.

Has been very good for what I assume is going to be a key target role.
