Why would you bring up Myrtleford? From what I see they have gone through rough times and come out the other end with a very strong group of mostly local players. Their position is completely different from that of C/R as C/R have that many teams around them in a close radius all vying for the same pool of players. There is no solution to C/R problems apart from reducing the amount of teams in that area, moving to another competition is going to solve the problem.

On saying that if C/R did leave which team from the minor comps is ready to take the step up?
The only way corowa will keep a float is if one of CDHBU and Ruthers or a local club folds and they pick up those leftovers

Thurgoona is chomping at the bit

If they went to the Tallangatta League it could work well. The Tallangatta League has really strong juniors so that would be a big help in developing kids to come through to senior Footy. They would only need to fill 4ths and 3rds instead of 12's, 14's, 16's & 3rds like they do now which would reduce the pressure on finding players. The better players would still find their way to the O&M via the Wang Clubs etc.
The O&M stuffed up when they made the salary cap $160k plus a coach. That's still a fortune to raise. They should've had some balls and made it more like $120k all up. All the money hungry players could piss off somewhere else.

Thurgoona are a long way from having the facilities to play O&M football, also my understanding is they would need more netballers not less, and how many of their players would want to play at the higher level?

Less netballers ? don't Thurgoona field 6 netball teams O& M have 4 !

No District League club in their right mind would join the O&M. TDFL has 5 grades of football & 7 grades of netball. To reduce this to 3 and 3 would have a devastating effect. With the added bonus of Albury winning the next 10 flags it is not an attractive proposition.

Sorry ideas talking about senior grades, as O&M has A,B,C and then the junior grade of u/16's and the thurgoona only have A,B then all the others are junior grades. Not to mention they will lose their U/14's As well.

Not been to Thurgoona netball mate and not looking for an argument but Tallangatta league netball results show C grade Thurgoona beating Mitta 66 to 13 last week ?

Maybe the 5 non AW clubs - Corowa , Wang , Rovers , myrtlef , yarra , go off with their footy , grab Benalla , Euroa and mansfield and form new league!. Can have as many grades of footy and netball as they can field. Girls teams too.
How are the eastern end clubs going in the GVFL? They struggling to keep up too?
Thurgoona , Wodonga Saints , Wagga join O&M( drop the "O" ). Think it took Raiders ( Demons) years to win a game. Keep it all very AW central.

Seems you are right. Shows how long it's been since I've watched a tallangatta league match.

Yep Mansfield have struggled for the past 5-6 years in the GVFL, Benalla won the flag in 2015 and lost the GF in 2014. Finished 3rd in 2016. Euroa have been thereabouts in relation to finals over the past few years but are probably on the 2nd or 3rd rung of betting for the GVFL flag in 2017 after a healthy recruitung period.

That said, all three might be open to new opportunities.

Genuinely serious question. Why would clubs like Euroa, Mansfield & Benalla want to join a league to compete with Albury?
He was saying all non albury wodonga clubs to go off from o&m and form own league with benalla euroa and mansfield... will never happen but has merit

Why not just get rid of albury to the NEAFL where they can spend as much as they want on players bring in another club and watch the interest in the competition be reignited as it would be much more even competition.

I see all of them are named in the twos again (except O'Connor). Is their best footy behind a couple of them ? Surely they could all earn a small fortune in Murray or Picola league...

A lot of good games still ahead of them. They haven't been able to train very often due to work commitments. A game or two in the 2's and they will be back starting at 2pm.

Your last comment is exactly why Yarra has been successful over a long period. The vast majority are locals or young kids from surrounding smaller towns, not high profile traveling recruits that only ever stay for 1 or 2 years. Almost everyone on their list would get significantly more $'s from other clubs and many are approached year after year, but they continue to stay.

Clubs need to establish a culture where it isn't just about money, hard to do but it can be done.

Flying a bloke in named Fevola on Mega Bucks also helped with that success

I think you're on to something here. Drop the "O" and bring in Wagga on the Murrumbidgee. The marketing potential for M&M would be enormous!
