Couldn't be a tougher game to hit round one. Arguably our key rivals for the flag this year, certainly we are one they need to knock off. History tells me you can't pick from pre-season form and you can't pick it based on last year. I expect GWS to come out firing and the pies we need to be playing their best, given first game, to win. Will we have a premiership hang over? I expect it to be a tight match for most of the game, Pies to win. I have faith in McRae to ensure no hangover.

I’m in Sydney for family reasons, and not going to the game.

But unbelievably we seem to have landed in the same hotel as the Pies. Cameron (in white crocs), Pendles, Lippa and Cox (did you know he’s very tall) were just now in the foyer.

Despite my heart rate going up, I left them alone and got in the lift with two young women. They were wondering if they’d just seen some ‘basketball players’. I set them right.

Pretty sure those crocs featured in a recent club video, with Jordy sending them off asail, aboard a kickboard to the middle of a swimming pool
