Coach Operation Get Hardwick

I wasn’t sure at the start of the year but after seeing the changes already made at the club this year I am all in on Carr as well.
Has done all the experience needed to become an AFL coach and is 99% the reason why things are most likely different at the club this year imo.

How can you say the players are soft after what we’ve seen recently???

Yeah they’re not smacking guys out and winning by 10 goals every game but hardness at the contest and resilience to turn games when momentum is against us is clearly there.

Our problem under Ken has always been method not toughness.
They are playing for Ken and Ken's job, they don't play for the club and the white noise, Russell's tribute game was a prime example. Home and away games are one thing, we will see how we go in finals.

I will be surprised if Hardwick is coaching anywhere next season, it's more likely he will go straight into a lucrative media gig in 2024 with maybe some chance of the afl pushing him into the Tassie job a few years down the track.

As others have already suggested, there is no way kern would cope with the pressure of coaching a big Melbourne club even if they were interested, which I strongly doubt.

I suspect both his manager and his cheese and kisses are very aware of his short comings, and if they go to the well once too often that ridiculous love affair the Vic media have with him would come to a grinding halt when put under the spotlight in Melbourne which could result in kern the saviour of Alberton struggling to cope!

It's either Carr or Hardwick. Port needs to toughen up and get a mongrel coach.

Carr has been great so far, and Ken may have found his spot as the sort of Choco on the bench reinforcing strategies etc.

Im all in on Carr now too I think. He could be the next super-coach for all we know, and he's already at the club.
Would make an interesting poll given our current form.

Carr who is already working wonders but is yet to prove himself as the sole main man or in finals.

Hardwick who has the runs on the board but would need to gel with the group and has question marks about whether he is too burnt out/has the passion to go again.

For the first time in a long time I like our coaching set up, even Chadbro. It’s the best system we’ve had in a decade. I don’t think I want to change it if adding Hardwick will destabilise it. The history of AFL isn’t littered with multiple club premiership coaches.
I like having Chad as a coach. There needs to be someone with high expectations and demands.

Hard pass on Hardwick.

We have our man, #starthecarr already.

Though no word about Jaymie Graham for a while.

Graham is on the Richmond list along with Yze

I don't think Hardwick is cooked but getting him would absolutely result in Carr walking, and I'm more leaning to Carr as preferred candidate.

At the start of the year i would've said Hardwick is my first choice but if the rumours are true about Carr calling the shots since round 3, and if Hardwick is quitting because he is burnt out, Josh Carr is becoming more and more attractive every week we keep winning.

we probably need to get an understanding of how much of the reins carr has taken.

only those in the inner sanctum would really know.

I like what Hardwick has to offer, hes tough and uncompromising yet seems to have built a real relationship with his players.

But, ill always query whether his ultimate success built on the back of dusty's brilliance.

either way its gunna be a massive call from the club, assuming they don't shit the bed again and sign Hinckley

Cant see hardwick coming to power. All we can confidently say is that there has been a geography change of the coaches, which is getting good results. Hinkley now doing voss boundary job and better. Must be a release for him to display his passion rather than hold hand over mouth. How this transpired? but would think a major discussion and acceptance of the change. Hardwick said that richmond backed their people in, a good bench mark of culture of a club imo.

There is a lot of supposition on this thread (bordering on delusional (desperation?)) about what is happening within our coaching panel.

Only the club knows what is going on.

I don’t want Dew anywhere near us and Dew is not leaving the eastern seaboard. Dew would not get the Richmond job. Hardwick going would have complicated our plans, but so be it.

Hardwick has 2 years on his contract?

Is this an issue if he wants to coach next year?
If Hardwick is leaving as opposed to him being sacked, no it isn't. Richmond won't be on the hook for his remaining contract, it is probably just being dissolved.

Very, very true - and I hope they do their job diligently, and make a decision based purely on what is required for sustained on field success, not rushing it to keep media happy, and not making a decision just to quieten some supporters.

Every coach interviewed (ie Hardwick today) says the coaching is a joint effort, so they better be considering that.

Whichever way the club goes, they need to make sure we have a total mix in the box and at ground level that compliments each others strengths & weaknesses. I honestly dont know that there is a coach out there that ticks all the boxes on their own - I was listening to some talk on Craig McCrae last night and that his real stength is people and relationships and he relies on others in the box for tacticaly input.

The talk last year was Pyke joining the Sydney box was a reason for their climb (not sure after this year) as he brought a fresh tactical look to the side to compliment the usual dour Longmire style.
The talk prior to last year at times on Schofield was he was the architect behind all our success, he got a big role at West Coast and I dont recvall a lot being spoken about him transforming them in '22.
Leppitsch was an unmitigated disaster at Brisbane .. but a year or two in assitant roles and hes being talked up again. .. perhaps given his role as "Head of Strategy" he is a strong strategist but not as strong on communication & the people skills.
Goodwin wasnt exactly setting the world on fire at Melbourne until they brought in a host of support to address his shortcomings.

It can be a massive issue - Richmond are well within their rights to ask he not take a coaching role for that period ... whether they would is another thing. IF Richmond had sacked him he could do what he wants.
