I saw a snippet of the 89 gf Apperently that was the greatest gf ever , and it got me thinking what other club has gone out there with the intention of taking a bloke out? Scats in 89 , the good bloke Stewart taking out Prestia , the media whore Dangerfield taking out Vlastuin, gee the scats feature in a lot of them
For cats they act like dogs.

Just realised no team in the 127 year history of the competition has played in 2 or more Grand Finals within a 4 or even 5 year period and come away with a better percentage than Richmond 2017-20 222% dominance of 3 Grand Finals.

Best to remind any Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong or Hawthorn supporting friends in particular of this nice little factoid. :)
But but we have the home ground vantage at the G

just like Taylor Dane, 89 GF 's always been over rated imo,as much as i hate the bummers the '84GF was a better game & '85 bummers side sits 3rd behind our '74 , '80 sides as the strongest and toughest teams ive seen.2017 & '20 GF's better games
to watch as a nuetral than '89
The thing with the '89 GF was the result was never in doubt. As close as Geelong got, they never looked like getting up. Even when they scored the final goal, the flipping countdown clock was at 7 seconds - killed all suspense. Otherwise it was an exciting game.

The '84 GF was an amazing game. What a way to win a flag. To be haunted by a team for a number of years, to be headed for another heart breaking loss in the GF, and then to win like that. I was there with a close Essendon mate of mine who was beyond distraught at 3/4 time, then to experience unbridled joy. I was envious at the time. The 1984 Final Story (can be found under AFL On Demand on the AFL website) is an excellent watch.

It's difficult to compare separate years. Our 1974 team was tough, but imho, I reckon the Essendon team of 1985 was the toughest. Sheedy assembled a group of "hitmen" to clear the path for his class players. Things he learnt at Richmond. F I used to hate those campaigners, but l always wanted my team to be like that.

Nice little kidney punch from his former AFL House colleagues. No one putting their name to it, though.

so he ploughed some gold digging bird at afl house

I'd argue what shocking did while he was at the afl was far far worse. changed the rules to stop our dynasty and tailored a game that would suit the old campaigners at geelol to win a flag then ran back to be their ceo the next year

how did he get away with it

Reckon they got away with stuff in the late 2000s, as well

Cuzzy Maynard in a car accident, swerving all over the road.
Cant be his fault though, he is a good guy.
The old "he's a good guy/good bloke" ploy.

That's the second time they've used that in 4 months.

Watch Ch 9 sweep it under the carpet, all there sports reporters barrack for Collingwood lol.
There’ll be a story out today about him helping an old lady with her shopping bags or volunteering at a soup kitchen

sheedy created the druggies / carltoon rivalry , before 1999 it didnt exist

the campaigner hated cartloon because he was a Richmond player

always find it funny when the afl say druggies/ carltoon is a traditional rivalry when before 1999 nobody had ever heard of it

the biggest rivalries in this sport is Coll carl and Richmond vs eachother and it will always be that way

druggies are a 4th wheel. they never had big support before the 90s flags

only people who lived in essendon followed them

Yeah, I remember as a kid it was more Essendon / Hawks.

Collingwood / Carlton /Richmond was the other one.

ess/hawks started in the 80s though. its pretty irrelevant like scats/hawks

us vs coll and carl is over 100 years old

also ess/coll anzac day is a manufactured rivalry that didnt exist before 1995

Thomas managing to finish sixth in the North Melbourne B&F when he only played 12 games for the year is a horrific indictment on that club
lindsay thomas still plays ?

I went to school in the south eastern suburbs in the 70s. By far the the 2 most supported teams were Richmond and Collingwood, then a gap til Carlton. Can't remember one kid supporting Essendon when I was at school.

Yep, bombers and carlton made up ground during our 30 year hiatus from relevance but once we were back and meant business we showed we were on another level. Pies in all fairness raised the bar last season with their attendances

I don't recall on what platform, but I recall hearing the late great Ron Barassi speak about rivalries.

He would know being part of the Melbourne teams during their rivalry with Collingwood, at Carlton during their rivalries with both Richmond and Collingwood, and at North during their rivalry with Hawthorn.

According to him, the biggest and fiercest rivalry was between Richmond and Carlton. He said both teams genuinely hated each other.
