I am not sure if this is a North Melbourne thing or an AFL wide issue. But yesterday my North Melbourne membership auto-renewed despite my not having approved this. In February 2023 I rang the Club Membership Department and informed them that I did not wish to have my membership auto-renewed. They told me that I wouldn't yet in October last year (2023) a message popped up on my phone informing me that my seasonal membership had auto-renewed. I was ticked off about it at the time but thought "Oh well I'll let it slide for this year" in the knowledge that my credit card was due to expire in 2024 before the 2024 memberships were due to renew. I knew that the new credit card would have a different expiry date and CVN. Too easy.

However, yesterday a message pops up on my phone "Kangas FC Membership auto-renew $XXX". I had not updated any of my current credit card information to either the North Melbourne FC or to Ticketmaster. How could this be?

I rang my bank and spoke to the Credit Card management section and explained that "My football club membership...", she cut me off and said, let me guess "Kangaroos FC". She then said you are the fourth person who I have dealt with today about this. I asked her how Ticketmaster got my updated expiry date and CVN? She responded that the credit card company sells that information to businesses like Ticketmaster. I was floored and angry. I asked if this was in any way legal? I thought that even if it was legal it's completely unethical. I immediately asked to have the Credit Card account closed outright and for a new card with completely different numbers issued forthwith.

I then rang the Club Membership Department and cancelled my membership immediately telling them that they too hadn't just crossed a line, that they had well and truly pole vaulted over it and never to expect my support or financial contributions ever again.

Is this behaviour just a North Melbourne/Ticketmaster thing or is this also typical conduct at the Bulldogs and other AFL clubs?

Had similar a few weeks back. Got email. Called club… waited 45mins (usually takes 5-10mins to get through). Got booted off. Tried again. Same. 45min. Booted. Hated club song after that! Went back to email and decided to email club. Took almost a working week to answer - meanwhile, auto update day was looming. Emailed again - told them to cancel everything - so in writing. They got back to me after a few days, and followed through…. Ok, good - but not acceptable. In all honesty, I will probably renew… but, if it were any other club/membership, I’d be done. Not good enough.

I’ve been a social club member 10 years. Member 20 (no badge this year… we did for 15). They built all new facilities - apparently forgot to make any space for these members at WO. Players and admin meanwhile get the Emperor’s penthouse during VFL, whilst we stand in hail. Donated my 21’ GF ticket (for obvious reasons). Fine. Good - happy where it went. But, across 20 and 21’ we got jack all from the club (apart from awesome on field 21’) as social club. These clubs are taking the bread and butter for granted again… guys, wake up… your product isn’t actually that good.

Probably hasn't answered it well but Balta is a good kid. Rumour has it that some bogan river rat (after too many beers on his ski boat) tried his luck after pestering Balta all night and copped one for his troubles.

So yours auto renewed without giving them the cvc? That sucks. I sent a submission in to the AGM about it, don't know if that came to anything.

The guy Balta was provoked into assaulting went to hospital with a laceration on his dumb f***** head when he could've just put some Vaseline on it, instead the fool goes to hospital to be seen ahead of all the sick kids waiting with their parents in the waiting room, so the guy is a double loser (I hope we get to see what this double loser looks like) and we got muppets here blaming Balta for putting himself in the position to be provoked.

True. Is that the same though as putting someone in hospital in a drunken stupor? Not knowing the details but can assume it’s the case for May on the back of past discretions.

We’ve had poor decision makers over recent years, but seem to have avoided the agro flog types.

As a whole, I think we’ve had a pretty well behaved group over the last 10 compared to other clubs.

Stringer, Hunter, Smith the only few I can think of. Libba the other, but seems to have been given chances assuming he’s a genuine good bloke.
